been waiting for this game for 7 years. BEAT THE MOUNTAINEERS!
August 15th, 2014 at 10:13 PM ^
Humiliate them
August 16th, 2014 at 2:08 AM ^
That makes one person who was waiting for this.
August 15th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
I can get shame at a lot of place for free though...
August 15th, 2014 at 1:45 PM ^
is that we march right down the field on the first drive and score a touchdown in 5 plays. That will put any thoughts of a potential upset to bed right away......
August 15th, 2014 at 3:43 PM ^
Sort of like how we drove down and scored on six plays in 2007? That turned out great!
August 15th, 2014 at 3:55 PM ^
pick up on sarcasm much, huh?
August 15th, 2014 at 4:04 PM ^
You don't frame jokes well, huh?
August 15th, 2014 at 9:00 PM ^
I thought it was very well played. You guys need to start using the sarcasm font, italics.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
$65 would also get you a pair of sweatpants, a beer, two lapdances, and some shame.
Choices...
August 15th, 2014 at 1:46 PM ^
Until we start seeing the Horror on Sportscenter and B1G continuously? This I'll say, when/if we get ahead of them, we may try and hang 70 on them...
August 15th, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
They could score 200, it wouldn't change a damn thing about 2007.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
This is the exact reason I won't be watching the game. This game should not have been scheduled.
Best case scenario: We bludgeon a baby seal that we should bludgeon while being subjected to highlights of a game in which we did not bludgeon the baby seal and the baby seal turned out to be a momma seal and bitch-slapped us.
Worst case scenario: We lose.
In my scenario where I don't watch the game, I get to not see Crable miss an assignment and watch a (hopefully) very entertaining highlight reel.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
I will watch, if only because I love watching football and can maybe exorcise some demons from the first game (and subsequent season) of my senior year. My wife is a nurse so she will be on hand to administer a life-saving intervention if I suddenly go into trauma-related shock from being subjected to replays. But at least if we win we can say, "We have a .500 record vs. App State! HOT HOT HOT!"
August 15th, 2014 at 6:06 PM ^
Who cares?
August 15th, 2014 at 8:43 PM ^
Right. You got it.
August 15th, 2014 at 1:46 PM ^
Conium maculatum ?
August 15th, 2014 at 1:58 PM ^
This is quite possible, although Socrates would like to point out that ingesting drinks based on this particular plant can lead to some unfortunate side effects. That being said, I actually focused in on the "Discounted Horror" part and thought that this might mean "mildly jarring" for some reason. I am sure that the athletic department has emergency contingencies in the unlikely event that history laps itself, of course.
August 15th, 2014 at 1:47 PM ^
Do you know something we don't?
OMG! ARE WE GOING TO LOSE??????
August 15th, 2014 at 1:50 PM ^
I bet I could show up to the game 15 minutes before kickoff and get all of that for <$65 (shirt being the most expensive).
August 15th, 2014 at 1:59 PM ^
The whole package would cost less at gametime.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:02 PM ^
for a Horror II, that means there needed to be a Horror I. What am I missing?
August 15th, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
Every time one of my Buckeye friends mention App St, I look at them confused. I don't recall hearing about them previously. Poor, confused Buckeyes.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:28 PM ^
Oh, yeah:
Plus, didn't the team who played in The Horror beat some other guy later that season? Transitive property, bitches!
August 15th, 2014 at 2:17 PM ^
I brought my wife (then girlfriend) to see the first App St. game and kept apologizing before the game that it was such a bad opponent for her first Big House experience. What happened was truly a Horror, but I managed to keep my cool. My wife says that I was visably upset, but she knew I was a keeper because I managed to be charming despite the results. That was the only good thing to come out of that game. I was thinking about bringing my three kids to this game, for thier first experience, but didn't want to jinx it.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:22 PM ^
you MUST be a good guy
August 15th, 2014 at 7:10 PM ^
Thank you for giving me a nugget of happiness out of that event. Congratulations and it shows that keeping one's compsure isn't just good manners.
We just have to accept the fact that nothing really positive will occur from playing Appalachian State again.
1. If we crush them convincingly it proves litte - that a huge school with a big pile of resources can crush a small school with lesser resources.
