Does he have a date set that he is announcing?
Derrick Green reaffirms Michigan as his leader
He said in an interview with Farrell that he'll definitely try to make his decision in January at some point....for what it's worth.
Expect him to announce mid to late January. I am hearing right around January 20.
Do we still have no idea when he will decide or is it reasonable to expect a decision soon since he doesn't currently have anyone competing with us and time is running out...
Also Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I doubt it makes much of a difference at this point since signing day is basically a month off, unless he drags it out past that.
Even when a recruit makes a "decision," it doesn't count until he enrolls early or signs an LOI. It seems like there is always one "flip" to the good side and one to the bad side on NSD. With an "average" class of 25, that works out to any "committment" being a 96% "committment."
I'll take more news like this, please!
Water is wet. Until signing day then water is dry.
He hasn't had a set date for an announcement since his recruitment began. He's been one of those "when it feels right, etc." kids.
Rivals also posted this article with Dymonte Thomas, who plans to recruit Green hard this week. It's hard to say when he'd announce though.
It still doesn't feel right to commit to Michigan yet? If we are the leader by far and he's not announcing at an all star game it makes me think he is still looking for something else. Hope Im wrong.
You're making an assumption based off a small amount of circumstantial evidence. This is a huge decision for an 18 year old kid who dreams of making it to the pros. I would probably be pretty hesitant to say anything in his position even if I was 99% sure. There is nothing weird about waiting on it and we shouldnt be speculating reasons for it.
He's also talking about taking two more visits.
I'll be happy to see his signed LOI.
Great news! Thanks!!
From the Farrell video, they say OSU has 19 in their class...Wasn't the word that they were going to have a smaller class this year?
Super Duper. Neato Gang.
Michigan may be the leader, but his actions this past month have not been of a person who is in love with Michigan football.
What actions would those be? The only ones I've noticed are the ones consistent with him being a quiet kid. They do exist you know, even in football.
I didn’t say he does not like Michigan. I meant, from the sounds of things, he isn’t necessarily 100 percent sold on Michigan, despite naming the Wolverines as his leader. He told Rivals on Dec. 27 that he is “definitely considering” Miami, and, as it is public knowledge, he will take official visits before signing day. My previous comment stands true, he doesn't appear to exactly love Michigan.
Or he could be just taking his time and making sure he makes the right choice... Seriously, I'll never know how you people jump to conclusions like this with very limited information.
That's fine. With our depthchart if he doesn't get pt his freshmen year he is a bust anyway. I wouldn't be surpirsed to see him starting by big ten season
My gut tells me that he can probably beat out most of the guys on the roster, with the lone exception being a healthy 2011 version of Fitzgerald Toussaint...who is coming off a poor season and a broken leg.
I know that Rawls did not show very good vision this year, but I still have some hope that once the OL can get some push, he will be decent. When Wisconsin's OL was horrible at the beginning of the year, Ball couldn't get going either.
With a very good offensive line, I think Rawls can be average.
pessimistic. He just said we're his leader. Nothing wrong with looking around before committing to be sure.
As a running back, I wouldn't be 100% sold on Michigan, either. The running backs sucked this year, as did the offensive line. And no Michigan running back has done anything in the NFL since Anthony Thomas, who was a mediocre NFL player.
I think the offensive line will be good within a couple years, but if teams are selling recent success at the position, Michigan would be far down in the pecking order.
Magnus, you say the O line sucked but did it really? You've got an All American and a few All B1G performers. Or was it more of teams putting 8 in the box, stopping the run, and forcing Denard to throw? Or was it the play calling of the O co-ordinator. UM tried several runnning backs with limited success, so I see deeper problems than you blaming the O line.
If you go back and look closely at the interior offensive line you will see just how terrible they were this year. Just because Omameh was given a career achievement award with an all conference selection doesn't mean he was actually one of the best lineman in the conference. The three in the middle were beaten time and time again, missed blocks, missed assignments, and couldn't pull fast enough to get out in front of the backs.
You mention that UM tried several running backs with no success, doesn't that tell you that the constant of the O Line is more of a problem then the running backs? You ask about the OC, but forget that he was the same OC who called the plays that got Fitz over 1000 yards last year and having 8 men in the box is no different than what we had last year. The only difference in those elements between last year and this year is the change at center and left guard.
Bottom line, the interior O Line was atrocious and that hand cuffed the offense, particularly the running backs.
Are you saying that losing a four-year starter at center who was a consensus All-American and Rimington Award winner his senior year wasn't a huge loss? Especially when we didn't have an experienced and capable center to replace him?
"I see deeper problems than you blaming the O line."
I don't. Yeah, Lewan was pretty good, but Barnum, Mealer, and Omameh couldn't get any push, and Schofield was mediocre. One good offensive lineman doesn't make the rest of them good. And if Omameh truly deserved to be named All-Big Ten, then the rest of the guards in the conference must have been poor. I think that was more of a Lifetime Achievement Award than anything.
