So, per MLive, per ESPN, in a mock draft the Red Wings would take DiGiuseppe.

Yes, please.

Given the farm system, I'm inclined to believe that the wings will be taking a defenseman in the first round. They already have pleanty of talented forwards, even if Smith and Kindl both look like they'll be extremely good on the blue line.

The Wings management are firm believers in best-player-available. They're pretty well stocked at every position but goaltender, and drafting a goaltender in the first round is usually a mistake anyway.
That being said, I know the Wings scouts have seen DiGuiseppe play a few times, so you know he's gotta be on their list.

That would be cool. The red wings never draft anyone from UM.

Wings typically avoid college players. But this could be your GMC Never Say Never moment.

He also has the New Jersey Devils taking Trouba. If so, seems like their management looks for similar characteristics in recruits that we do. They drafted Burlon, Merrill and Wohlberg in recent years.
Only other team that has drafted multiple current players is Montreal which took Pateryn and Bennett.

And they stole Max Pacioretty

He is lighting it up for my fantasy team, and making me look like a genuis for picking him up off the FA pile in the process.

That would be the ultimate win-win. He gets drafted in a good place with a successful program and UM doesn't lose him right away because the Wings believe in letting players develop in college hockey/junior/elite leagues for awhile before they get their shot.

....that Kenny Holland and Jimmy D will trade that pick for four more picks in the 2nd to 6th rounds, using them to pick up a fresh supply of obscure russian and swede magicians...

I believe that ESPN also had him as the first college player to come off the board...
