Saw this circulating amongst some Metro Detroiters on Facebook. I sincerely hope it didn't come from someone at CC. Even though I went to a rival school I wouldn't expect this from them, unless of course there's an alum who is also an Ohio fan... Every group has their bad apples I suppose. I hope RJS finds this idiot (but not really because it might risk his Michigan offer).
Disgusting letter to Cass Tech Coach that popped up on the internets
Pretty clearly written by somebody from whatever school they played
That's the assumption everyone's making but since it doesn't say it anywhere on there you can't say for sure.
Random alum: 10/1
there is absolutely no way Dantonio would say anything negative about the Detroit Public School League.
The PSL is their bread and butter for recruiting. Dantonio has proven repeatedly that he will look the other way for the discretions of the players that have come from the PSL, presumably because of fear of alienating those players and, more importantly, their ex-coaches and teammates.
a sarcasm detector
Do you not see the subject line?
But if you knew it was a joke, why did you take the time to respond as though it was serious?
"I know it's a joke, but its highly unlikely that a rabbi, a priest and Ronald Reagan would all be trapped in the same lifeboat. After all, Ronald Reagan passed away many years ago, and the secret service would presumably have been protecting him."
I mistakenly assumed that our board members are quick witted enough to see my comment for it was...... a reaction to an opportunity to point out that Dantonio recruits heavily in the PSL and will do anything to protect that, including allowing players to start their next game after being released from prison.
I suppose I should have posted a picture of a cat LOL-ing at the OP instead of trying to expand on the comment. Would that have earned me an upvote from you?
Sigh . . . . isn't that an obnoxious way to start a post?
I was just making a joke, no need to be a prick. Sorry I didn't "upvote" you, I hope you'll forgive me.
There were other subject lines that I wanted to use that were quite a bit more obnoxious, but I showed restraint.
Let me get this strait. It's OK for you to "make a joke" at my expense but if I I take exception, I'm the "prick?"
I'm starting to think that you are lost and that you ended up on MGoBlog as opposed to this site:
Your version of that is actually pretty funny.
However, I find it funny that the author chooses to discuss education in a letter full of grammatical errors.
Pretty clear to me you like to jump to conclusions that have no actual support. By the way, CC has checked and no affiliated with school had that name. Sorry to confuse you with actual facts.
I don't think RJS or any Cass player should pay any mind to this assclown. Haters gonna hate and losers are gonna be bitter. RJS is already headed on the path to higher education. This person is a weaker individual than most based off of this ridiculous letter. The attention is what he craves and is exactly what he shouldn't receive.
and if the letter hits mainstream media, heads are going to roll.
There is only one person with that name in the state of Michigan. I wonder if he really wanted the attention that badly or if he hadn't heard of the Internet...
If it wasn't for subtle and not-so-subtle racial stereotypes disguised as what kind of school someone goes to, it would have been sorta funny. The problem, though, is that the guy was obviously serious.
I would hate to be him whenever what he is sending out comes back. I hope he gets what he truly deserves.
What makes this letter even more ignorant is that Cass Tech has consistently been a beacon for DPS, and a model for inner-city education around the country. Considering that Cass Tech is a feeder for Michigan in academics in addition to football, I take it that the author is a bitter loser himself.
The author has serious issues. However, that is a true statistic from 2010. Only 4.4% of Cass Tech's graduates are college ready in all 4 fields -- Reading, Writing, Math, and Science. The statistics come from ACT scores.
The 4.4% is awful, but the entire state of Michigan is only at a 16% rate for the same stat.
Your misrepresenting The DPS statistics for that of Cass Tech. Cass, King and Renaissance are schools that have programs that you have to test into . They consistently produce College ready students sending a good numbr to Michigan. In fact as an alum of King I know not only did I know more then the majority of the people I ended up in college with I can say the same about the vast majority of Cass grads I went to college with too.
clearly was not your strong suit.
No you are poor at math. Cass Tech does have the 4.4% #.
I am sorry but you are wrong. I am a teacher and look at these numbers as part of my job function.
Cass Tech has 4.4% of its students prepared for college according to the ACT. A student must meet minimal scores in Reading, Writing, Science, and Math to be qualified.
Once again though, the entire state stuggles with this. The state average is around 16%. The typical Detroit HS is less than 1% - so they do well for their area.
Is it possible that the state is using the wrong measuring stick for determining whether students are "college ready"? I mean, surely more than 16% of high school graduates will go on to graduate from college.
