As of late my Red Wings have been scaring the crap out of me. Franzen is out of the lineup for four possibly five months. Bertuzzi is still the same pathetic excuse for a player like we was back when we had Legace. Datsyuk left the game last night with an upper body injury not to mention WTF we lost to the Avalanche at home? I know it's early but my optimism for a Stanley Cup return to the Finals this year is not high. For the first time in a long time as a Wings fan I don't see us favored for another Stanley Cup or Stanley Cup appearance. How the hell is Columbus doing better than us? Babcock better work some magic later on in the season and get rid of FUCKING BERTUZZI. Nobody want's that cheap shot throwing fuck. And Osgood might want to think about retiring here soon. We need younger players because this constant veteran style is slowly but surely losing it's power.
For Detroit Red Wing Fans: Do you fear the playoffs for 2009-2010?
"And Osgood might want to think about retiring here soon"
He was a brick wall in the playoffs. Lay off the guy.
He hasn't been solid. He needs a strong back up and Howard's not much better. Wings are all about the playoffs but Detroit's got some problems this year. I don't know why we brought Williams back either. Losing Hudler, Samuelsson and Hossa was not good.
For a second there I thought you were publicly posting my GPA
I'm not a Bertuzzi fan, but IMO he's not as bad as he was last time he was on the roster.
The Wings D has been bad at times, and turnovers don't help. They really need to lock down on D in order to have playoff success. Right now it doesn't look good, but it's still early in the season - lots of hockey to go.
I look forward to seeing which players are going to step up and score some goals.
And hopefully we'll stay healthy from now on.
Should of picked up Maholtra and dropped Williams. Yes I know he won with us in 2002 but the guy's not a great add on.
This isn't a fantasy league. You can't just add and retain anyone you want.
the penguins choked the first 3 months of their season last year, finished the last day of the year climbing into the 4th seed and we all know how that turned out.
Not happy with that series. Officiating was crap. A 6 on 5 for a minute? Un noticed? What the hell? slashes and cross checks from Crosby not to mention a fighting instigator that was never called on Malkin? Bull shit.
I know you're probably too full of sour grapes to have remembered, but the same situation happened in round one Wings vs BJackets going in the Wings favor.
Two chances to close it out and the Wings failed, don't complain about officiating when calls went in both directions that probably shouldn't have and the officiating was similar to the year before when the Wings won.
If the Wings are still around .500 in a month, then I'll be worried. It's still early.
That said, I'm still a little concerned. Leino, Helm, and some of the other young guys need to turn into Datsyuk/Zetterberg-level stars pretty soon to support the top two lines.
I understand the emotional dislike of Bertuzzi, but he's still big and relatively talented, and it's not like it's a big long-term deal we're committed to. If he works out, great, and if not, whatever. We don't have any more proven talent he's replacing.
Osgood: we need a replacement eventually, and hopefully Howard is the guy. If he fails, maybe Larsson...point is, I'm more concerned about goaltending post-Osgood than with Osgood. I think he'll be fine this year, especially in the playoffs. Maddeningly inconsistent, maybe, but still good enough for the team to win.
I could understand not winning the division, and maybe not even having home ice in the first round. But I can't believe a team with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Lidstrom and Osgood will miss the playoffs.
Miss the playoffs thats certain but the regular season is crucial. The Wings have had bad injuries in recent seasons like Datsyuk missing vital games last year in their playoff run. Franzen also was hurt including Hudler. Injuries seem to always haunt Detroit. Hopefully we can stay healthy because so far there's already guys down.
hockey season is decided in the first 8 games.
I just looked up the stats about our Wolverines Hockey team this year and we are a very young team! 3 seniors wow! Very young team this year.
Should have never let Mitera and Sauer graduate and Palushi leave early. Maybe make some trades with some bottom dwelling CCHA teams for prospects.
Miami's very young too. Notre Dame seems to have the most seniority.
Especially since more than half the teams in the league make the playoffs.
I take it I'm the only one. I have played 10 years after all.
10 years of NHL on the xbox doesn't count.
I played pee wee then bantam then high school then adult. I still do. You probably dont even know when a penalty shot should be given
I played hockey in high school so when I say the Red Wings are in trouble, I'm right and you're wrong, no matter what your level of hockey knowledge is.
EDIT: Since your political ideology agrees with President Obama's, you are a virgin.
Did I get the gist of it?
Here I was about to say, from reading the earlier replies, that it seemed like you were getting negged for no reason, but then you drop this on us. Not a good idea.
So I guess you're a fucking moron in the grand scheme of things.
You should write another short story about sportsmanship and not making fun of Ohio State fans while they're down because we have this awful history of embarrassing losses...or some such...
