According to Detroit News' Top 10... UM out recruited MSU.

I'm sure another paper will have Bullough and Boisture much higher and J. Jackson and Austin White out of the top 10. With a side story about how R. Miller is actually from Florida

As an aside, I can't stand seeing Michigan kid's (moreso the highly ranked ones) going to rival Big 10 schools. Bolden I get, Gardner and Boisture already committed in-state. But Hankins has no excuse.

Michigan kids that leave the state for Oregon, LSU, Tennessee, Alabame, etc., I get it (don't like it, but I get it)... they want to go "somewhere else, see the country". But Columbus?

As far as top in state kids going out of state...

- Hankins wanted to go to Michigan. As it has been well documented, his assistant coach, Archie Collins (a known Dantonio slurper and deliverer of Gholston to MSU) prevented that from happening.

- Dior wanted to go to Michigan. Unfortunately for him, Michigan recruited other (read: better) DBs and he was forced to decide between MSU and Oregon. I have no problem seeing him go to Oregon. Dont want State to think they have their foot in the door at Cass Tech.

- Most of the other kids (Olanian, Tony Jones, etc.) were deciding between MSU and out of state schools. Believe me, MSU really wanted some of them, but I'm happy to see them leave the state if that was their choice.

The documentation was a blog post if he really wanted to go to UM he would be going to UM. Stop acting like Archie Collins has some Svengali like hold over every kid he coaches. We lost Hankins because we waited on offering which in hindsight was probably a mistake but at the time we had legitimate concerns about his weight, motivation which I believe were justified MSU never offered him for the same reasons he answered the questions that UM had about him during his senior year but by then other schools had been involved and had an advantage because they were recruiting him longer and with more interest. It happens he might become a dominant DT and for 4 years we will kick ourselves or he might never see the field. As for Gholston Gardner I have no problem who gets picked first both had great years both got selected to elite all star games both did will in practice for these which is more important then the game when it comes to evaluation as they get to see this guys go head to head against other elite prospects. Should be interesting to see what these guys accomplish over the next 4-5 years.

The idea that he "prevents" anyone from going anywhere...that's ridiculous. He has no hold over kids or their parents. Can he do his best to influence them? Yup. No more or less than some former Wolverine will or does try and convince someone else. But it's not like he has mental control over these kids. They're still making their own decision, and deciding who to listen to. If Hankins REALLY wanted to come to Michigan, rather than play insulted, he'd be signing here in a couple of weeks. If the Gholston family had any interest in Michigan, one of the prospects in their family would have come here. Is Collins exerting his influence? For sure. But he doesn't have mind control powers.

Quit being a bunch of pussies guys. Quit complaining

Gholston is a great player, with him being #1 in the state to Gardner's #1A. They play on different sides of the ball, so it's tough to compare.

Dantonio beat RichRod on this one - we would have been thrilled to have him, but he wanted to go to MSU for whatever reasons.

Bottom line is this - Our recruiting class is better than theirs, despite them getting Gholston.

I'm not too worried about MSU's "dominance" of in state recruiting. They're gonna get some good in state kids - they always have - Duckett and Rogers come to mind.

You need to recruit out of state if you want to be successful. We dont have the population and recruiting ground that CA, FL, TX, OH and PA do. Bottom line. Southeastern and Rennaisance are only gonna produce a few good/great players a year - it's not gonna be enough to

We do well recruiting nationwide, something that not many teams can match. Sparty sure as hell can't match it, and aside from FLA, ND, USC and a few others, nobody can.

Additionally, RichRod's recruiting philosophy is marketdly different than Carr's was. He puts an emphasis on speedsters, which is a southern thing.

I'm not too worried about Dantonio. It's PSU and OSU I'm worried about.

Re: "Dantonio beat RichRod on this one"

This was not a fair fight. On a level playing field, this was likely to look a lot different. Hell, even Bama, Florida, and USC would have been allowed in the game. But you can thank Mr. Archie Collins for not allowing that to happen. This wasn't a win for Dantonio. This kid was signed, sealed, and delivered to MSU from day 1.

But if the goal is to get the kid on campus and on your football team, Dantonio wins on this one.

We gotta start beating them on the field so we can snuff any momentum he has like a dead cigarette.

or possible Michigan men here. As far as Boisture being in the top 10- give me a break. The kid finally went up against some competition and was terrible. 4 TDs vs 8 picks is a top ten player in the state of Michigan. Doesn't say a whole lot about the quality of Michigan HS football.

Boisture is depth for MSU. Everyone knows he is not that good, he just has the tools to develope into a good QB in a few years. Maxwell is the kid I think will be a very good qb at state. Just not good enough to beat us lol

That list looks about right to me. I don't think you can really say who's better between Gholston and Gardner at this point. There is a lot of work for both of them between now and contributing in college, but they both clearly have the potential to be good. The only thing that looks a little out of whack is that I seem to have heard that Boisture has been very disappointing lately, so I wonder if he isn't a bit high at #9.

Dior could have come to Michigan if he really wanted. Early on, he had an offer. But he wanted to toy around with the recruiting process and take visits and such. By the time he wanted to make a decision, Michigan had moved on.

Except for Joe Boisture. I don't claim to be an expert, but look at those stats. Even if he turns out to be very good, how can he be ranked as a top ten Michigan prospect after throwing four touchdowns in an entire season.

I really don't see this article as being unfair to Michigan, except that I find his write-up to be humorously apologetic. Notice that Devin Gardner's section explicitly states his interception total, 9. Boisture's is not listed, even though most of us know by now, 8.

Since this doesn't deserve its own thread, I will post it here. Ricardo Miller and Jeremy Jackson are living in my hall here at U of M. Austin White has also moved in, and his roommate's name is Stephen, but I didn't recognize him. Is this Stephen Hopkins? I can't remember if he was enrolling early or not.

Why do people keep saying that Gholston disappeared on the field? The guy had 27 sacks. If his version of "disappearing" is racking up 27 sacks, then when he finally appears, the rest of us better take cover.

of playing against inferior competition. He's too good of an athlete not to be getting this many sacks. When SE face a quality team, Gholston disappeared. when Fordson played SE in the playoff, they ran toward Gholston's side which most team should've done because he can't take on blocks. Fordson repeatedly sent FB to Gholston with a lot of success.

With that being said, he's a fantastic prospect and has a lot of potential to be an elite DE. However, he struggles to take on blocks and get washed out easily. Gholston doesn't really want to play DE which doesn't bode well for Dantonio. He plays more like a Weakside DE rather than Strongside DE(a position that most people project him in the next level) and can chase down plays from behind.

People basically took disappearing in games from Tom Beaver and ran with it. What Tom really meant is he is a combine warrior(which is true) but come game time against players who are as good as Gholston, Gholston doesn't do much because he struggled mightly on trying to taking on blocks.

Because we need to keep pretending that we never wanted players that committed to other schools.

You can't get 27 sacks in a season without taking on some blocks. Tom Beaver can't logically conclude that he disappears when he's racking up about 3 sacks a game. The coaching in the PSL is notoriously poor. Just because Fordson exploited a weakness doesn't mean that he's merely a workout warrior.

The reason people on this board talk so much shit about him is because he didn't commit to the Wolverines. Wile_e8 has it correct. If he were a Michigan commit, everyone on this board would be drooling.

He was a LB in high school so when he gets to State they are going to have to coach him up on playing the line especially how to use his hands as for wanting to be an LB his frame is one that he will end up as a DE my guess he redshirts spends the next year as a rotation guy more of a situational pass rusher and then the next year look out Big Ten and knowing Sparty’s luck goes pro.
