Det. News: Lloyd Carr would hire Jim Harbaugh if it were up to him.
Very out of character for Carr to even comment about this stuff, but here it is. itshappening.gif?

EDIT: Perhaps the "bridge mending" between the two Brian had referenced in an earlier post was successful?

We've learned something after 7 years. Let's see what he says about Miles.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:53 PM ^
Does Lloyd Carr approve of monkey rodeo? Inquiring minds want to know.
December 4th, 2014 at 11:42 PM ^
Not sure. There are reports of a bumper sticker on Carr's car "Anyone But Miles".
Honestly only at Michigan could there be a plausible question of if old figureheads want to hire one of the best 10 coaches in the country. Who just so happens to be an alum. And a star QB.

I'm so tired of reading this. It's bullshit.
Florida just let the SAME "only Michigan" stuff get in the way of it dumping a truck load of money into Dan Mullen's lap.
They didn't even sniff at Mullen.
Why? Because of "only Michigan" stuff.
So let's not act like this only happens at MIchigan. It happens EVERYWHERE. Including at our own work places...in the "real" world.
News fucking flash. Human beings have biases, hold grudges and favor people they like.
Is it right? No. Hell no. But it's not "only Michigan" either.
December 5th, 2014 at 7:44 AM ^
In Florida's case wasn't it actually the AD Foley who didn't like Mullen? If so, then it would make sense for his opinion to matter since he is...you know, the guy doing the hiring. What Carr thinks about UM football and who the next coach should be should mean less than nothing to anyone.
December 5th, 2014 at 7:55 AM ^
It's Hackett's decision and Carr has said that. Now if Hackett leans on Carr or Griese or you or me...that's his decision too. I'm sure Foley leaned on people as well and vetted names with people in his circle as well. Foley is also one of the most well respected ADs in the country and has more experience doing the job than Hackett, so on the surface he may not need to seek as much assistance. But that's beside the point.
The point is this "Only Michigan" crap is just that, crap.
You think people don't get hired because the wife or friend of the man in charge doesn't like the candidate in question? You think a "culture" hasn't influenced hiring decisions in the past? Have you ever head of the "good ol' boys network?"
I stand by my point. This shit sucks. It's stupid. It's not fair. But it's not only at Michigan. It happens in politics, hell they call it "politics." It happens every day, everywhere. From the highest of high profile jobs to minimum wage opportunities.
Let's not act like Lloyd Carr is the only person to have influence over a job hiring or position that isn't not directly involved with.

I really hope LC doesn't have any power or any say here. He already screwed the program up for eight years. It's time for the power structure to learn its collective lesson here.
Besides, didn't LC run around saying he "recommended RR," even while he was sabotaging recruiting and giving out transfers like candy?
If it works out that Harbaugh is at Michigan, great. But after what LC did, I don't trust him to put the University ahead of himself anymore.

Honestly, this Carr conspiracy BS is like listening to conspiracy theorists talk about wind turbines, chem trails and f'n Bigfoot.

December 5th, 2014 at 3:35 PM ^
Do you have hard evidence that Carr was pulling certain strings for the last 7 years?
I mean solid, hard, "you know for a fact" evidence? No. That's what I thought. I know Lloyd and there is no way in God's green earth he would be so goddamn petty.

The Griese stuff I posted twice, the Funchess stuff had it's own thread, everything.

I refuse to get my hopes up. The last 24 hours have been extremely high(Beaver story) and then extremely low(Sam Webb story).

site earlier. He said it may be more difficult than people think. His sources didn't say it wasn't happening.
Here's what I wrote: "some that know him believe it is going to be more difficult than previously thought to pry him from the NFL" @bigunc1

That there aren't more people clamoring for John Harbaugh.
He seems to have completely fallen off the list in favor of Jim, Miles and Mullen. If anything Stoops is the 4th guy.
Not sure why people don't like or just don't mention John.
December 5th, 2014 at 8:10 AM ^
Probably because people realized it's a pipe dream. And if you're going to dream, you might as well dream about the guy that actually has some chance of happeneing.
December 5th, 2014 at 9:11 AM ^
Stoops would not be behind Mullen. No way.

