DeWeaver visiting Sparty
December 6th, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
Can't fault him for that.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:21 PM ^
Are you going to fault him when he pulls his commit because the coach he thought he was playing for is gone and there is no replacement?
December 6th, 2014 at 1:23 PM ^
He is 2016. It's not like UM does not have time to change his mind if that should happen.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:14 PM ^
Also a pretty good chance that whomever we hire may choose to go a different direction for QB. Funny though that I recall seeing both this kid's name and game rudely mocked on the RCMB a while back.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
There's not much to say other than this.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:23 PM ^
No - but given the fact that he can't enroll for at least 13 months - he could have waited until January to see who are new coach was if he wanted...
December 6th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
Or he could take a free trip to another team that is highly successful right now ... He is just being smart. He wants to know what else is out there so he can make an educated decision when out new coach is announced. Doesn't mean he is gone for sure.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:50 PM ^
2016s can't take officials until September. The rest I agree with. He's getting to see bowl practices now.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:18 PM ^
is no longer the coach, so we no longer have the "if you take visits, you aren't committed" rule. Let him look around. All we can do is wait for a hire to be made, and let the young men make the decisions that are best for them.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
Dantonio has been known to threaten to pull an offer if a kid doesn't commit on the spot, especially if his status with another team is dubious (see Aaron Burbridge). In this case, DeWeaver may be wondering if the next coach at Michigan will still want him, and if MSU pulls that same tactic it may work in their favor.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:29 PM ^
Can you site on example of this. I don't care for mark as much as the next guy but don't pull crap out of your ass to make everyone feel better.

I think his "(see Aaron Burbridge)" was an example.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:10 PM ^
We are a finicky kind around here. After he committed we blamed the fact that his academics weren't up to snuff. Now Mark was going to pull his scholarship? Come on, he chose SPARTY over us and at this point I'm thinking he probably made a good choices considering where our offense is at.

Sam Webb hinted that this happened. He looks nothing like my ass so I don't know how you got that confused.
December 6th, 2014 at 6:10 PM ^
My bad duck. I'm almost positive when I orginally posted there wasn't a player named. My bad. That being said I don't think that was the case.

only the most selective schools can really pull that crap. Since Dantonio has been getting mostly 3 stars (and 2 stars), he has never been in that position--at least with high end players.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:18 PM ^
BS. Dantonio is the polar opposite of that. MSU fans routinely get angry because recruits who want to verbally commit are told to go home and discuss the decision with their parents and sleep on it. So you couldn't be more wrong.
You think he is going to pressure a 2016 kid that is already verbally committed to UM? Makes a lot of sense. You better hurry up and commit since they have 1 other commitment in the 2016 class and its filling up fast.
December 6th, 2014 at 5:58 PM ^
But I know you need to think this. In fact, some MSU fans fault Dantonio for not applying enough pressure. He doesn't demand on-the-spot commitments. He tells kids to go home, think it over, talk to their parents.
December 6th, 2014 at 5:28 PM ^
Wait, we aren't getting another coach for 13 months?
December 6th, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
His new nickname will be Messiah deSpartytroller, pretending just to get their hopes up, such a jokester.
But seriously, I hope he finds his right fit. Good for him.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
It's unfortunate to see kids we were excited to watch play for Michigan consider other schools, but if we get the right coach recruiting will take care of itself.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
Being a 2016 recruit, there is a chance he doesn't fit the new coaches system or the new staff doesn't honor the previous staffs offer. Getting the right coach is so much more important than recruiting at this juncture!
December 6th, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
I think that is the correct response.
December 6th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
It's obvious we care a lot more about the coaches than the recruiting. The new coach may not want him. He may not want the new coach. The thing is that Michigan will always recruit as well or better than MSU, Wisco, Iowa, etc. (except the bump Sparty got during RR - 2009). Chances are extremely good the new coaching staff (and the optimism they bring + Michigan's brand) will get him or someone as good as him. No sweat at all.

Don't bet on it. The notion we will always recruit well because we are Michigan is as dubious as thinking we will always win because we are Michigan. Nothing is guaranteed, and things can always get worse.
For whatever faults he had, Hoke spoiled us with his recruiting. His classes were all top ten in average stars, including this season's right up to his firing. We don't know who our coach will be, or if he can maintain anything like that.

really? They are soft. Guys like pipkins. Give me the grunt over the softie

December 6th, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
$5 for every time someone said that and be back a day to a month later

At this point it doesn't really matter. Only CC matters.

I highly doubt Harbaugh would want him anyway.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:09 PM ^
Harbaugh will have 5 star QB's lining up to play for him.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:19 PM ^
Who's this "Harbaugh" cat? Belichick is our guy. That dumbass on ESPN said so.
December 6th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
Payton is our guy

December 6th, 2014 at 2:12 PM ^
I must be Jay Cutler because I doooooooooooooon't carrrrre. Plenty of good players for our new Harbaugh- I mean coach- no, I mean Harbaugh to bring in when he's hired.

December 6th, 2014 at 2:13 PM ^
Guess he isn't committed to the University. It's ok, we will be ok.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:19 PM ^
As much as we rag on Cardale Jones for "I came to play football, not school", these kids are committing to a coach and staff primarily, not a particular undergraduate school.
I don't see how you can fault a kid for looking out for his own best interest when "the university" can't even tell him who will be the coach next year.
December 6th, 2014 at 5:31 PM ^
have the same set of reasons for committing to any school. I do think all kids would want to know who their coach is going to be...it's beyond reasonable.
December 6th, 2014 at 2:21 PM ^
If he wants to go to Sparty that's entirely his choice. But if we somehow manage to get Harbaugh, we'd be just fine without him. QBs all over the country would be lining up in droves to play for Harbaugh.

He grew up in Michigan fan his whole life Messiah is not going to East Lansing
December 6th, 2014 at 4:44 PM ^
If he was really a lifelong UM fan he wouldn't visit Sparty unless they were his only other option. Not knocking the kid for looking elsewhere, jussayin'

say the exact same thing, michigan fan his entire life?
December 6th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
Who cares. New coach will attract new recruits. Ones that may be better fits or have better talents than Messiah. And who knows, maybe Messiah sticks with UofM. We need a coach first.
