DG enters football banquet on crutches
Poor guy.
Devin Gardner at Michigan football banquet has big boot on left foot (he came to post-OSU presser w less substantial boot) and crutches

He has been a warrior this season. Here's hoping that he's exposed to many fewer hits in the bowl game and next season.

New one, hopefully just for this year: Devin Gardner Best Performance in an Unsupported Role Award. Honorable Mention to Fitz (Poor Damn) Toussaint.

I thought I read that. Anyway, I hope our champion improves quickly.

I assumed it was due to when he rolled his ankle against OSU.
December 10th, 2013 at 7:45 AM ^
I believe it is. A friend who is a student-trainer told me after the game that he had a badly sprained ankle and during the game they thought it may have been broken which is why a) they didn't want to go into overtime and b) they didn't roll him out on the 2-PT play.

three weeks down the road I think DG will be healed by then. If not, damn thats a serious injury and we have to worry. shane morris would be thrown into the fire in a nationally televised game that a lot of people will watch.

The game is at 10 pm on a Saturday.

....probably interesting in an autopsy sort of way, but I agree.

It has been said much here, but to hear this makes it bear repeating - I don't think there is any doubt that Gardner played his heart out for this team in sometimes very difficult circumstances. He gave his all this season, and hopefully, he's well enough to be a leader yet again in the bowl and takes that momentum into 2014.

DG this year reminded me of Novak when the basketball team was still struggling. I see him and think, "I wish they were winning, but I love this guy."

Why did we burn Shane's redshirt again?

I've really been wanting this scenario. I'd feel terrible for the kid if an entire potential year starting was wasted on a couple snaps in bad games.

Hopefully soon the RB's become the focal point and they can take some pressure off the QB and keep these kids from getting beat to shit before the end of the season.

This team is so so much worse if he bails and decides to transfer while Denard was still here. He put himself on the line through all the losses and fans complaining. Awesome guy

The thought of a true freshman pro style QB behind this year's OL and with this team's completely dysfunctional run game is scary.
December 9th, 2013 at 7:03 PM ^
Watching Gardner this year, I remember questioning several times whether I've seen a QB of elite athleticism w/ less lateral quickness.
Usually hate to make excuses for player's proformances, but this news has me wondering just how hurt he was & how long.
The extra practices would've been good for DG, but if he's not close to 100%, would like to see Shane in the bowl game. Being that we burned his redshirt against good logic, lets get him some real snaps under his belt.
December 9th, 2013 at 7:12 PM ^
Devin said, "Santa Hoke, all I want for Christmas is an O-line that will block for me."
He paused and added, "Having it all of next year would be nice too."
December 9th, 2013 at 7:46 PM ^
he sprained his ankle in the 4Q against ohio. Wouldn't surprise me to find out he actually re-injured it from a previous game. I thought his limp was pretty obvious.

December 9th, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
Well, assuming nothing's broken, I imagine he will be able to play. The game is in 19 days.
December 9th, 2013 at 8:04 PM ^
Someone needs to ask Hoke if it's a mild or a severe boo boo, then we can decide from there.

House or Cuddy on Gardners ankle-those of us in Kansas City crossing fingers.

But seriously, I love that moment. It shows how much RichRod loved his players. Maybe he wasn't the right coach, but at least he was a good man.

This.
Nice enough to take a picture & humor me when I was 14 telling him I'm going to be a 5 star TE in the 2014 recruiting class.

It's very common to immobilize an ankle for a period of a week or so to get a real head start on healing. I guarantee that his rehabbing it already and immobilizing it while he's out and about. He'll be fine and don't be surprised if he's full go by the time the bowl comes.
