Maybe I just missed it, but I did not see Odoms on the field much at all in the game. Has Grady passed him on the depth chart? Sorry if this has been covered...
I'VE HAD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH OF YOU SONNY
I don't recall Odoms doing much of anything today, whereas Kelvin had a couple nice plays. The UFR will help I'm sure.
imo RR didn't show much of the playbook at all today and odoms was didn't see much action his way b/c of that.
there will some complaints abouth the second half but i think there was a lot being saved for next week. how may snaps did tate take? bet it almost doubles against nd.
It appeared so as the game went on, but we don't know if Odoms got knicked or something. Plus, the whole offense was not exactly fluid today. We scored a bunch of points in the first half, but it felt to me that was mostly a result of pure talent, energy, and focus. With all the QB and RB subsitutions, we didn't really get a clear pattern of an established passing game, or running game for that matter. So it's hard to draw conclusions from just today's game. I expect the offense to form a more defined identity in the next 3-4 games.
at least one catch today
Lil Grady looked legit - but I'm not sure one game against a "mac snacky-cake" will get you ahead of last year's leading receiver on the depth chart.
I didn't see Stonum out there much, either.
I agree that RR didn't show much of the playbook. I was thrilled with the win, but the second half was about as vanilla as it gets.
Hemingway was the only one who had a big day. Odoms had 1 catch for 6 yards, Grady had a few catches.
If we talk Tight Ends, Koger was a beast.
That catch was beyond beastly.
you mean this one?
Put a basketball hoop in front of him and that is totally a Michael Jordan pose. Amazing catch, brought back visions of that Woodson int.
Instant Desktop background right there. I shot up in my seat when he made that catch and woke up my dad who was sleeping right next to me.
That catch deserves a "10" for style points.
instant desktop. nice game, spectacular catch!!
I sit on the 20 yard line in the student section, this happened right in front of us.
The collective "OOOOOOOOOHHHH" (y'know, the type that usually follows a nasty dunk or something) that rose up around me was awesome!
Both slots are listed as 5'9, but I keep thinking Grady looks significantly taller. Odoms looks real small out there. Maybe it's just me.
Kelvin seems to have a 1st gear, Odoms seems to have a shift & miss first gear.
He threw a vicious block on Denards run in touchdown i believe
he throw a key block
My first reaction to that play was "HOLY SHIT WHAT A BLOCK!" It was at that point, when the slot WR (I didn't know who it was at first, just that he was tiny) came sprinting across the field to lay the wood on a key block. Hell. Freaking. Yes!
He was on his way over because it was supposed to be either a reverse or a fake ... no matter what though that play was amazing.
he gets tossed by the guy he blocks, gets to his feet immediately, and almost catches up to throw a final block that Shoelace didn't need anyway. I'm glad Kelvin played well, but I'll take Odom's flying down-field blocks if for nothing more than the excitement I get seeing him streak down-screen rarin' to hit somebody.
stonum was out there and returned kicks too. i doubt kelvin grady passed odoms as the top slot just because he caught a few more balls. we didn't use the short passing game in the flat much, which is where odoms does most of his work. i think we'll see more of him next week.
i seem to remember odoms getting yelled at when he came off the field during the first half. anyone else see that?
grady did look decent on the slightly high pass from shoelace.
It seemed that we put a lot of the reserves in after half time. Shoot even The Coner got to play! So I'm not too concerned about out lack of production during the second half.
I think what it was odoms just isnt as playing as much as last year since we actually have depth, if you remember coach rod said in a presser that he played alot of downs last year because he had true slot backup. So to me the reason kelvin had a few more catches was just based on who got put into the game at that time and not depth chart related.
Kelvin seemed to get a lot more snaps than Martavious.
Can we go ahead and give Kelvin the "Walkon of the Year" award? One game and he has greatly impressed me. What a pickup we got; the slot position is looking pretty good now.
Odoms's catch immedately preceded a comment by one of the announcers saying, "That's the difference between this year's quarterback and last year's. Now they're getting accurate passes that they can catch on the run" or something to that effect.
Also, Rodriguez said that Denard Robinson went the wrong way on his TD run. It looked like he was going to go the right way before he dropped the ball. Then the ball hit the ground and he just picked it up and let his instincts take over.
Anyway, since he went to the right, that play apparently should have gone left. So Odoms was probably coming around for the fake. It was a sweet block. It's nice to see 5'8", 170 lb. kids willing to hit that hard.
