DetNews: Where Michigan stands with four top offensive line recruits
To go along with gordiebell's OL analysis earlier there is an interesting article today by Sam Webb in DetNews about David Dawson, Cameron Hunt, Kenny Lacy, Na'Ty Rodgers and his interpretation of UofM recruiting's stance towards them.

Thursday night was the culmination of an explanatory process that Dawson began a few weeks ago.

The blurb definitely puts things in more perspective. Its hard to hold a kid to a decision that he made soon after losing his father to a sudden tragic accident. I don't think us grown-ups would be able to function for days and days after going through something like that. Its good that he is able to communicate the trouble he had with the coaches (and others in general). It helps with the healing process.
Moral of the story: Always keep lines of communication open, regardless of the circumstances. Just "keep it real" and everyone benefits, especially yourself. /end sermon

His on-field attitude had me as excited about him as I was about any 2013 recruit before he left.

Also, it looks like Dec. 14 will be quite an interesting day with recruits David Dawson, Kenny Lacy, Na'Ty Rodgers, and Gareon Conley all scheduled to visit Ann Arbor.

Dawson is "trying" to get to M on the 14th. That visit is far from etched in stone.

it looks like he'll have to commit before that Dec. 14th weekend. Otherwise, one of the other options could take the plunge. He's the only one that's been here before, so it makes sense he'd be able to.

Yeah, if Dawson commited on the 14th just before those other OL recruits get off the plane I would be one pissed off recruit. Especially if i was strongly considering going blue. But either way I want Dawson back. We need some MOAR nastyness in our front line.

Why? You would still get a free trip to and tour of Michigan. It isn't like the coaching staff would just flip them the bird and demand their money back for the plane ticket.

If you take the comments of each recruit at face value, none of them seem to be in any rush to drop the hammer. All of them seem to envision taking trips after Michigan.

Dawson's personal struggles and hurt and confusion are among the easiest things for me to understand. Not that I really understand, because I don't know, but it isn't at all hard to understand the confusion felt by an 18 year-old losing a parent.
What I don't get was Thomas Wilcher, instead of staying silent, saying "that [Dawson to Michigan] ship has sailed... sunk... whatever." I'm extremely happy that Wilcher is a Michigan Man, and I'm just as happy if Dawson enters Michigan as a freshman. But that was a weird thing to say, given what we are learning now.
November 30th, 2012 at 4:10 PM ^
I get what you're saying, but it's possible that Wilcher honestly believed that when he said it. Maybe Dawson told him as much, because at the time the coaches told Dawson he was out.
November 30th, 2012 at 4:34 PM ^
Because the other motivation might have been that Wilcher was trying to protect Dawson, at a delicate moment, from too many "Michigan" questions. Which is why I left it at "weird" instead of actually criticizing Wilcher, which is no business of mine. The guy is coaching a bunch of Detroit kids, and sending some of the very best of them to Michigan to be our football heros. That's a guy who deserves our maximum understanding and cooperation.

I don't recall where, but I saw Dawson repeat it as well.

Any of the four will work.
Obviously Dawson's summer camp performances, proximity, and ability to keep the Cass Tech tradition going would make him the preferred candidate.
However, as long as we get another interior line recruit, I'll be happy.

i agree i would like to see dawson back in the fold and i hope the coach's would give him consiteration but if does not work out i am happy to see there are options out there like hunt, lacy ect........ we need one thats all

Dawson.

I thought our top four recruits were LTT, Bosch, Fox, and Kugler.

Are you serious? Those guys are commits. I'm not sure why Sam Webb would write an article about our chances with them. It would probably be a short and boring article.
November 30th, 2012 at 8:00 PM ^
Not the least bit serious.
Also, commits are recruits until they sign.

The strangeness around him is completely understandable. Really, one day your dad goes to work and then just doesn't come back. The poor kid must be in a world of hurt. I don't know that he'll end up in Ann Arbor (if not i just hope it's not E. Lansing or Columbus). I can see how and why Hoke is making something of an exception to his "no visits" policy and talking to David.
