While you're right that these kids won't be on the field immediately, your comment about "Sparyt's recruiting dominance over us" is off the mark.  During the RR years, MSU was roughly even with us in-state, but out-of-state we were much stronger.  Our overall class rankings were much higher.  It certainly hurt that many of our highest rated recruits didn't last very long (i.e. McGuffie, BooBoo, Turner), but no way did State "dominate" us in recruiting.  What we're seeing now is "domination"...and maybe some word more "dominant" than that given Sparty is coming off a very good year and can't even convince the FHH kids to join the Warden.

You're exactly right and I've had this conversation with a few people, how scary is this going forward for MSU when you're coming of a co-Big Ten Championship (not playing one of the teams who also won it), and you can't pull at least one of these kids away from Michigan? That's got to leave you with a bad feeling in the pit if your stomach. This is why MSU has had success in recent years because RR really was all over the place with his recruiting and forgot about the emphasis on in state battles because most of the kids here "didn't fit" his system. Also true is this classes won't help in 2011 and probably most of 2012 but I have a feeling going into this years game against MSU is going to be a lot different because Coach Hoke and Coach Mattison will make this game mean something again to their players.

I didn't mean to imply that Sparty "dominated" us in recruiting these past few years - even though I did use the word "dominated".  I guess the point that I was making was that after adjusting for the players that are no longer here, Sparty is not at the talent deficit to us that they usually find themselves in.  We are probably closer in true talent level than we have been in the past.

As to your second point, I totally agree that what we are seeing now - 8 to 0 head to head (come on Burridge, make it 9-0) - somthing more than dominant.  It is a complete MattiHokination, which is clearly a stronger word than domination.  The fact that we are pwning Sparty in recruiting when (1) we are coming off of our worst three year period EVER, (2) with a coaching change, (3) and MSU is coming off of one of its best seasons in recent histroy, (4) and MSU's staff has been in with these kids for years, whereas Hoke has had all of 4 months on the job; is just insane.  It is true MattiHokination, I tell you.

agreed, except I think in this case the coaching change (typically a negative for recruiting) might actually be a positive for blue in the state of Michigan ...

I almost feel like it's not a shift to something new & different, but a return to something familiar to the in-state players & their families.  it's more a resolution of tension & restoration of confidence than an unknown variable that a coaching change might normally be.

absolutely though, you're right.  pretty impressive all things considered!

that all the experience on the offense isn't offset by the fact that we are running a different style offense. We all saw the improvement DR made between his first and second season, so he is a fast learner and I am hopeful he can pick this up quick.

Thanks for the link.

I hate twitter.  Let me just start with that.  It is hard enough to figure out what is going in when there are full interview, but in these little twitter soundbites, it is impossible.

Second, let's look at what this guy - "slim05" said:  "have u heard this rumor Dunn has decommited and came to us. Won't believe it till I see proof. Supposedly being announced in ohio"

So he said that there is a rumor that Dunn has decommitted and is going to Michigan.  This is true.  There is such a rumor and it has been around since mid-late April.  This guy doesn't seem to have any more info than that there is a rumor floating around - a rumor that has been around for a while.

Now look at his next tweet in which he says that he is backing off of the whole committing to us part of the rumor.  So, even his rumor - not exactly rock solid Tom VH level source - is backing off within an hour of his post.

I don't want to be too dismissive, but I think that this is just some fan that has heard the same rumors that we have all heard and doesn't realize that it might be old news.

That would absolutely make my day.  A big FU to MSU and OSU on the same day.

HOWEVA:

Can you provide a bit more context.  If you search the web, there have been reports of a Dunn decommit for days, even after Dunn and his father came out and stated that he did NOT decommit but that he was closely following the situation.

Was the person reporting the rumor a caller, or was it the host?  Did the person claim to have NEW information?

More context please.  I the F5 key on my keyboard is going to wear out if you don't give us some info and fast.

True, great recruits now will probably not help much this fall.  But lets also remember we have been playing a lot of freshman.

Also, recruiting is the life-blood of any program.

Hoke and Company is making our "Little Brother" look like our "Little Bitch!" Great to see this staff recruiting what we need DEFENSE.. and not just fast athletes from Florida.. Greg Mattison is a gold mine

"MSU is coming off an 11-2 season and a share of the Big Ten championship. That should allow the Spartans to be very selective about whom they offer. U-M is in a rebuilding stage and new coach Brady Hoke is being aggressive and stirring early interest." - Matt Dorsey, Spartanmag.com

banner year.  11-2 with two ass-thumpings at the hands of their two top ten opponents, playing a repeat criminal offender on basically the same day he was released from custody, and a trick play miracle to beat a team that we beat on the road.  Oh yeah, and the unveiling of those awesome and entirely color scheme appropriate black stripes on their shoulder pads.  That was the glory year.  They know it, I know it, you know it, Mike Valenti knows it, every Freep writer knows it, Morgan Trent knows, Jarel Worthy knows it.

Seeing Hoke and company really put the hammer down in Michigan is nice. Winning all of these recruiting battles really does a lot to settle down the talk from the Sparties. Hopefully this will translate well in the coming seasons.

1. Local kids are much more likely to stay committed than kids from far away who might reconsider due to family, friends, distance, weather or conference concerns. Not only are these great and highly rated kids but none are soft verbals (no flakes like DeQuninta Jones or Pearlie Graves amongst others from years past); and 2. We can still complete the instate sweep with Burbridge and O' Brien (although TN may lead do not sell us short with him)!
