gives his heart to Michigan. I hope the line is solid enough this year that he can show more of what he can do. To his credit, he doesn't complain or pass blame. I get the feeling he knows things are going to be different this year so there is no reason to talk about it.

He really doesn't get the credit he deserves for hanging in there against OSU.

We've got a bunch of great kids at Michigan.  I saw Shane the other week hanging out with some patients at Mott Children's Hospital. I know many of the athletes visit the kids during the school year, but Shane was there after classes had ended. Very cool.

My girlfriend had MSW classes with DG, Cam Gordon, Q Wash, and a certain not to be named special teamer. She said the Inkster boys represented themselves very well and was particularly impressed with Cam and believes he is one to watch off the field.

to be a winner in life off the football field.  I will root as hard as anyone that he sees similar success on the field this coming season.  Can't think of anyone who deserves such success more than him!

I hope the team will play hard for him. Lewan seemed to not get any drive out of the team. Good to see and hear great things about our key senior.

If not in football at the next level, he will be successful at whatever other career (social work) he undertakes. It's as simple as that.

That said, as stated above, a lot of these athletes take part in these things. DG gets some spot lights on him because he's the starting QB at UM, but many others are doing a lot too. While this is another thing that takes up a lot of time for these athletes (they are highly encouraged, as they should be, to help at Mott, etc), it means so much to a lot of these kids who view these guys as larger than life figures.

I know there are a bunch of people that hate to see how much money is put into athletics at major univerisities (not really on this blog, but a lot of those people are out there), but all they're seeing is money is being spent on a game. But things like this are so much bigger than just a game. Gamedays bring alumni and fans together. They give common ground for people or all race, religion, and creed. They give hobbies and enjoyment away from the many stresses of every day life. They are the single, strongest and most well known advertisement for the university (I remember after Texas won the MNC that their applicants went up like 75% the following year). And in turn, the people that need the support, that view these athletes, not just at Michigan but at many other universities, get opportunities to interact with them and give them encouragement for being happy, to live better lives, etc, etc.

It's always great to see things like this, like A. Payne with that little girl, Shane at Mott, Woodson, Hutch, etc coming back and giving so much back every year, and all across the board. These things should be brought forward so much more than they are, until it's exhausting to hear about, because that's how much many of these athletes are giving to things outside of the their sports on gamedays.
