Div I-A OPENING DAY GAME THREAD
Can't believe this is not up yet, but it's almost halftime in the Oreg St - CSU game, CSU up 24-17. BYU is up on Port St 14-0 in the 2nd.
Screw ESPN, but TODAY is opening weekend of D 1-A football (and screw the FBS/FCS labels - only done to justify D 1-A not having a fully fledged playoff system).
Football is coming HERE!

Got jobbed. That was a catch for a TD.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:43 PM ^
That's getting all the calls these days...
August 26th, 2017 at 4:23 PM ^
Horrible call of incompletion for a game-tying touchdown at the end of the half against Oregon State. Video review appeared rather clear that it was a good catch but the officials let the ruling on the field stand. OSU gets a consolation field goal. CSU up 24-20 at the break.
August 26th, 2017 at 4:26 PM ^
Portland State hanging in there with BYU, only down 14-6 with the half almost done.
August 26th, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
Beautiful touchdown play by Port St - bad kicker
August 26th, 2017 at 4:30 PM ^
to say the least.

Portland State with a near fumble recovery at the BYU 30

Still not clear to me why we have this hybrid kinda opening day. I know why the game in Australia is happening. Are the rest of the teams playing teams that have a game scheduled in Hawaii or something?
August 26th, 2017 at 4:34 PM ^
Yes. It's the Hawaii rule.
August 26th, 2017 at 4:43 PM ^
A few of them play in Hawaii later in the season (CSU, SJSU, BYU), but the others no not. However, I'm surprised that SDSU, W Carolina and Fresno State did not take advantage of this also.
August 26th, 2017 at 4:49 PM ^
Major loss for OSU with starting DE carted off field less than a minute in the 2nd half. They had lost a NT earlier in the game as well, but I did not see it happen.
August 26th, 2017 at 4:55 PM ^
Now a loss for the CSU OL, with the starting RT going down and in serious pain. Walking off with two trainers helping him.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:01 PM ^
ORST had a chance to pick off a Tebow-style pass in the endzone by CSU, but the defender let is go through his hands (receiver was no where close). CSU gets a field goal, up 27-20.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:08 PM ^
Pick-6 by CSU at midfield as ORST was driving. 34-20 CSU with 5min left in 3rd.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:11 PM ^
Portland St keeping it close in Provo. Just stopped a 4th down attempt from BYU at midfield.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:15 PM ^
Rootin' for the 18-yr old kid qb over BYU.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:16 PM ^
Two drives in a row for Or. St. end in INT's the first a pick 6, the second a pass that floated long when Luton(Or. St. QB) got hit. Think CSU looks like good value for the upset.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:46 PM ^
CSU were 3.5 point favorites
August 26th, 2017 at 7:37 PM ^
Well I'll be damned..
August 26th, 2017 at 5:17 PM ^
Forecast: Pain.

I'm very glad there is college football on, but next weekend will be such a different level of happiness. ONE MORE WEEK. At this time next week, we will be watching around the end of the third quarter, hopefully with UM up two or more touchdowns.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:22 PM ^
Portland State defense is putting up a very good fight against BYU; better offense execution and they might take the lead. BYU might have a rough season this year.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:32 PM ^
I'm amazed that he doesn't look like a true freshman. I guess their offense is pretty basic but he doesn't look lost at all.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:35 PM ^
CSU field goal, 37-20.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:42 PM ^
ORST punter completely lit up by CSU after getting the ball away, but penalty not called since he was rugby style kicking. Interesting that is the call now but the exact same thing was called against UM when they played ORST 2 years ago. ORST recovers muffed punt and starts deep in CSU territory.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:42 PM ^
Touchdown ORST.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:42 PM ^
I don't understand why a muffed punt can't be advanced.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:43 PM ^
Yeah, that is a strange rule.
August 26th, 2017 at 5:55 PM ^
Is that the receiver, more often than not, will be practically by himself and the kicking team will have an extreme numbers advantage if it gets dropped. The thought must be that a likely turnover is enough of a punishment for dropping it. That's all I got.
August 26th, 2017 at 6:21 PM ^
Might have something to do with the fact that possession never changes when a punt is muffed (i.e., the punting team has possession both before and after the kick).
August 26th, 2017 at 5:50 PM ^
CSU answers w/ 1:29 75 yard drive for touchdown
August 26th, 2017 at 5:59 PM ^
They look no better when they played UM two years ago.

You're thinking of Alabama.

ORST collapsing. I wonder if Gary Anderson is second guessing his departure from Wisc.
August 26th, 2017 at 8:10 PM ^
You think Wisconsin is second guessing wanting him to stay?
August 26th, 2017 at 6:05 PM ^
Looking forward to seeing South Florida.
They were good last year - have easy schedule and may be in major bowl talk late season.
August 26th, 2017 at 6:13 PM ^
Well, Oregon State is already in midseason form with the that takeaway right there.
It's like the OC specifically practiced "when not to throw" this week, and it stuck because Jake Luton is really good at finding the wrong window to the wrong guy.
August 26th, 2017 at 6:17 PM ^
Hawaii went for it on 4th down deep in UMass territory, got sacked, but intercepted the ball a few plays later. Tied 0-0 less than 5 min into the 1st.
August 26th, 2017 at 6:27 PM ^
Hawaii up 7-0.
August 26th, 2017 at 6:46 PM ^

USF not looking too hot, but it's early for sure.
August 26th, 2017 at 8:04 PM ^
USF down 10-0 and they lost one of their better defensive players apparently to targeting as well.
August 26th, 2017 at 8:19 PM ^
This is getting interesting
August 26th, 2017 at 8:21 PM ^
Exciting play so far
August 26th, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
USF is looking rough, down 16 already. I'm really waiting for this explosive offense.
