Disappointed in the crowd

Submitted by milla61 on

I'm not sure if anyone else has commented on it but I was very disappointed when a decent sized portion of the crowd booed when the scoreboard was going through past coaches and mentioned RichRod as the current coach.  It's been 3 years people get over it and support your coach.

michigan crowds can be tough to figure out.  the events leading up to game time (flyovers, brock hitting the banner) were emotional and the crowd got off to a great start that definitely helped boost us to 21-0.  after that, the game was never really in doubt and the crowd wasn't so strong.  it got chilly, but people filing out so early??  savor the win for a minute!  also i hate to say it but usually the student section pulls out the wave at the most inopportune time.  (today wasn't so bad.)

FWIW, i'm an alum and have been going to games for about 20 years.  to me michigan crowd reactions have often seemed detached from the action on the field.  maybe i just take the game too seriously...

You hit on my only real problems with the crowd yesterday.  After the initial spectacular noise level for Brock, and for the Team taking the field...the crowd sort of died.  When we were on Defense it was hushed compared to years past - and I'm talking about in the Student Section!  That to me is almost as unacceptable as the jackasses in the student section loudly booing the alums (albiet, the alums are pretty terrible when it comes to crowd participation) for not "completing the wave" when we are on offense going into the endzone...

Pretty fair recent analogy from the pros:

Like the Cowboys in 1991 and 1992, the machine just started jelling.  The old school fans who were used to the 30 years of the Landry way, who hated the regime change and going 1-15 in 1989, were the last ones to jump back on board.  When winning started and it became undeniable that it was all for the best, they did.

It takes time and booing the coach is part of that.

Now the Jimmie Johnson era is looked at as the good old days and 1989 was a building block year rather than an embarrassment.  So it will be with Rich when time passes and history judges him.

One thing I remember was you couldn't talk them into believing, they had to find their way there, and they did it silently when you aren't looking.

Is there any reason we can't get the stadium going in a full-throated roar:

"Rich Rod-ri-Guez . . ... Rich Rod-ri-guez . . ..."

I think it sort of has to start with the students.  But that's the message that has to be sent from that Stadium on a game day, with all the print media and a national tv audience watching.

I didn't hear my section make any noise the entire game!

We had a cowbell going and all they would do is turn around and look confused.

Oh, and the two kids in front of me got a really rude old man yelling down and front and then some random jargon.  Very disappointing, section 37 sucks except for me and like 8 others....

Row 94 and I loved my seat. Everyone around me seemed into the game. Some guy behind me was wearing a ring with M stuff on it and he said "just a fan ring i designed for when i go to games." Everyone stood up for 3rd downs and nobody yelled about standing. Everyone cheered their hearts out around me and nobody booed.
