well that's just, like, your opinion, man
Dienhart tweets from practice
It won't take people long to see that Taco was a 5* talent and we got a great one.
Good news about Darboh for sure.
Isn't it more the case that he had 5* athleticism?? His knock was that he was raw and needed further coaching. He's getting it, but he can make an impact immediately with his athleticism.
When I cannot upvote a picture of a taco.
but I definitely like seeing that. Taco hype is now off the charts.
the question is, what is Fred Jackson's evaluation?
Like Jadeveon Clowney, only he actually beats Lewan sometimes.
Spicier than a Jabrill Pepper, for sure.
Like Lawrence Taylor but faster and without the strippers and coke.
No, the preferred FJ bit is to say "X is like Y but fast", not "faster". The former implies that Y is good but not actually fast. Which only adds to the hype for X.
Like Lawrence Taylor but faster and with more strippers and coke.
There hasn't been much doubt about how athletic he is. With the great coaching he will get we might see that upside we heard about.
I am starting to get giddy about the potential this year...
Second? How old are you, 14?
What are you, 16?
To be fair, it could be dark beer. I think that makes you more drunk than the light beers.
But I find after the second I am happy and prone to optimism
even start his junior year of high school.
and long for pass rush until he gets more size. pass rush isn't hard to figure as king as he can pick up screens his way.
How much more size does he need ?? Jadaveon Clowney is 4 pounds heavier
He tweeted a picture of Derrick Green and every bit of that 240 looks like good weight.
Didn't I read somewhere Green was out for 2 weeks?
In his press conference, Hoke said Green's boo boo will keep him out until Saturday (which is today)
I thiink the 2 week estimate was probably off, but he is not practicing in live scrimmage yet.
#Michigan true freshman Derrick Green has a body like Ironhead Heyward. He just conditioned today.
Fitz Toussaint showed no effects from his injury. Great burst through the line. Green was dressed, but didn't take reps - so no read on him
Derrick Green looks every bit like the bowling-ball, wrecking-ball, 240 pound grown man that we all heard he is. Can't wait to see him and Smith trucking defenders very soon.
I was waiting for his tweets...seems like an annual rite of summer.
did fred Jackson ghost-write those tweets?
This morning and they were hard at it.
They must have had two practices today with the 2nd one without pads. I know the BTN guys were there this afternoon.
I drool of the day Taco is at WDE and Hand is at SDE.
With Taco's size, it might be the other way around.
Yeah, we'll probably end up eating Hands with our Tacos.
Even as early as before the Spring Game, Mattison was very up on Taco Charlton. Here's an article with some Mattison quotes regarding Taco from early in the year:
"Sometimes I look at him and I say, ‘You’re too big to play,’" Mattison said. "This is a young man that’s 6-6, 270 pounds. He’s getting some valuable reps. The good thing for Taco is he gets to see two guys that are veterans that kind of know how to play it, and he gets to see what’s right or wrong and so he can learn a little quicker.”
When people only post positive stuff, I take a huge grain of salt. Perhaps, that's you meant by that: we should take what he says with a grain of salt.
Still, I think that placing a bunch of positive spins on what we all know is just stupid. Anyone could say "the line is good [sans 5tech]", "Michigan has holes in WR/OL", etc. No offense, but these tweets reek of you being/working for Revsine. /Pessimist.
Nevertheless (since we can dispose of monosyllybic words here, no?) the d-line seems to be the 2nd biggest wildcard. O-line (interior) being the most-so.
I "lol" at people who think they know more about what's to transpire (and just WAIT until after two games against "who know's who they are"s) than the rest of us. If intelligent people knew about what would happen, Vegas odds would be more even no?
Compilation of some of the BTN Twitter observations:
good article on the team over there too:
but it's hard for me to trust anything Tom Dienhart writes.
BTN Camp Tour 2013
#Wolverines They got a whole bunch done 4 it 2 be the 2nd practice of day.Only in Uppers but still physical Impressive
BTN Camp Tour 2013
#Wolverines Once again got to watch one the the best D Line drills in college football.
BTN Camp Tour 2013
#Wolverines Assistant coaches do as good a job as anyone teaching technique. No music constantly playing helps staff teach
BTN Camp Tour 2013
#Wolverines Defensive team can really run. I would say the validity of recruiting rankings was alive and well in AA today
BTN Camp Tour 2013
#Wolverines Defensive scheme a Mich throwback. Not real big but they can really run and will move around after snap
BTN Camp Tour 2013
#Wolverines Just like their rival a dominant TB is a missing piece 2 puzzle. There're enough candidatesWill b interesting
What does this mean? "No music constantly playing helps staff teach" Do other camps play some jazz or R&B from the 80s during practice? Serious question - it is a boggling comment but maybe some teams play music to hype up their kids?
