Desmond will be at Professor Thom's today at noon for a book signing. Should be fun.

Oh man, whatever you do, do not eat at Professor Thom's.  I've actually sworn never to go back myself, the worst Michigan football viewing experience I've ever had (game result notwithstanding), and one of the worst bars you can find in NYC.

You're going to be in the minority on this.  I haven't had their food before, so I can't speak to that, but calling it the "worst Michigan football viewing experience" and "one of the worst bars you can find in NYC" is going way overboard.  The owners/management at Prof Thom's has been immensely supportive of UofM, and in particular, the Alumni Club of NY.

I think I'm eminently qualified to name the worst Michigan football viewing experience I've ever had. Beyond that all I can say is that the food is terrible, like uneatable, the drinks were bad, service almost non existent, and it's just kind of gross. I've only been once but the other 5 people in my party felt the same, it was so bad we left at half time and watched the rest at my place, which I've never done before or since. Just because the ny club watches there doesnt make it a good bar. My understanding is that the ny club had a chance to make the Ainsworth it's home for football games, wouldn't commit bc it wasn't sure the Ainsworth would be open in time for last season, and the Alabama alumni club grabbed it instead. If that's true it was a huge mistake.

The other alumni spot, larger and w/more TVs, with far better food (though its Southern slant may make it a surprising choice) and definitely a good game experience.  Prof. Thom's is more bar-like and has suitably bar-like food and ambience (i.e., they wouldn't use that word there).  The Ainsworth was used for the touring coach parade and seemed a bit more upscale and pricey, suitable for a reception with the big guns.  To each his druthers.

With all those venues, we car-less ones were very disappointed that John U. Bacon's "NY" book event was in New Jersey.  If you're reading this, John, we missed you.
