Love Desmond as a player and human being. Don't love his football personality. Way more of a homer than Herbstreit.

A year ago Desmond (Howard) was at some UM practices, and afterwords said , "apart from Jabrill Peppers, I didn't see a single player that wanted to be great." I think a lot of UM players, prior to this year, didn't know what being great meant, in terms of preparation and desire. The coaches didn't show them how to translate their wish for greatness to actual, tangible desire to be great, I think the biggest change Harbaugh's made is that he and his staff have shown the players how to want to be great.

I remember one where he was talking about the state of Michigan football, and he started off fairly calm, but by the time he was done, he was close to full out ranting about the lack of discipline, desire, etc prevalent in the team.  Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit were all in stunned silence for a few minutes.  I personally loved it, because he was 100% correct.

and it's rare when they're not, I have no problem with Desmond Howard loving him some Michigan Football right now.

As for Hayes, if the guy doesn't want to go to Michigan, so be it, I have a feeling we'll be fine moving forward. Good luck to him where ever he goes and more importantly his family situation stabilizes.

I remember several years ago...ok, more than several...when he would actively root against us during his broadcasts. Then he got better. Noticeably, and quickly. I think that some networks actually do give a damn about being level and quality, and somd commentators actually do give a damn as well. But not many of either.

I was just thinking during this interview, do either of our big rivals have the legends (current) that we have to represent our program? Maybe this is just a complete homer perspective, but we have multiple guys that are relevant and the usual face of our program (Desmond, Woodson, Brady) to name a few. When Michigan State comes up, who comes to mind? Risen? Burress? Or Ohio State? Herbstreit (terrible), Galloway, Wingfield? Again, I am only speaking of relevant players. I understand Archie was a phenomenal football player, but I would not consider him current.

Herbstreit is actually one of my favorite Buckeyes. He's generally less biased, which is why the OSU fans hate him. Archie is a good person who does a lot of good in the community in Columbus. Still think his 2nd Heisman was paid for, but he's used his fame in Columbus for good. Not mainstream current, but he's doing good work. Chris Carter, while he didn't leave OSU on good terms, has had a positive impact on a lot of kids and been a good mentor for those players who are facing substance abuse problems. He's a terrible homer, but I can't bring myself to hate him.

I can't think of anyone from MSU who is remotely relevant or doing enough good that I hear about on a regular basis. Same for ND. Golic is a fun listen in the mornings when he's not drooling over the domers, but he's not a legend like the ones from OSU and Michigan.
