Disgusting letter to Cass Tech Coach that popped up on the internets

Submitted by denardogasm on

Saw this circulating amongst some Metro Detroiters on Facebook.  I sincerely hope it didn't come from someone at CC.  Even though I went to a rival school I wouldn't expect this from them, unless of course there's an alum who is also an Ohio fan... Every group has their bad apples I suppose.  I hope RJS finds this idiot (but not really because it might risk his Michigan offer).

But the real question is.... are those statistics he listed, facts?  4.4% only ready for higher education, etc ?  If so, then YOU are the real loser, because a fact is a fact, no matter how inconvenient it is to you and your world of feeling sorry for people like at Cass Tech. If the author is using facts, then shouldn't that school be chastised and criticized ?  Oh no, wait, its because they are majority black, so they cannot be told that.

Doesn't the author of that stupid letter know how to justify paragraphs in a document? It isn't that hard. Also, why is there a space between a word and the question marks? Yeah, I'm grammar cop. Sorry.

The CC A.D. Wrote:

"The letter didnt even say anything about CC. The first guy to put it up said who ever wrote it "had love for CC and a hatred for the City of Detroit." Then it tuned into a fan of CC like i said. Stupid Facebook. I talked to the CT coach already and he feels terrible for putting up under false pretenses and took it down. Of course people ran with it, it's CC and instead of seeing the good we do with our kids they'd rather see us fail. Cass knows we have great respect for them and that we had nothing to do with it."

It's a shame that a letter like this even exists.

They were talking about it on The Ticket this morning, and I kept on texting them that before everyone sound the alarms, let's do some critical analysis first and maybe people would realize that it was probably some 14 year old punk with nothing better to do who wrote it.  I know it's talk radio, but I thought it was a low journalistic standard to talk about this, let alone for an hour.

As a student of New Orleans inner city schools I find this obsolutely uncalled for. Sure theres problems but kids can still acheive if they want. I went on to get an engineering degree from Michigan and my older brother graduated from Tulane. And theres plenty of cocaine and heroine addict high schoolers in the Detroit suburbs to go around.

Detroit politics are a joke. I really like to go to games and enjoy Greektown, but I fear the city will dissolve to almost nothing. This letter is a bunch of crap, but Detroit schools are failing obviously. The writer's time would be better spent to offer solutions, instead of slamming people in general. As long as people vote based on party or race blindly, well nothing will change there. Research your candidates and vote for the best plan. It doesn't matter what race or party. Vote for the best plan. A city mayor will not overturn a gun law or abortion law. My 2 cents.

... but there is a real person with that name that lives (or previously lived) in Canton, less than half an hour away from Catholic Central.  Whether it's coincidence, someone trying to frame him, or he really is just an asshole, I have no idea.

...for the sake of my school's reputation, I really hope this didn't come from the school.

And if it did, punishment should be swift & severe.  We were all taught from day 1, that CC was a recognized name, moreso than a lot of High Schools, and we were being trusted with a reputation that we needed to help maintain.

And, having worked with Cass Tech alums and having grown up in Detroit proper, this letter could not be more misinformed.

I graduated from Cass Tech.

I played football for CT. I ran track for Coach Wilcher and keep in touch with him to this day.

I also went to Michigan on an academic scholarship. Graduated from the school of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, and have my masters in the same field.

From my point of view, letters like this are unfortunate, misinformed and also make it even sweeter that we won the way we did!

On an annual basis, CT ACCEPTS students who qualify with grades from middle school AND who take a test to get in.

From the time freshmen enroll at CT to the time they graduate, 33% of the class is lost due to not keeping up with the academic standards at CT.

Is there a problem with DPS? Yes. And there are many issues with many public school systems in big cities around the USA.

Even though the letter pisses me off, I'd rather beat them with kindness, and let them know that I recently attended my high school reunion, and I'd put my graduation class' success and credentials against any other school in Michigan.

Go CT (State Champs from the DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOL)!

Go Blue!

The letter was probably written by some stupid old mad-at-the-world racist. Think Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino, but subtract 30 points of IQ and add 50 points of asshole.

When I read it, all I could think of was that the author displayed a lot of ...

big·ot·ry

noun, plural -ries.
1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.
2. the actions, beliefs, prejudices, etc., of a bigot.

1.
 narrow-mindedness, bias, discrimination.

Also a CC grad, and I would like to echo the sentiments that I truly hope this did not come from within the CC family, as it does not reflect the CC community as a whole. CT kicked our ass, and of the feeling I had at the end of it was one of excitement, excitement for the future arrival of T-Rich, RJS, and Godin
