Derryck Thornton cuts list to 10 (UM in)

I don't follow college basketball recruiting much, but in the attempt to get my daily allotment of positive sports news, I have uncovered that on Tuesday Derryck Thornton trimmed his list to 10, and it included Michigan (others: Arizona, California, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, N.C. State, USC and UNLV ). He's a five star to everyone.
Money quote: "I want to watch a lot of games to see how I can fit into these programs,” he told Scout. “I want to see their style of play, how the coaches react to the players and the point guard.”
Everyone, including Beilein himself, is predicting a blowup year for Walton. With the previous 4 years of PG play, and the way Coach B uses his PG, one has to feel good that the top PG in the country is looking at us and monitoring how he'll fit.
With the recent news elite prospect Jaylen Brown ('15) taking an official visit here, seems like Michigan has a chance to see recruiting success match the success on the court.

JB's been on Thornton for a long time. Let's hope recruiting perserverance, recent PG success, and UM's style of play win out. He would be a perfect heir to the PG throne when Walton departs in a few years.

Beilein is on a ridiculous streak of point guard development:
2009-2011: Darius Morris: Relatively unknown 3 star point guard, NBA draft pick.
2011-2013: Trey Burke: A fringe 3/4 star PG, great freshman year, amazing sophmore year, and wins the naismith player of the year. Gets drafted as a lottery pick in the NBA draft.
2012-: Spike Albrecht: Super under the rader point guard. Developed into a very strong back up point guard, who would be a starter for most D1 teams. Makes a ton of 3s in the national championship game in a heartbreaking loss to Louisville. Flirts with Kate Upton on twitter
2013-: Derrick Walton: Four star recruit. Had strong freshman season, seems poised for a breakout sophomore year like Morris and Burke.
Seriously, how could any point guard not want to play for Beilein right now?

Totally agree. If you're a guard, you'd have to have a compelling reason to _not_ play for Beilein right now. Family concerns, geography, something like that - because as far as basketball is concerned, there's no way you could find a program better able to develop your talent.

Beilein is the anti-Hoke

I hate to say this, but Beilein is very much like Dantonio in terms of player development. Not comparing personailty, but purely as a coach they are very similar.

He did well with Manny Harris too.

I use to hate that basketball season was what I looked forward too the past couple years, but this year I am so excited to enjoy Michigan basketball. The fact that a football season is still happening and all I care to read about anymore is whether the AD is out the door yet or not, is getting to me. I need basketball.. I need something to be excited about in Michigan sports.. I need to see Belien representing this University on the sidelines again.. I need you Michigan basketball!! Keep coming good news.

I am hoping that Beilein works his magic on Walton this year and Thornton sees this. Imagine how good a five star point guard could do under him.

Why would you mention the Sparty Football coach in a happy thread about Michigan Basketball? Please, don't ruin my buzz.

There's a LOT to like about playing for Beilein. Especially if you're a point guard.
