I went from 215 to 170 in a year so the fat loss is certainly possible. I've never tried to add muscle, but it seems within the realm if possibility to me.

Remember that he can dedicate time significant time shaping his body where many of us can't. He probably spent significant time losing the bad weight and getting to what he wanted to maintain before working in adding muscle.

After getting rid of the unwanted and detrimental fat he probably figured he could reshape what already existed into a more attractive and efficient package.  Now he looks like when he lowers his shoulders you had better be satsified in just getting the young man to the ground. Don't be concerned at all with trying to put him on his back to mate a statement. I don't think that's going to happen too often this season.  Also could be the reason the other backs looked much stronger in the spring game. I swear on one play Smith had 7 players hit him and although not going forward, neither was he down or going backward. It's contagious.

But honestly, 9% at 220 lbs is still 20 lbs of fat.  If he lost 8 lbs he'd be around 6%, so I think his numbers are pretty accurate.  Huge change from what he was. He lost over 40 lbs of fat and gained over 20 lbs of mucle. That is a monster year in the weight room. Hopefully this is combined with some good footwork and blocking and we can see some good results.

It'd be great to have a serious complete backfield.  It seems like it has been since Hart/ Henne that we've had one.  I still wish I could have seen Minor Rage with Denard.  That backfield always seemed like it would have been killer.

players want to see a repeat of last year and have 100% committed to making sure it doesn't happen. We are still young but I think this team will prove to be one that we can be proud of regardless of the outcome. It seems to be a team that's working hard. I think "disciplined" is the key and will apply to a number of areas.

fat kid, literally freshmen year of high school and told he will not play HB ever. Went to a UVA trainer and was starting HB from there on. He has the determination, if the oline does even a little better he will be unstoppable with a ok passing game.

Definitely didn't mean to sound harsh as I'm happy for the kid and want him to have great success. Saying that, coming in as a 5* guy with a opportunity to start right away, he neglected his own body and weight training regimen. He was by all accounts a workout warrior in high school, so to come in at that size was disappointing. Maybe you can find a better word for me, but I thought it fit. Again not trying to down the kid in any way and apologize if I came off insensitive.

So you think Funchess is your ally? But you merely recruited him. I work out with him; got molded with him. I didn’t see the light until I was already a Sophomore, by then to me it was only blinding.

DG needs to to be lighter on his feet.  I think he sees holes very well (and they we NOT many last year), but he really needs to improve getting by that shoe-string tackle.  Yeah - he can pound somebody - but if DG wants to be in the mold of Richardson (AL) he needs to have quicker feet.  I'm certain the weight loss is going to help with this !

I'm sure I'm about to get neg here but oh well. No one is concerned with the lack of bulk in his legs? Maybe it's the camera angle but his lack of size in the most important part for a RB is alarming. As said above there is no way he is at 9% body fat. That is laughable to anyone who lifts. I also believe Smith will be the starting RB and extremely happy we got the guy the coaches had #1 on their board from the get in that recruiting class Issac

Dude, you're not paying attention to the camera angles. Did you see Green at all last year? His thighs are tree trunks. Don't let the rest of his body and the camera angle fool you.

He's probably a bit higher than 9%, but don't confuse body fat with extra skin. He's down almost 30 pounds; his skin has likely not fully adapted.

They look pretty bulky to me, so no concern here .

I don't give a crap if he is at 9% or 12% or 14%.  The dude is clearly in waaaaaay better shape than last year.  There is no way that doesn't turn into production on the field.

Let's hope that Green inspired Smith to go full beast-mode too.  It would be just wonderful to have two backs going off.

a lot of people said that Aaron Wellman wasn't half of the strength and conditioning coach that Barwis is. i'd say the guy known's his shit.
