finally someone shut up that lispy dinosaur
if you know, you have a speech problem, why would you put yourself in a position to be heard by millions of people each week?
I agree. If you have a disability of any sort, you should limit your career options in order to avoid having people like me see and make fun of you.
Dude half your posts on here are about making things politically correct. I'm not hating on you, I'm just making an observed statement.
They have to think about retiring that old goat! I'm happy that Desmond popped him one!
That picture is of a TD Desmond scored against Indiana later that season. Not the Notre Dame catch. But still a great pic.
Shoot, good call! I thought it was just a different angle of the catch against ND. This is the right one:
Yeah, both TD's were caught in the same spot. But the TD against Indiana was a much shorter throw from the 3 yard line. I don't t even think the pass was dive worthy but Desmond liked to dive, so more power to him.
The easiest way to tell the difference besides the angle of the dive are the people on the field in the background. The Indiana catch is right n front of the alumni band. The Notre Dame catch has only has two guys holding towels. Mr. Pink shorts is just out of view.
Yeah. The Indiana player's helmet is also over on the right-hand side...didn't see that. He had a little bit more separation on that play than against ND.
I was two years old that season so I was too young to remember any of the games on TV...but going back through the highlights, it was really a remarkable season. Lou Holtz is foolish to say what he did.
Nice helmet stickers!
Maybe I am wrong, but didn't Powers have over 100 yds in that game?
I was at that game and I'd forgotten that - he had a monster game. 38 carries, 164 yards and a TD.
That's a hell of performance that I bet 1% of Michigan fans remember (and it sounds like Lou doesn't remember it either). Desmond deserves the Heisman and all the accolades but its too bad Ricky doesn't get his props.
This was my parents first date, they sat in the corner of the endzone. Yes, that corner... And now you know the rest of the story.
So they banged that night and you came along 9 months later?
Let me guess - you're a June birthday?
Desmond Howard knocked your mom up?!
Michigan averaged 231.9 yards per game on the ground in 1991. What a mind-blowingly incorrect statement on Holtz' part. What a useless waste of airtime.
Holtz says something as well thought out as 90 year old with severe dementia? I just don't believe it.
Leave JoePa out of this
Lou Holtz=Blathering idiot
Joe Paterno=Great television
says something as well thought out as is a 90 year old with severe dementia? I just don't believe it.
There I fixed it.
While Holtz acknowledges the brilliance of the catch, the moment evokes emotions of a rivalry predicated upon the hatred of losing to a respected, but reviled foe. "I felt from that time on, Michigan lost its Bo Schembechler toughness," he said.
WhaWhat the heck is this supposed to mean? What the heck is this supposed to mean?
I think he was just pissed that Michigan switched away from what had been a losing formula vs. Holtz. He was 4-1 against Michigan from 1986-90 and 1-2-1 from 1991-94 (ND and Michigan didn't play in Holtz' last two seasons).
Michigan's play calling became more diverse. Bo loved to try and establish the run.
It wasn't so much the offense that had been the problem as special teams. We lost 19-17 in 1988 when our kicker missed as time expired (while ND's had gone 4-4). The next year we lost 24-19 when Rocket Ismail returned two kickoffs for TDs. In both games we outplayed them on both sides of the ball.
I remember watching that game and the subsiquent news broadcasts afterwards.
I also remember the feeling of shock and excitement from the fanbase because we actually threw the ball, something that would never have happened under Bo. It also helped in taking away the sting from the 1990 MSU game.
The year prior we were ranked #1 going into the State game when Desmond was tripped in the end zone on a 2 point conversion attempt to win the game
Seeing Elvis attempt the throw and Desmond make that catch to knock off a #1 ranked ND was pure joy and a foreshadowing of great things to come from Desmond Howard and Michigan quarterbacks.
It was Lou for playing for ties.
I think he means:
cause those guys weren't tough runners at all.....
Props for spelling Biakabutuka correctly.
Unfortunately, you misspelled Wheatley.
"He had shoulder surgery on his elbow" Lou
He hath thoulder thurgery on hith elbow
ESPN experienced a brief drought then, did they?
Threw into double coverage? More like over. Desmond burnt both of those guys pretty badly.
And Holtz needs to get over himself and Notre Dame. He probably thinks that one game won Desmond the Heisman or something. Plus, people seem to forget how good Elvis was.
Was Lou trying his hand at humor or was he being his normal senile self?
In 1990, we ran for 3,350 yards. That's an average of 279 yards rusing a game.
In 1991, Desmond's Heisman year, we ran for 3,008 yards. That's an average of 250 yards rushing a game.
John Vaughn had 201 yards rushing against ND in 1990. Ricky Powers had 177 rushing yards in the 1991 game.
Lou is just upset that the last time Notre Dame had a meaningful season he was still the coach... 20 years ago.