2. If we beat them but just barely - we'll just be fodder for all of the State trolls (both in state and down in Ohio) that the day of the Wolverines has past and we are facing another long period of mediocrity (see the years between Tom Harmon's last game and Bo's first game)
3. If we should lose - well, we'll hear cries and sobs of anguish and all of the anti UM football punditsand jackels will be out in force. It will be pure pain. All of the opponents of the current coaching and administrative regieme will be at their keyboards. We'll get a SI story and maybe even make the cover.
I saw the reference to the clubbing the baby seal and we just have to accept the fact that Appalachian State beating us in the Big House is one of the great upsets in college football (even though they were a several times a college division 1a champ). LIke the old joke about man biting the dog is a story, when the baby seal clubs the fur hunter, that will never be forgotten. We just have grit our teeth and bear up with the reruns and references.
Let's just get it over with. I hope the coaches and players take it seriously.

my wife, girlfriend at the time, and I had had an amazing night the evening before... we slept in, skipped the Horror. To this day this is the only time I've ever had game tickets and not went... I call it luck!
jdon
ps. My friend who I gave the pair of tickets that day still resents me.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:29 PM ^
I wouldn't go to this game if I lived in the locker room.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:39 PM ^
Hell no! Tell me how you really feel.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:30 PM ^
Wait, $65 is the DISCOUNTED price? I expected it to be lower than that. I know it includes a t-shirt and other fluff, but I just wish we could skip this game and move onto the next game, because I don't even want to hear or think about App. State EVER again in my lifetime.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:38 PM ^
I plan on buying 2 tickets for $40. I won't pay more than $20 a ticket.

I was weirdly not pissed off about the first Horror for some reason. During the game, at least. I think that my brain just couldn't process it.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
Pretty cheap for what you get. Shame usually costs more than that.
August 15th, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
100k streak. There may be some positives if attendance were to end up below capacity. I wouldn't want it to dip below 100,000 so we can keep that going, but perhaps enough to make it clearly under 109.901 and even make them think twice about even announcing that "we are part of the largest crowd watching a college football game in America today" (although they'd probably do it anyway and apologize later).
Would the perception of Michigan fans be better if we packed the house in support of Team 135 regardless of the opponent or backstory, or would it speak volumes that thousands of fans stayed home because they live and die with Michigan and they can't bear to re-live that moment again? That's one thought.
Another "sliver lining" would be to simply validate what a god-awful idea this was and perhaps create some level of course-correction in the AD when it comes to high-horse, stunt scheduling. This seemed to be DB's sole idea to "exorcise the demons," thinking that would make it an attractive matchup. Being a little embarrassed by having to announce a less-than-capacity crowd without breaking the 100k streak might be just the right medicine.
I know, I know ... a dozen "But you're assuming that Dave Brandon gives a shit about any of this" comments forthcoming.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^
(1) What sellout streak? Michigan doesn't have anything resembling a "sellout streak".
(2) Scheduling this game was not to exorcise demons, but because it had "a lot of interest" and that "networks were fighting over" televising the game:
http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2012/08/dave_brandon_says_tv_networks.html
So once again, we should congratulate ESPN2 for beating all of those other networks in a fight.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:25 PM ^
If you were at the Akron game last year, it's been done. Announced attendance was 107,120.
No discernable impact to the Brandon Way.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:00 PM ^
I'm actually considering going to this game for the simple reason that I do not want to watch anything from or even hear about the first game.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:42 PM ^
Here's me getting the gift:
Thanks, Dave-O.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
Wouldn't touch tickets to that game with a 39-and-a-half foot pole.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:15 PM ^
Would you consider this Appalachain State package a "Hot Hot Hot Deal?"
August 15th, 2014 at 3:16 PM ^
Go to the game, stay for the shame. Might as well put that on the tshirts.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
with my entire family to see the game. Looking forward to seeing team 135 play and coming back "home" to Ann Arbor, though I lived there for only 4 years.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:26 PM ^
$65 seems really high. I know they throw in some extra garbage but come on. What's face on that ticket?
August 15th, 2014 at 3:31 PM ^
Face is $75
August 15th, 2014 at 3:33 PM ^
If it wasn't our eternal tormentors, this would be an entirely whatever game. It's no wonder they're having trouble selling tickets
August 15th, 2014 at 3:41 PM ^
Let's still not lose to them, though.
