Detroit Sports Utter Depression-Not woe is me

So as I have sorted through probably the worst sports year collectively for Pro sports and UM, I am somewhat curious about wether this will be more of the norm for the forseeable future. The Lions are terrible as always, the Tigers seem destined for mediocrity at best this summer, and the Pistons and Redwings have also taken significant dips from their previous dominance.

With Salary Caps as a little source of hope, I wonder if our teams will ever achieve the consistent strength we once had. The Redwings and Pistons were selling out every game which allowed us to lure higher priced free agents to the team without fear of losing money. Now with the crippled economy and more empty seats, our beloved teams may now be forced to play money ball and hope to catch lightning in a bottle with younger players before they move on for big money contracts somewhere else.

I do not see the Tigers signing any more Miguel Cabrera types in the future and the Redwings can't stockpile Hall of Famers in the lineup like they did before the Cap. Also, witht he Lions having to pay huge money to another first round pick, we will have a large amount of the Cap used up on two players.

I don't know, I just miss the days when the Lions were the only bad team in the City. At least we know that the Wolverines can assume dominance once again with a little time.

The Wings have always done a good job of developing talent from within and when they have brought in big names many of those players have turned down more money to come play for the Wings organization.

They're down this season more because of how many injuries they've suffered than because they're lacking in talent due to financial crunch.

I also feel the injury bug is a big part of the Pistons woes, I'm just less adamant about it.

All that said, it hurts.

...the point about the Wings, but that being said, I believe the reason they were always the cream of the crop is because they could add a big name free agent or two to put them over the top. With the Pistons the injuries are huge, but you can't say that at full strength they would contend with any of the elite. I see our temas being good, just not AS good anymore.

Of the pro teams I think the Wings will continue to be the most successful, though their playoff runs may not be as deep. This year, I'm not sure what's going to happen - I need to see what they're like when everyone's healthy and back in the lineup. But generally speaking, I think they have a good coach and enough talent to get past the first round at least.

The Pistons are next*. Before the season I thought they could be a low playoff seed. With all the injuries and games lost, I don't know. Rip, Tay & Ben G are back and need to shake off the rust pretty quick - the Pistons need to put some wins together.

A lot of the Pistons' potential will depend on Joe D's ability to sign a major free agent this offseason. If he doesn't, then the Billups trade will not have paid off.

*I don't follow baseball, so I don't know if the Tigers go before or after the Pistons.

The Lions go last, being the Lions and still owned by William Clay Ford.

Michigan Resurgent?  Michigan Resurgent!

The beatings will continue until the uniforms improve!