Oh I agree that it is a very strict measuring stick. You have to pass (albeit with not very high scores) in all 4 subjects.
This is not the issue. The other poster said the 4.4% number for Cass Tech was wrong and it was a Detroit-wide number. It is not. He is wrong when he corrected me. I provided links showing the stats are real.
Cass Tech 4.4%
I don't think we should give this wheels.
Judging by the grammar and punctuation errors, this is probably just a bitter student.
There are no horizontal creases. Who sends a letter without folding it?
You may be onto something. You're deductive reasoning skills are impressive. Sorry guys, late night studying may be messing with my nonsense filter on this one. Potentially not as big a deal as I originally thought in my sleep deprived state.
Or... it's a photocopy of the original letter.
....then that's unfortunate. Nearly all the CC people I've met in life are rather well-mannered and the sort of folks that I wouldn't imagine as using racism to express their displeasure at losing.
I mean, 49-13 is a pretty decisive win anyway, and CC is an astute enough HS football program that the errors of this game will certainly be addressed. They've been there before - several times - and it is sad that one guy can't act like it even in a loss.
I bet 10000 MGoPoints this is a scam letter written to get attention on the net, not an actual letter from an enraged opponent of Cass Tech.
I read this again, then it dawned on me in the middle of a second cup of coffee that taking a picture of a letter and then posting the picture is a pretty damn stupid way to in fact send a letter. It will cause a nice little furor all the same, I bet.
I believe a "scam letter written to get attention on the net" is also know as trolling... Just waiting for some unsuspecting users to get all excited about it. Don't feed the trolls!
Nothing to see here, move along...
99% percent of M fans probably had no idea about this, and making a post like this and drawing a lot of attention doesn't really help the cause.
The letter writer himself doesn't use proper punctuation (note the space before each of the question marks).
I had the exact opposite reaction to the Cass Tech win. What an overwhleming triumph, I thought, for Thomas Wilcher. I hope I am not the only one who remembers the Drew Sharp column in the Detroit Free Press from last August, in which he questioned the five-star status of Will Campbell, and pointedly suggested that the football coaching in the Detroit PSL was incompetent.
There really could not have been a more dramatic middle finger waved in Sharp's face, to have Campbell's former coach and team thump Sharp's own Catholic Central in the state finals.
I'd link to the Sharp column from August 18, 2011, but it is the Free Press, and it is Sharp. I'd hate to give either one any page-hits. It is also consigned to the Freep archives, they say, although I think you can find it with a Google search. (The Free Press' own search engine is, like the rest of the institution, practically unusable.)
What disgusting filth!
You just keep winning games and putting kids through college
I wish I had this guy's power of observation - he can look at a football team and tell you how they all do in the classroom! Very impressive.
Being around CC I can honestly say I believe somebody was trying to make them look bad. The CC AD tweeted last night that they had nothing to do with that letter. I feel bad though, nobody should write something like that. But for sure I believe it's just a PSL hater, rather than a CC Alum/Fan/Faculty/Anybody associated with CC.
Agreed. There are a lot of students in the Catholic League/ surrounding public schools that HATE Catholic Central. It's sort of a lot like UofM in that people think CC is a bunch of arrogant, rich kids with a strong history of beating up on everybody in sports. I wouldn't be surprised if some young, ignorant high schoolers drew this up out of boredom just to make CC look bad. Boredom in high school can make you do a lot of dumb things.
Your description seems to fit Brother Rice a little bit more. CC usually has a really strong football team and a pretty strong soccer team, but they don't really dominate the other sports, at least the big ones since I have no clue about tenis or golf. CC is also in Novi and gets a some random students from smaller parts of Michigan. Maybe being from a private school is distorting my impression about private schools being full of kids from richer families, but Brother Rice seems to fit your description more.
lol wut? What does BR do besides win lacrosse championships? CC has won a lot of state title in the last few years-hockey, football, wrestling, cross country, golf.
Brother Rice has 54 boys state championships since the school was founded in 1960, the most of any school in the state.
CC has 49 since the school was founded in 1928.
Rice has won a number of titles in football (including one just last wekeend), swimming, golf, tennis, skiing, baseball, and as you noted lacrosse in the last few years.
Rice has won a state championship in every varsity sport they compete in except Cross Country and Track. DreisbachTurnerOverdrive is also correct in the 54 state championships (might be 55 with the recent football one, but I am not positive).
