freshmen year at 248lbs 27% body fat now my sophomore year at 220lbs with only 9% body fat. Work for what you want. pic.twitter.com/WMTZo9DC7F

He's done an amazing job, but I gotta say, that looks a little higher than 9%.
Remember that he can dedicate time significant time shaping his body where many of us can't. He probably spent significant time losing the bad weight and getting to what he wanted to maintain before working in adding muscle.
After getting rid of the unwanted and detrimental fat he probably figured he could reshape what already existed into a more attractive and efficient package. Now he looks like when he lowers his shoulders you had better be satsified in just getting the young man to the ground. Don't be concerned at all with trying to put him on his back to mate a statement. I don't think that's going to happen too often this season. Also could be the reason the other backs looked much stronger in the spring game. I swear on one play Smith had 7 players hit him and although not going forward, neither was he down or going backward. It's contagious.
Say that to his face
But honestly, 9% at 220 lbs is still 20 lbs of fat. If he lost 8 lbs he'd be around 6%, so I think his numbers are pretty accurate. Huge change from what he was. He lost over 40 lbs of fat and gained over 20 lbs of mucle. That is a monster year in the weight room. Hopefully this is combined with some good footwork and blocking and we can see some good results.
It'd be great to have a serious complete backfield. It seems like it has been since Hart/ Henne that we've had one. I still wish I could have seen Minor Rage with Denard. That backfield always seemed like it would have been killer.
Denard and Toussaint were pretty damn good in 2011. We didn't have an outstanding big back, but Hopkins was mostly servicable.
This is more than just weight room work. He's been working with a nutritionist, I'd wager, and become extremely disciplined.
players want to see a repeat of last year and have 100% committed to making sure it doesn't happen. We are still young but I think this team will prove to be one that we can be proud of regardless of the outcome. It seems to be a team that's working hard. I think "disciplined" is the key and will apply to a number of areas.
But Aaron Wellman aint no slouch.
bigger shoulder pads.
and performance on the field.
it apparently worked in college
but I imagine the Funchess threat alone should open some holes.. . .probably wishful thinking, but it's all I got.
Let's go with entitlement. And we never heard 248 last year, we heard 240. So he let himself go and learned the hard way college is a whole different level. Hope to see positive things out of him this year.
His lats are almost horizontal.
They probably just did the quick, arm measurement of body fat, which can be misleading.
golf outing and then working on the new house this weekend! My money be burning!
DG needs to to be lighter on his feet. I think he sees holes very well (and they we NOT many last year), but he really needs to improve getting by that shoe-string tackle. Yeah - he can pound somebody - but if DG wants to be in the mold of Richardson (AL) he needs to have quicker feet. I'm certain the weight loss is going to help with this !
Go Blue!
I read DG as Devin Gardner at first and was fairly confused about what that had to do with anything.
Dude, you're not paying attention to the camera angles. Did you see Green at all last year? His thighs are tree trunks. Don't let the rest of his body and the camera angle fool you.
He's probably a bit higher than 9%, but don't confuse body fat with extra skin. He's down almost 30 pounds; his skin has likely not fully adapted.
They look pretty bulky to me, so no concern here .
I don't give a crap if he is at 9% or 12% or 14%. The dude is clearly in waaaaaay better shape than last year. There is no way that doesn't turn into production on the field.
Let's hope that Green inspired Smith to go full beast-mode too. It would be just wonderful to have two backs going off.
He is going to be a problem the next 3 years for the B1G. A THREE HEADED MONSTER of Green, Isaac, and Smith. Go ahead and give us the "Chrystal ba......" Oh, well the other womanly shaped trophy.
The Golden Flashlight?
Edited for MGoBoardFriendlyness
why red shirts are a good idea.
SOMEONE BLOCK SOMEBODY!
A couple of monsters there.
I just want to see some good results this year, is that too much to ask?!?
a lot of people said that Aaron Wellman wasn't half of the strength and conditioning coach that Barwis is. i'd say the guy known's his shit.
