Good article about Darboh and Chesson and their roles at Michigan. Really pulling for both of these kids, they seem like two examples of what makes Michigan football truly great.
Det. News feature on Darboh and Chesson
Living in Iowa, I have a soft spot for Darboh. He seems like a great kid, and he seems like he realizes the privilege he has to play for Michigan.
Where you at in Iowa. I'm in CR.
Two hours south of you - Keosauqua, Van Buren County
Being African, I have a soft spot for both of them and was ecstatic when both of them committed. It'll be great to see them play together and excel in this offense.
It would really be nice if one or both of these guys steps up this season and becomes a deep threat.
Everyone (including Brian) keeps talking about Chesson being too small at 196, and yet is considerably larger than Adrian Arrington was in his 4th year. If he is truly as fast as everyone says I think he could make an impact as a third wideout this year.
Saw some of those WR run around barrels drills and chesson looks absolutely explosive.
Him playing as a third WR would be phenomenal in an ace set.. Green/toussaint funchess gallon darboh chesson. Speed size and scary for a match up.
How do you cover funchess here without giving up the run? Better hope your LB has height and athleticism.
The new Manningham and Arrington
high self-control - which bodes well for a disciplined approach to WR.
They should be able to challenge the safeties enough to give Gallon & Funchess some room to operate, even if they don't produce much in stats.
We have Gallon who catches everything and is great after the catch. We have Funchess who is a matchup nightmare. We have Dileo who is a third down guru. If Chesson and Darboh can make an impact, our offense should the best we've seen in a while... if the OL can hold up.
It does always seem to come back to the OL. I'm trying to remember is pass pro more difficult than run blocking or vice versa.
I remember last year we kept saying that the pass protection was actually pretty good it was the run blocking that was abysmal. If we can get a similar performance to last year with marginal better run blocking this offense could be special.
Is there a stay out there for how many drops Funchess had? It seems like going back through the 2012 replays the past couple weeks that he caught everything thrown his way. Looking at the catches he did make on his touchdowns is like watching teenagers play monkey in the middle with their 6 year old brother. Can't wait to see what he does if he can block properly.
At the beginning of August, at least if this is correct, the hype was already building around Chesson. He was singled out by not only Hoke but Gardner and Gallon as well. Here's what Jeremy Gallon said back in March:
"Jehu, in one-on-ones, he’s just flying by people with his speed. Doing all these amazing things. You can tell he’s learning."
From the sound of things, of course, both Darboh and Chesson will be a vital part of the vertical aspect of Michigan's offense going forward.
I think he's bigger than Avant was. I can't wait to see him blocking some CB's into the ground, as well as catching some long passes. But, both these guys having good seasons are key to Michigan having a successful season IMO. They give us a lot more size compared to the 2 more experienced seniors Dileo and Gallon, thereby making better matchups in some situations.
Gallon, Darboh and Chesson. Will earn the privalage of wearing the number 1 Jersey?
football players with a lot of potential on the field. They both come from very families, they are grounded, focused on both football and academics. I really with the the best, both on and off the field.
Here is a nice little interview with Jehu:
