NOT

One of our recently committed LB/DEs will be pasting him in the Rose Bowl.

Oh sorry, maybe USC won't be there for a few years?

We'll be fine...actually better than fine

that I'm going to commit to his old school and his old recruiting coordinator who just did exactly to his old recruits what Carroll did to me." There will never be any sense in trying to predict the behavior of individual adolescents.

Consider this an olive branch of sorts. I'm new here, and though my world won't spin on votes, I also take some pride in bringing something to the table.

So, be advised my sense of humor runs a bit dark. Maybe I like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia too much, or being an older brother developed nasty habits of knocking my bro to make me feel better, or maybe I was born with it... take your pick.

But FYI, I have all the concern in the world for a guy like SJ personally. So no disrespect was meant to him.

Stafon, if you are reading this, I am sorry.

(that part was a joke)

Peace?

I'm glad the TV guy didn't shy away from the NCAA violations thing. Kiffin seems to have sweet-talked Baxter pretty well. Shame we couldn't pry him away, he should be a stud.

Maybe I put too much weight on the weather, but while it's been shitty in every part of the country this last month (including my 35 degree national sales meeting in key west, lame) it's been beautiful in SoCal. This kid's from San Diego, and while he was visiting elsewhere and considering elsewhere, it was crappy at all of those places and beautiful where he lived. That's what sold me on LA. Not saying this is the only reason, but it could have played a part.

I sincerely hope this doesn't offend you, but here is my personal take on Cali and LA in particular. Again, this is just my biased opinion, but it seems to me like a place where the sun shines, true, but it shines down on a smog filled, crowded city full of crime and fake people. It always strikes me that people move to that city seeking happiness that they couldn't find in themselves where they were before. It seems like everybody that lives in LA was born somewhere else. They are all hoping to be rich and famous, have low self esteem and think that by moving to the wonderful land of LA their lives will be perfect. I know that I am generalizing, using stereotypes and heavy words like always and all, but I can't help but think it. I would tell these kids, "come to the midwest. You probably won't get to date a reality TV slut, but you will make some actual friends and just might meet a girl who you can bring home to meet your parents in an airplane with no fear that her implants will explode. Oh, and their is very little chance that you will be passed on the expressway by a stolen car, 20 police cruisers and a helicopter."

That's a cheap shot there. Obviously there are truths to stereotypes but c'mon, those were huge sweeping blanket statements that you used. When I lived on the East Coast the last few years and mentioned I was from Michigan everyone would assume that the entire state was just like Detroit and cities all over the state are ghetto, decrepit, and full of violence. Nothing I could say would make them think otherwise. It was frustrating to say the least.

Your post screams bitterness. Lighten up, the kid chose to stick with his dream school which just happens to be in LA.

It's true, parts of SoCal are very nice, and there is some great food. But even when I stayed there for three weeks with family (Huntington Beach), at their house, I still could never feel relaxed and at home. Ever. No matter where I went, the whole state felt to me like a vacation without the theme park.

Well, if your judging the whole state of California by Huntington Beach then yeah, it must not be that great of a place. That's like going to the Jersey Shore (without all the hairspray) for a vacation. It seems that a lot of people have this preconception that Southern California is just a paradise of beaches, great weather, and great women and when they get there they will achieve immediate state of nirvana.

But, those same people don't realize how many damn people are there! From the border on up through LA Southern California is filled with people every inch of the way. It is one sprawling big city. If you know that before visiting you won't be so disappointed.

But again, take a drive up PCH from LA to SF. Or go up to Yosemite and then Wine Country. The state offers quite a bit that most cannot.

that from the border on up through LA SC is filled with people every inch of the way. I spent 5 years living there (Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach) and while the freeways may always be filled there are not people every inch of the way.
While Huntington isn't an idea place, I find it hard to believe that the other poster could not relax. Then again I hated it my first month until I figured out the backroads so I could avoid the freeways. Just seeing a beach and ocean causes me to relax.

I really am sort of indifferent to Baxter. I don't fret too much over the recruits we lose because I am one of the people in the "I want the guy who wants to be here" camp. The feelings I expressed were just a generic bias I have built against California over the years. I have a similar dislike for New York, although at least the people clammering on about how New York is the greatest at everything are from New York. There was a whole contigent of them at school when I was there. You could spot them by the lip liner and ribbed down coats for the girls, and the Knicks paraphanalia for the guys. I know that I am using stereotypes again, but I swear 9 out of 10 New Yorkers I met fit that description. To be fair, the previous is really a stereotype of New Yorkers who attend UofM, and not New Yorkers as a whole.

This thread is full of sour grapes.

OMG WHY WOULD HE WANT TO GO TO A SCHOOL THAT'S PRUDUCED A BUNCH OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND HEISMANS IN THE LAST DECADE?!?!?! THEY *MIGHT* GET PUNISHED BY THE NCAA!!! HE COULD HAVE CHOSEN A TEAM THAT'S GONE 8-16 OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS!!!

I get why he's going to USC.

What I don't like is that Michigan has a new coach, and there is a flap created about practice time and it is considered a black eye to the program overnight. We're talkin' bout prahk-tice.

There have been reports of major issues with USC, Bush, OJ Mayo, and recently McKnight of much more troubling sorts, but the prevailing sentiment in much of the media seems to be, "Well, but it's still USC,so it's not that big a deal. Wink, wink."

Fortunately the NCAA doesn't seem so taken in by the sunshine and girls, and they will likely catch up them eventually.
