Devin Gardner and Taylor Lewan on Maxwell Award watchlist

None of our players are on the Bednarik Award watchlist. Hopefully next year we'll have a couple (Jake Ryan, Countess etc.)
Interesting that it says Te'o was the first ever to win both the Maxwell and the Bednarik. It seems like there should have been another guy to get both DPOY and POY...
Manning won POY in 1997
Guess Woodson will just have to settle with being the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman. Alas, that elusive Maxwell trophy...
I'm so tired of reading nothing but previews and watch list articles. I just want football already.
Well JMFR would have definitely been on the Bednarik watch list had he been healthy to start the year.
Oh well. All that matters to me is him getting healthy, and if he's ready, hopefully he'll be on the field wreaking havoc come October.
I'd like to see the Vegas odds on that. My guess: 77%.
Publication of a "watch list" is just PR flack to get people talking about the award, and has little to do with anything. For instance, as recently as 2010, a player who didn't make the preseason watch list won the award (Cam Newton).
There are 76 names on this year's list! Basically any remotely interesting player is on there. There are even 8 players from MAC teams on it, and they sure as hell won't have a chance to win the award. The goal is basically to include as many different teams as possible in the watch list, so that media covering those teams will start talking about how their players are on the Maxwell award watch list. And it looks like we fell for it.