K. That's not what that thread was about.
I smell a meltdown
I'm not coming back I'm not taking shit from a bunch of people that sit around and hump their hands all day cause they know they can't get pussy from a girl if they tried. Fuck all of you grammar nazis fuck all of you commies and obama lovers fuck all of you who judge people and fuck everyone who doesn't know enough about someone to be judgemental on them take away all my fucking points burn in hell fuckers. GO Blue btw
I give it a 9 out of 10.
See the cashier to collect your money.
I've seen better. Try again in another month or so when you quit again.
i know this guy played hockey. 75% of people i met who played hockey competitive hockey past high school are complete fucking tools. so i wouldn't doubt this guy played.
I'd say only 10% of those playing competitive past high school are complete fucking tools, but that's probably because I'm playing competitive hockey with some pretty classy dudes.
like the "go blue btw" at the end.
Can't top this one, still number #1 in my book:
Would have been 10/10 if he worked a "fuck you" in there to the hippies, the gays, the Muzzlims, the Welsh, liberals (not just "Obama lovers"), soccer fans, etc. If you're going to issue general "fuck yous" in the midst of a meltdown, you gotta go all out.
fuck all of you who judge people and fuck everyone who doesn't know enough about someone to be judgemental on them
Which was immediately preceded by the following judgments about MGoBoard:
I'm not taking shit from a bunch of people that sit around and hump their hands all day cause they know they can't get pussy from a girl if they tried. Fuck all of you grammar nazis fuck all of you commies and obama lovers
I'm going to miss you.
P.S. It's "judgmental". The rest is pure gold, though.
Do you think Lidstrom is wearing a ceramic-armored cup this season?
'I actually played hockey, you didn't card' yet think 8 games into the season is a reason to be concerned about the Red Wings.
How many NHL seasons have you watched?
Number of times Detroit's won the Presidents Cup 6, number of times they followed that up the Stanley Cup = 2
23 Presidents Cups have been handed out, only 7 went on to win the Stanley Cup out of the nine who actually got a chance to play for the Cup.
The regular season doesn't mean crap in hockey. Just make the playoffs and you have a shot.
While I would argue that it means 'crap', I would agree with you that the largest obstacle is making the top 8, from there anything is game.
Seems like a good time to add that I can't seem to find that MacArthur quote anywhere, and I looked.
And I c+p'ed that MacArthur quote into Google. This thread was the first result.
Calm down Alton.
This thread has been destroyed already but I saw a similar question on another board and someone posted this image. So I'm blatantly stealing/borrowing it from 'Shinma' over at MotownSports but it fits.
To get back on track though:
Short answer, knee-jerk reaction: Yes.
Long answer, rationale: No, there's a lot of hockey to be played between now and April. I'll worry only when I have to, and right now there's nothing to legitimately worry about.
I think the Wings could possibly lose the Central, but there is almost no chance they miss the playoffs entirely.
No team has ever struggled out of the gate and gotten it back on track. Not in an 82 game season.
ozzy's responsible for swiss cheese defense?
someone said that helm/leino need to turn into datsyuk/zetterberg...you realize that Dats and Z are two of the top 10 forwards in the league, right? How many teams have 4 of the top 10 forwards in the league? Aside from the pre 1970 Montreal Canadiens who ever has?
Relax. The season is young. The Wings will be fine. I guarantee it.
I, too, have confidence. Holland and Babcock always manage to plug the holes with quality players.
That's just what Detroit does.
I'm sort of worried, but it's not time to panic. The Red Wings need to just hang in there until Franzen comes back. They are like Anaheim was last year. A team that you will expect to step up come playoff time. Making the postseason definitely is not a certainty this year though. Guys like Bertuzzi and Williams were brought in to provide depth and they are clearly not top liners. This is why I hate salary cap (in any sport).
I'm continually perplexed by how the Detroit defense could have gone from tops in the league in '07-'08 to way below average like it is now with mostly the same personnel. If the Wings could play tight defense and get solid goaltending, then they could still win a lot of games without Datsyuk and Franzen. I think that the team is mentally tired from all of the games that they have played the last four years and not as hungry, because they have won everything that you can possibly win. Even Zetterberg and Datsyuk aren't as dominant as they were just two years ago when they are on the ice together. When those two guys were on the ice in the Stanley Cup year, they were so dominant it was like they were playing in a different league. Now they are still very good, but they disappear for long stretches of time. Considering the circumstances though, it has been a miracle run for the Wings. 17 seasons in a row with home ice advantage in the first round is incredible.
I don't know how this a knock on the salary cap. Obviously, other teams are doing better and they have to follow the same rules.
This season was going to be a rebuilding year regardless, and the injury to Franzen and the departure of Hudler haven't really helped. Osgood may be money in the playoffs, but his regular season play leaves a lot to be desired at this point in his career. Jimmy Howard is nothing more than a backup, and next year I hope Holland goes out and gets a decent goaltender.
I think the Wings make the playoffs, but I'm doubtful that they'll get home ice or that they'll advance beyond the first round. This is alright with me, as long as Holland has a strong off season next year when he has plenty of money to spend.