Harbaugh made some disparaging comments about UM's education of football players. Said we steer them to easy courses, etc. This was after Lloyd didn't hire Jim for a position at Michigan he wanted, I believe. Last bit is a bit fuzzy though.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:40 PM ^
In 2002, Lloyd hired Scot Loeffler to be QB coach over Jim.
December 4th, 2014 at 11:14 PM ^
much less the smell test. Harbaugh was hired by the Oakland Raiders to be their QB coach, it makes one helluva lot more sense that Harbaugh turned down the Michigan job to take the Oakland job.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:42 PM ^
December 4th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
Most importantly, it appears that Lloyd isn't pissed at him anymore.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:58 PM ^
Right. I'm just saying...I thought I had a knack for holding a grudge, but Lloyd clearly tops me. I guess I get that he still wants to blacklist Miles for banging his buddy's wife 20+ years ago. Fine, that's being a loyal friend. But the fact that he and Harbaugh had to "mend fences" over a few comments made 8-ish years ago is ridiculous. Glad he can put it behind him (or grin and bear it) to do what's best for the program.
December 5th, 2014 at 8:37 AM ^
It could be the fence mending had to do with Harbaugh still being pissed that Lloyd didn't hire him. It could well be that Lloyd was over Jim's comments years ago. It jusr wasn't an issue until now. I suspect Carr is much more of an adult than you're giving him credit for.
December 5th, 2014 at 3:42 PM ^
You're assuming that what you just read is, in fact, the truth.
Honestly, how fucking small-minded do people think Lloyd is?
December 4th, 2014 at 11:08 PM ^
Harbaugh simply spoke an uncomfortable truth which seldom is voiced out if loyal to the ol' alma mater.
Edit: I also do not grasp why Lloyd would not want our first really high-profile, alumni NFL veteran QB to be a coach. I'm not sure if Elvis Grbac had retired by then, but Michigan's NFL pipeline still begins with Harbaugh.
December 4th, 2014 at 11:22 PM ^
let's see
we can hire: experienced QB coach and former GA who Tom Brady credited as helping him develop
or
a guy who is actually still an active NFL player
yeah, it was a really easy choice and Harbaugh was obviously the most qualified candidate
December 4th, 2014 at 11:25 PM ^
Because at that time Loeffler had a very good track record working with Brady, Henson, and Navarre.
December 4th, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
"Michigan's NFL pipeline begins with Harbaugh"
God dammit. I don't even know where to start with such a ridiculously ignorant statement. Dan F'N Dierdorf? Thom Darden? Number 98 himself? Ron F'N Kramer?
Jeebus.

played professional baseball. Not quite the same. Then there is John Wangler. He did attend training camps with both the Dallas Cowboys, NY Jets, and Detroit Lions but then later signed with the USFL Michigan Panthers. He was cut before the first day of training camp.
Before that Dennis Franklin was drafted by the Detroit Lions and actually played some WR for the Lions. He caught six passes in nine NFL games. Prior to that Don Moorhead was drafted by the NO Saints the same year the Saints drafted Archie Manning. Moorhead was drafted to be a running back, said to hell with that and signed with the BC Lions of the CFL. He was their QB for about four or five years.
Wally Gabler was a QB with the CFL for seven years.
Bob Timberlake was drafted by the NY Giants and was converted to place kicker. He made his first attempt, 43 yards, and then missed the next 14 attempts to end his career as a PK.
Jim Van Pelt played QB in the CFL and he led Winnipeg to consecutive Grey Bowl championships. His career ended in 1960 as he was drafted into the USAF.
December 5th, 2014 at 3:25 AM ^
Thank you for understanding context. I was indeed referring to the phenomeal run from Harbaugh to Henne of putting QBs in the NFL. I know that Rick Mirer chose ND over us because of the historical lack of QBs in the NFL at that point, even though Bo tried to convince him otherwise.
December 5th, 2014 at 3:27 AM ^
we ran the option before Jim.

Sigh. If you can't say something nice then you shouldn't say anything at all.
Unless you're an anonymous poster on the internet. Then you can say things like, "I would rather have Kate Upton for a coach than Greg Schiano because if we are gonna lose games then we might as well have a coach that looks good in a two piece."
December 4th, 2014 at 11:13 PM ^
Well, we've never seen Schiano in a two piece...
