Justice Hayes checks in at No. 3, Fisher at 4, Beyer at 7, Hollowell at 11, and Desmond Morgan at 17.

I'm surprised he's so low.
Of all our retention issues with current commits, I am most worried about Fisher. I think he'll be a big time Tackle. And he's visiting some high profile schools.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
Which is why DETNEWS is not in the recruiting/scouting business.

Sam Webb is actually a very respected person when it comes to recruiting.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
That isn't Sam Webb's list. Sam thinks that Thomas Rawls is way undervalued, and is the opinion that Thomas Rawls is the best running back in the state ( I agree). There is no way he would rank Rawls that low.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
or in Webb's, Rawls > Hayes?
January 14th, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
Sam's opinion. Listen to his podcast this morning on WTKA.com ( The Michigan Insider tab). He has said it many times, but repeated it this morning on his recruiting roundup segment.
I live in the area and have seen them both play quite a bit and agree with him.
Detrick Goff is on Justice's team, and was transitioning into their feature back as well before Justice broke his wrist. Justice was playing mostly slot wr/3rd down back the first 3 games of the year before he got hurt.
Goff is a candidate for best back in the state next year, but his guardian up here belongs Spartan family so I would expect him to end up there if he stays in Michigan. He moved here from Mississippi last summer because of some family issues.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:04 PM ^
I was not claiming that this was an article or list written by Webb. Just pointing towards the vagueness of the original post claiming all of the Det News is not in the recruiting business. Just pointing out Sam does good work.
Its all semantics and not worth arguing about.

keeps Fisher and brings Zettel back, the Hoke-a-mania train will be unstoppabl in the local press
"See, SEE! Hoke is dedicated to bringing Michigan back by taking back the crown of instate recruiting from Mich St coach Mark Dantonio, who we recently learned in an investigative report, may have discipline problems on his program. "
- Freep, day after signing day 2011.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
is not coming back.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
I am not disagreeing with you, but unless you use some sort of FACT(s) to back up your absolute statement, it is useless
January 14th, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
have said there's no way that Zettel will reconsider his commitment to PSU.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:43 PM ^
It is not just message board rumors started by random posters. The mods at rivals interviewsed Zettle and he said he is a solit commit to psu.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
Looks like Rodriguez could recruit in Michigan after all? By my count, he garnered 5 of the Top 15 to Michigan State's 4 (albeit losing the #1 to Sparty).
January 14th, 2011 at 11:21 AM ^
I think it's fairly average. I love Hayes, Fisher, Beyer, Delonte... but we lost out on some big big names that we would traditionally get. The last 2 years we've lost out on the top player in the state to MSU. I can't think of this as an overwhelming success.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
the top player in the state has come from a school that refuses to send players to Michigan.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:29 AM ^
Did Michigan routinely get the top player from the state? Or did that kid routinely leave for "greener" pastures?
January 14th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
in the Rivals Michigan top 10...
Michigan: 3 commits - plus Conway :-(
MSU: 2 commits
remember people this is a bad recruiting class for us, and they still can't keep up.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:53 AM ^
Depends. This year we lost the top 3 according to Rivals. Last year we lost Will Gholston but he was never really ours to begin with. Mathis to Oregon sucks. Same with RoJo. Got Will Campbell in 2009 but lost the next 4 best players in the state to MSU and OSU. This state loses a ton of talent to other regional powers. National too. Nick Perry up and left for USC.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Dating back to 2003 (as far back as I can get on Rivals) here are the top players in the state each year, and the school they committed to:
2003 - Lamarr Woodley - M
2004 - Alex Mitchell - M
2005 - Kevin Grady - M
2006 - Brandon MFing Graham - M
2007 - Ronald Johnson - USC
2008 - Boubacar Cissoko - M
2009 - Big Will Campbell - M
2010 - Gholston - MSU
2011 - Thomas - MSU
So yes, we usually got the top player in the state. Pre-2003, MSU got guys like TJ Duckett and Charles Rogers who I believe were the top player their year, but this is usually our spot.

apparently looked pretty bad at the Under Armour game FWIW.

Slow? Unmotivated? Ski mask?
January 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
No, just ugly.

Raymon Taylor @ #16
Thomas Rawls @ #39
Shawn Conway @#22
January 14th, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
If crawford is indeed out for good, I think Taylor is a someone we really need in this class.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:08 PM ^
I think Taylor will be in this class whether or not we lose Crawford.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
Not a great list; if Duzey ran a 4.4 he would have had a much better offer list. Also Allen Robinson listed too high.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:26 AM ^
I bet we see even more michigan recruits come next season! I am hoping for 8 to 10 out of top 15! We need to go back to the days where MSU didnt stand a chance on big names.
January 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
3. Zettel
4. Fisher
5. Beyer
6. Hayes
The rest of the list is pretty accurate.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
MSU can haz LBz? Gotta help having two studs there that are leaving though.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Any way we can steal a Thomas or Ed Davis or Taiwan Jones from MSU? I still like another LB in this class...
Or, perhaps a Jake Duzey from Iowa...he looks to be a good sized TE/DE prospect.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
No on the MSU guys, and we wouldn't even want Taiwan Jones.
I don't know much about Duzey.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:40 PM ^
Magnus, maybe you said this before and I didn't catch it, but you think Desmond Morgan should be higher. Do you think he is better than Ed Davis? Do you think he should be out of the top 15.
