Devin Booker to announce Thursday

Submitted by UMfan21 on

Looks like Booker and Blackmon are announcing on the same day.  Let's hope one goes Blue.

The 247 Crystal Ball for Booker would predict Kentucky by a significant margin and the same goes for Blackmon interestingly. Hopefully, we do get one of them.

According to 247, Devin Booker's averages from last season  - 23.6 PPG, 3.1 assists, 8.5 rebounds. Not bad at all.

The fact that they both picked Thursday to announce concerns me.  Is it possible they both commit to Kentucky?  They are the same type of player, which would lead you to believe they are picking different schools, but why the same date unless it is planned or one is trying to beat the other to the punch.  If either of those scenarios are correct that does not bode well.

The other thing that concerns me is that I have not really heard a lot of buzz surrounding them and Michigan.  It seems like all of the buzz has been around Kentucky!

Yup, I have to agree. The fact that Devin decided to announce on Thursday shortly after Blackmon announces his date tells me that Blackmon picked Kentucky and Devin decided to end the process since his top choice is gone.

Unless we are Devin's top pick after Kentucky, this is not an ideal scenario for us.

We were thought to be leaders for Booker last year but the longer it drags on, the slimmer our chances.  Most experts thinks he'll go to Missouri which really came on strong at the end.

Blackmon is expected to go to Kentucky (his dad's alma mater) by most experts but we probably have a better chance of landing him than Booker.

Not getting my hopes up for either, but really hoping we get one or the other.

It seemed like Michigan would get one of the two before Missouri really entered the picture for Booker. At one point it looked like one would go to Kentucky and then the other would end up at Michigan. Now I'm not so sure.

My thought: one of them silently committed to Kentucky yesterday or today, and Calipari called the other and told him that there were no more spots for the slower-to-act guy.  This made the slower-to-act guy's decision easier, so he silently committed to someone other than Kentucky today and will also announce on Thursday.

can't see how a kid comes down to Kentucky and Michigan. One is an NBA farm club and one has a coach selling the college experience. They say in sales of this sort the heart dictates and somehow I see the shortest path to NBA dreams to be the deciding factor. I hope I'm wrong.

Booker has family from Michigan and Michigan has been recruiting him the longest. But it's been rumored Kentucky is what he was holding out for. Hard to blame him since UK has had more success except for last year.

Blackmon really likes Michigan but his dad played at UK so you can imagine the pressure there.

Just coincidence that both have UofM and UK

I don't hear much about the b-ball players reaching out to the recruits like you hear from the football side.  Is that because a b-ball team is smaller in size and competition for PT is a lot more intense?  Opinions?

FWIW, on today's recruiting roundup, Sam Webb expressed his opinion: "Blackmon or bust." He believes Booker will choose between Kentucky and Missouri, but he's still optimistic about Blackmon. Putting a percentage on who lands Blackmon, he went 45% Michigan, 35% Kentucky, and 20% Indiana. He also still believes it's unlikely that both choose Kentucky.

I think Booker, like Bluiett before, is not an option for Michigan...the tea leaves for both of those kids with this many dates and no progress...not good (less than 1% IMHO) . I actually think we have a 50/50 shot at James Blackmon Jr...but playing time with Stauskas, Irvin and LeVert factor in that decision.
