Yeah.......and?

My point is recruiting rankings don't determine what they will do. Anyone who takes the rankings as gospel truth needs to get a grip.

Jake Ryan was a 3 star in 2010 and Cullen Christian was a 4 star. Which one panned out? Recruiting classes are like the lottery. Anything can happen.

As demonstrated by the overall sample size v cherry picked failures. Come on, man. It's 2013; this debate is over.

Yes, be cautious in projecting HS kids, but if you're going to do it, rankings are a plausible place to start.

How do you define outrecruited?

'Out-recruiting' someone means getting the dudes that both teams want. Thus far, MIchigan has 7 commits with OSU offers. OSU has 4 commits with Michigan offers. \

In the present case, the Buckeyes made Da'Shawn Hand a priority. They made his top 10. They didn't make his top 5. Michigan made Da'Shawn Hand a priority. They're (reportedly) in his top 2. That's out-recruiting someone.

This argument comes up all the time, but you're absolutely, 100% wrong; recruiting rankings do matter. Everyone can come up with an anecdotal case about how ranking don't matter because of Mike Hart and Grady, but the fact is that they do. Is it a perfectly accurate science? No, but to say they mean nothing is idiotic

I saw someone did an average comparison between recruiting rankings and AP finish for the last 10 years and the results were pretty surprising.

OSU had the recruiting rank of #10 and the AP rank of #1.  Schools like Miami and FSU and Clemson had high recruiting rankings, but poor AP finishes.

Michigan used to be the flagship team for Nike in the Midwest. You would use to see there apparel displayed everywhere. When they took the adidas contract and Nike made Ohio one of their flagship teams. Also back then camps like this weren't as common. So, Michigan received more money with adidas, but in my opinion they receive less notoriety as they did with Nike.

that can obviously terrorize Qb's and upset backfields doesn't fit your program, then we should pretty much stomp them every year, given how much time our Qb's will have in the pocket.

The greatest indicator of the Ohio delusion on this one is the comments started by Jeremy Birmingham on that thread. He posts 3 or 4 times about how (according to his top-secret insider sources) it's just "not a fit" for Hand, from the school's POV and that is why they won't be recruiting him. No details given, just trust him...LOL

but that seems to at least show he can be unbiased some of the time. What I think happened here however, is OSU has seen the writing on the wall for a long time and his insider may be the one making the excuses (if he really has one).

What I mean is the insiders at OSU have known for a while that they were on the outside looking in with Hand and so yes, they probably stopped paying a lot of attention to a player they considered a  lost cause. So technically they may have indeed stopped (or at least slowed) recruiting him.The fact that Hand has left him out of his top 5 also makes it less than an ideal "fit" for OSU since he has no wish to attend the school.

So if we're being very technical, what this clown is saying may indeed have some truth in it, but it is also very disingenuous. Because if Hand had put OSU in his top 5 there would be no talk of him not being a "fit" for the school and they would be recruiting their tails off trying to get him in the fold.

This is just the latest in myriad examples of OSU trying to spin the story of each and every recruit that is able to see through the bogus recruiting pitch of Urban and company. As Jabrill would say "real recognize real" and Hand is real!

Get over it buckeyes. Not everyone wants to play for your school and your head coach, that's life.

I want to agree with you, but its not really like he's hurting in recruiting. He put together a top-five class last year and he still in the top 10 right now. What is going to happen is the universe is going to align again where Michigan and Ohio will continue to get some of the top rank classes year in and year out and have major battles on the field.

Oh I agree, I absolutely love that they're making every excuse why they can't get top rank players. I can't believe that any coach in the right mind would ever say a top 10 player wasn't the right fit for the program if it didn't have to do with any legal problems. I would love just to hear one of them say, "he just wasn't interested." It's not going to happen though.

This is a great sign for Michigan in my opinion. I hate Ohio as much as everyone on here but I have a hard time believing that Ohio didn't put on a show for the number 1 recruit. Therefore, makes me think he is going blue!!!! Hail.

Hand has stated that he was planning on taking other visits, so there is the possibility that we won't get a commitment from him, but I do like our chances.

""But my favorite coaching staff is Michigan," Hand said. "With Michigan, what you see if what you get. It's professional. With some, you feel like when you get to college it might change, but with Michigan, everyone says they're straight."

Other recruits have said similar things about the Michigan coaches, and I really do believe that recruits do appreciate this aspect of the culture at Michigan in particular. The staff really seems to be on-message and very forthright about their plans, and the honesty certainly has to be refreshing and attractive to potential commits as well as their families.  This sort of consistency really does help contribute to recruiting success, but it is also what has made it possible for commits to easily aid the effort as well.
