Devin Gardner Recruitment

Submitted by aaamichfan on
I was looking at recruits, and somehow made it over to buckeyeplanet.com. There is a huge thread related to the recruitment of Gardner, and I had no idea how badly they wanted him. For a long time, they believed he was an OSU lock. It seemed like they were ready to have a meltdown once he committed to UofM. Apparently this is a picture of him burning his OSU offer. I'll also post the thread, because the mood swings are hilarious. http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/2010-football-recruiting/607335-10-m…

This continues a dangerous trend of document destruction by those involved with the Michigan athletic department. One might recall Rich Rodriguez shredding every single piece of paper in West Virginia on his way out two years ago. So many trees have been destroyed by them it's just sickening. In other news Mark Dantonio is being considered for Sainthood by the Catholic church. I have to wonder why it took so long.

I kept reading but failed to relate after I read "somehow made it over to buckeyeplanet." Please explain how one "somehow" makes it over there because my computer avoids the Buckeyes like the plague.

My father-in-law went to Illinois and he likes to use this term all the time. Me: "Yeah, scUM. I get it, because you added an "sc" in front of UM. That's awesome. I've never heard that before." Despite this, he's a very intelligent guy. He just suffers from having to root for a team with little to no tradition that envies ours.

I grew up in Illinois, so I'm more than used to it. I am no longer shocked when I'm at some U of I bar and I hear "You went to Michigan? Booo, you suck" or something of a similar creative nature. Apparently, when your chief rivals are Northwestern and Mizzou (ha), you really try to go and make up rivalries to make yourself feel better.

"really impressed with him today, however he's a little behind Pryor in the passing department. He really needs to learn the basic stuff on how to throw. However, a big time playmaker at QB." I don't even think I'm behind Pryor in the passing department.

(This was after somebody posted the picture of DG burning the letter) "Looks like we dodged a bullet by not going after this kid. I'm not sure he'd ever be eligible considering he's not to keen on 'class.'" I don't think I need to explain why this is so funny.

Because he favored OSU, and they didn't recruit him hard, and by the time he blew up at camps, Michigan had already just about wrapped him up. It doesn't only happen to us.

Is the letter being burnt in that picture even an offer? It says "Buckeye Sports Camps" at the top, which I'd imagine is an invitation to a summer football camp and not a scholarship offer.

No, YOU calm down, brah. I think you missed the point of my post, which was to ask whether the picture was really of his offer being burned or was merely an invitation to a sports camp being burned. Your asking "does it matter" implies that a lot of the content on this board matters. (It doesn't.) Of course it doesn't matter whether it's an offer letter or a piece of junk mail. I was just throwing it out there as a point of discussion when you had to go and ruin the fun.
