Discuss - Similarities between UofM Football & Basketball

This thread was made for one thing. Discussion. I mean, this IS a discussion board on a blog, correct? If you're like me and you like simply talking about Michigan athletics...this is one of the best places to do it...right?

So with that said...I just read a ESPN.com article on Stu Douglass and I couldn't help but think "Damn, what a great kid...what sacrifice. Here is a kid I will ALWAYS root for, and I thank so much for bringing Michigan out of the "dark times." He and his senior class will be missed." And instantly I thought of Mike Martin and Ryan Van Bergan and David Molk and Kevin Koger. Same thing.

So what similarities do you guys see in these senior classes? What are you going to take from each senior class and what will they be remembered for in YOUR mind?

Moving forward...Shane Morris and Mitch McGary. Which top blue-chip prospect do you see making the biggest impact? Shane likely has more years to do it...Mitch has less players to rely on and 1 player naturally means more in basketball than football. But do you think Morris' 3-4 years could surpass McGary's 1-2 years?

Obviously all of this is speculation and opinion...but what are your thoughts on this present senior class for each team? Are the comparable? What are your thoughts on the future stars of each program?

I'm really excited about the impact both these kids can have. Basketball has had a lot of "grinder" types in the post over the years, like graham brown, or we've had more finesse players, like lavell blanchard. We haven't had a post player since C-Webb that was a combination of the two.....

And Morris - as far as talent, skills, and being a "pro-style QB" reminds me of what Drew Henson was for a year, and what Mallet could have been.

I can't wait to see both these kids suiting up in the maize & blue.

opposite situations? The basketball seniors came to a not so good program and have brought that program back to glory and the football seniors came into a legendary program and suffered through a period of shittiness. I still support both classes fully and cheered for both of them the same, but I feel like what they've gone through is profoundly different.

Basketball has turned the corner while we're still waiting for football?

Football is infinitely more frustrating than basketball?

The ONLY one-up football has on basketball right now is Hoke's record in his first year will be much, much better than Beilein's.

I think what both senior classes will be remembered is tbd.  Football hasn't finished the season and bball hasn't even started.

I think for most people the football seniors will always have a special place because of everything they've gone through.  If they could finish strong (2-1 or 3-0) and get to a nice bowl that would be huge.

...I'm all for good fun, love the sarcasm this board brings. But I truthfully was looking for some good discussion.

Mods - Please feel free to delete this thread as it's not what was intended. Oh well.

...so how about Penn St.?

I mean, no offense, but what is there to discuss?  One is a basketball team and one is a football team.  There's the obvious similarities that you could find in 90% of teams.  Every team has embattled seniors that have sacrificed.  Every team, usually, has some young up and comers.  At a place like Michigan, there's always a top recruit in the future.  So, I really don't understand what there is to discuss.

They've both gotten facility upgrades recently.  So has soccer.

Both of these national programs fell lower than they may have every fallen before. Shame hit both programs and both have struggled to recover. It's been longer for MBB than Football, however, they both seem on the cusp of reaching where they once were. They both have a senior class that got here admist the bullshit they had nothing to do with and "stayed" to be champions in the eyes of many. Both teams have top 5-6 recruiting classes for 2013 for the first time since I don't know when.

Do I need to continue?

This is a lot we could discuss. If it's not something you're interested in...there are hundreds of threads on this board. I'm sure you can find something. Or even create something of your own.
