Devin Gardner is my quarterback.

Submitted by LSA Superstar on

I have strong opinions about The Everything.  This thread isn't for that.

This thread is for Devin Gardner.

Because before we knew him, he was giving it his all.

He fought and clawed from the moment he arrived.

He was told to wait.  So he waited.

He was told to change.  So he changed.

So when he was called upon to be a leader...

He delivered with the best.

He always strove to be a victor...

Even when it broke him...

...and he had nothing left to give.

He always took time to help others...

...even when no one would help him.

If he's not your quarterback already - if you strayed, if you faltered, if you waivered, if you doubted - you can still change.  There is still time.  He needs us to support him now.

Devin Gardner is my quarterback.

I hope that he is yours too.

Talking shit about a kid who's given more and done more for this university than you ever will is pretty pathetic. Not to mention the fact that I'd be willing to bet that Gardner's a better QB than you've been at anything in your life.

"has"...I said he "is"... and the evidence is his meanie comment. and..I should have just said "butthead" so there was no confusion... I was going to give a longer explanation as to why I didn't like his comment, but I think that one works. I don't know that the OP said DG is going to win a Heisman, or a National Championship, or be the #1 pick in the draft... I think he is showing support. So, why exactly does someone have to piss on that?

He is our best qb, but only because Morris is really bad, Bellomy is reall really really bad and Speight is really young and maybe bad.

The proverbial "tall midget".

He is by far our best qb, but he has to run a lot to be effective. Denard lite.

Yes they are fine young men and DG is a tough, hard working sob.  Go to war with him. Let him marry your daughter.  Hell yeah.  But passing a football with pressure, not so much.

Three 4 to 5-star QBs and a 3-star all struggle with turnovers and consistency because they are 'bad' or because the one consistent thing (the coaching staff) is not putting them in a position to succeed?

Denard Robinson had a 150 QB rating as a raw true sophomore. 8.8 ypa 63% completion percentage under Rodriguez.  Went downhill the next two years under Hoke.

Gardner had a 162 QB rating as a RS soph. 9.7 ypa and 60% completion percentage.  Has gone downhill since.

Then look at the two guys Hoke brought in.Shane Morris looks no more prepared after a year plus than he did as a true freshman.Russell Bellomy, who the coaches deemed good enough to be a backup, could barely complete a pass to his own team.

You might reconsider the target of criticism from these players to the people coaching them.

But he is what he is correct?  Didn't say he was not a warrior or a great athlete (Denard Lite reference). Didn't say anything about his character, will to win, committment to M.  He probably should have transferred, but he didn't. HE IS JUST NOT A GOOD QB.  Debate it all you want. Every announcer we have had says the same thing.  Stares at receivers, not accurate, tucks too early, bad decisions, etc.

Is it because of poor coaching? Yes. Is it because of poor offensive line? Yes.  But it is.

He is our best QB.  We just don't have any really good ones. No idea how OSU and ND happened last year.

I do agree if they changed the offense to have him run A LOT more, he could be very effective. But if he gets hurt, we are fucked.

You, just like cobra and the other 8 people who upvoted him just don't like DG for whatever reason. Your opinions are entrenched and will not change regardless of what DG does. Just be real about it. All the things that you and "every annoucer we have had" described that DG does wrong, I seen Shane do on Saturday. He must be an awful qb also.

The guy said 98 is the best of the bad quarterbacks, so he obviously thinks Morris is bad, too. Personally, I don't think 98 is as bad as he shows. I can't understand how he can be the gem of the Manning camp and come back to Michigan and have to face the quarterback competition with Morris that Hoke manufactured, especially when everybody knows, based on the evidence from games, that he's clearly the best chance we have to win, even considering the turnovers and accuracy issues (especially when all the quarterbacks on the roster that have played have the same issues). If all the quarterbacks make the same mistakes, coaching has to be why they look so bad. It absolutely has to be. When 98 is on, he's on. When he's off, he should be running more. Why these coaches can't figure out how to get him rolling is beyond me. Somebody said it, and I agree--the young man should've gone to Arizona; but...I'm glad he stayed, and that speaks highly about his character, loyalty and integrity, because he's completely wrecked his prospects at being a next-level quarterback by standing by this clown show coaching regime that doesn't work to his strengths. He could've been shining in the desert today with a coach who knows what to do with him.

He is a good QB moron! He's not Marcus Mariota... But he's plenty good enough to make plays and win football games... You can only do so much with little time and no run game... See Tom Brady this Sunday.

Anyone who thinks you are a competent human being is a complete moron.  If you are near a mirror, please point at it directly and say to yourself, "this includes you".   It will help you with the primary cognitive dissonance problem that you are having.

I can't see how anyone would still want Morris. But hype will forever be hype.

Remember, Devin had hype at one time. Devin was supposed to play QB so Denard could play RB or WR...that's what everyone wanted whenever Denard struggled.

Now Morris to QB and Devin to WR.

This is the kind of stuff that has held Michigan back for so long. When given the option between bad and worse, we always take worse simply because it's not bad.

In the end, neither guy is the answer...Gardner is the better of the two and if we could spell him for 2-3 series to put Morris in to calm Gardner and/or give Morris a shot. That's what we should do.

But this staff doesn't think that way, one or the other to them as well.

Oh good you're still around for some reason.   Well aren't we all lucky that free speech allows you to have a completely idiotic opinion that you can express in an open forum.   This was exactly what the founding fathers were hoping would happen and here is has transpired.  Even the idiotic like Cobra14 have a voice.

I didnt mind Morris starting last week because devin just looked lost. I'd rather have started the senior and I'm sure Brady would have as well. I suspect that Brandon and change for sake of change as bad as we'd been both served as the reasons for that change. Now the whole world has seen that it wasn't simply devin Gardner (something anyone watching the games with a keen eye already knew) rather our o-line play and lack of creativity in offensive play calling were led to a timid, even scared devin gardner. I think Brady was sincere and hopefully right when he said that devin needed a break and opportunity to view from the sidelines. Lets all get behind devin gardnerbthid week, next week and thereafter. He does deserve it. As the OP rightfully points out. He won't hear any booing this week from his fans. Lets rally and be sure he doesn't next week either. He doesn't deserve that treatment and neither does this team.

I think Devin is a great person.  I think Devin is a poor QB.  I think Devin is our best option at QB.  I think we are going to have a long season.