I think it's partially that, but a lot of coaches try to simulate stadium noise by playing loud music. Then everyone has to communicate loud enough to be heard in a big stadium.
THREE MORE WEEKS, THESE TWEETS ARE GETTING ME EXCITED!!!
Uggghh! Is it September yet?
I'd rather it be August 31.
Here's a shocker (IMO) from the wrap-up by Dienhart::
The secondary looks like the strongest area on the defense
According to Dienhart's article at btn.com
Line: Tom Strobel; Chris Wormley (who is a specimen); Quinton Washington; Frank Clark. Linebackers, Joe Bolden; James Ross; Secondary, Blake Countess; Thomas Gordon; Jarrod Wilson; Courtney Avery; Raymon Taylor.
Obvious ommision is Desmond Morgan, not sure if that is worth reading into or not.
Noticed that too. We must have been playing some 4-2-5 or something!?
His writing is suspect. It's sad that guy gets so much access on the BTN. So many better journalist options in the Midwest.
I would argue Dymonte, because that's a Nickel look.
Yeah, that's what I figured. Surprised to see Stroebel in there with the 1's.
that looks like a nickel package to me. Im guessing our base D is
Taylor Clark Black Q/Pips Heitzman Countess
Biggs Morgan Beyer/Gordon
Obviously Courtney Avery will be your Nickel, along with Thomas in the Dime.
Think Biggs has to be the best LB for the Dime set, Morgan for the Quarter.
Honestly, thing I hope for the most is that Josh Furman has a break out fall camp, and we can put him in some nickel packages to shore up the run
No thanks on Furman.
Also, word has been that Dymonte Thomas is probably your nickel and Avery is working on the outside.
Wouldn't Nickel be the best spot for Furman's skillset? Wouldn't have the safety responsibilities he's struggled with and he's a pretty good athlete.
I don't think he could handle the nickel. I think he would fit best at SAM if he could add weight.
As of the last we heard, Dymonte is the nickel. Countess is also apparently getting some run there, which I find very interesting.
I though Strobel really stuck out in the Spring game (I even posted that). Kid was physical. Not surprised to see him getting reps.
Greg Mattison is really pleased with his defensive depth. Said there are several positions where he feels good going three deep.— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 10, 2013

from a standpoint of toughness. . .
Exciting stuff for sure, I wish I had a job that did not require weekend work
Eh, Tom Wendell appears to be about 14, so he's probably not representative of the whole fanbase.
profile picture is two people drinking beer in a stadium so i am going with he is older than 14 and by that I mean he is old enough to know that his tweets will be take seriously and will be destroyed by the people he is talking shit on
Good call. He has a lot of M fans talking shit to him, but in a mature way (for the most part). The most fucked up thing is when one M fan said something like "I bet you were wearing a Free Sandusky shirt" he responded with "I hope Sandusky gets his hands on those kids in your a avatar." He deserves everything he gets.
Man, some of his other tweets are wild. That kid has issues.
is the undercurrent attitude that belies them, which to me is the more important aspect of them. And that is the overall view that this team is deep and committed to competition. Of course, these guys need greater work and preparation to be game ready.
But based on what I am hearing and seeing already, I'm thinking this team is going to build on itself as the season goes, and really grow which is how you build confidence and secure a championship season.
Here's the Dienhart piece from 2012:
It hypes up Bellomy and Rawls, and it also says good things about Barnum.
Let's be honest...the guys who work for the BTN and the network itself have an obvious interest in promoting the Big Ten as a product and keeping their fans/viewers/readers happy. So take everything he says with a grain of salt.
Yep that's not good - probably 3 of the most disappointing players on the team last year relative to hype/expectations. I take all this with grains of salt. THey are not going to be tweeting "disappointed in XXX" "just no progress with YYY" "ABC does not look Big 10 caliber". And if they are saying Shane is struggling he must REALLY be struggling. (no surprise - he is a freshman who had noted issues with accuracy and looking off his first read going into a much more complex system)
I very much assume that's because Ole Miss
bought landed Robert Nkemdiche, which is fair, but I'll be the one lol'ing when everyone runs away from Nkemdiche through the other 10 pieces of Ole Miss' porous defense
Yep Ol Miss and Chris are yuk'ing it up. But as the post below UM has the DC and talent around to be elite where Ol Miss....well....LOL. Also is there some rule where all the Kiffens save the dad are Slimeballs?
Taco looked like he had the makings of a monster in him during the spring game. Glad he got on campus early. He's raw, but he's got a ton of potential, and if there's anyone that can unlock all of it, its Greg MF Mattison.