That interview was from...Canesports.com
When Matt 'the Caneman' Schodell (or whatever the hell the Miami reporter's sweet middle name is) calls you and asks you if you're interested in Miami, quiet non-trouble causing high schooler says yes.
Matt 'the Caneman' Schodell prints up NATION'S TOP RB TAKING STRONG LOOK AT CANES
Pardon my French, but what the fuck are you talking about?
Roll Damn Tide
If he is quiet, then we don't like it because he's not in love with Michigan. If he is saying he's in love with Michigan, then he's playing us.
Can we please relax and let this play out?
It's not over until he signs, so I'll be crossing my fingers until then. This does bode well for us.
would be a nice get, yes please
Can we buckle up now? Maybe just for old times sake?
So what exactly are the chances Green comes to michigan ?
Slim to none in all probability. I think it'd be great if he came here but the signs seem to be pointing away(before anyone gets all huffy, yes, he has M as his leader, but do I really need to go through another list of people who called M their leaders and then ended up elsewhere?).
So a guy declares Michigan his clear leader a month before NSD, and your chances are "slim to none"? That doesn't make any sense at all. Just because you think he'll end up elsewhere doesn't mean our "chances" are non-existent. That's like saying that because Michigan lost a close game to Notre Dame that we had no chance to win the game.
Yes, all kids making decisions are different, but the longer it takes the worse the chances for Michigan. To say otherwise is being blind to experience.
Past performance does not guarentee future results. If he is taking a long time choosing us, then he's also taking a long time choosing anyone else.
Yes, chances are slim to none. Not sure why that was flamebait. I never said anything negative about either Michigan or Green. Yes, chances are slim to none, IMO as it looks like Green is looking to go elsewhere but hasn't found a good enough fit and therefore is maintaining Michigan as a "fall-back" option, the one thing I've found about "fall-back" options in life is they rarely prove to be the road taken. So yeah, he can maintain Michigan as his leader all he wants, it might just be a way for him to keep the various sites off of his back. I will be thrilled to be wrong, but I doubt I will be.
Is that something unique to Michigan then? Because he's done that to all of the other schools too. If Michigan is slim to none, then what are the other schools he's considering? Obviously he's not 100% sure he likes us best, but it's just as obvious he's not sure on anyone else either, and there's only a month left for everyone else to make up ground.
If Michigan's chances are slim to none, then I think that indicates that Green is skipping college football and going straight to hosting "The View."
Rabbit, I'll bet you're the kind of guy that turns off the TV and says the season is over if the other team gets a FG on its opening drive. Repeat after me, "My cup is half FULL!! My cup is half FULL!!" Say it enough and maybe someday your cup will runneth over.
this kind of news
A running back with his skill sets and our future offensive line could be one powerfull threat.
Great news, but for some reason, a part of me thinks Green is waiting for another school to really impress him so he has an excuse to go elsewhere. Michigan seems like it has always been the logical #1 choice, but his heart seems to be in the south.
I feel as if there are contributing factors (family, weather, familiarity) that could hold Green's interest, but he has continued to debunk your trepidations, don't you think? See the glass as half full these days; you don't REALLY know where his heart lies.
I have never been recruited by D 1 schools but to me if a player really likes the campus, academics, other players attending the school, and are pretty much going to start when they walk on campus but does not commit, I'd say there is something holding him back, he is more than likely waiting for someone to offer late. This will get marked as me being negative or trolling, but something isn't connecting between Michigan and Derrick Green, at this point if he commits, I hope it is on NSD so he can't flip, I will be shocked if he is Blue in the end.
#1 RB in the country. I doubt there is a team he is waiting for. Quite the opposite I would guess.
Must be full on RB's. We are his leader now and that isn't a bad thing, I just have a weird feeling. If he likes everything about Michigan, something is holding him back, it is well known that the South is a bit more comforting to him, I hope Dymonte can help reel him in.
If Dymonte enlists some help from Shane, I'm thinking that increases our chances significantly.
Just because he hasn't jumped on the Wolverine Wagon from day one doesn't mean his heart is elsewhere or he's looking for a cop-out. If he commits to UM late it doesn't mean his heart won't be in it. You bet he'll be playing his butt off for four years regardless of where he plays so he can make that paycheck at the next level. I think Green wont surprise and will go blue.
I'm with ya. I just have an uneasy feeling from his interviews, but I'm always pessimisstic.
Somebody flash the Tom VH signal. Man I miss that guy!
Just one sip?
Clowney will get one taste of Michigan in the bowl game and transfer here. Book it!
Are "one word text"s possibly "leave me alone texts? I'm prepared to feel the wrath of a thousand bloggers by typing/posting that, but just a legitimate query.
That's what I was thinking. You gotta think he's sick of being bugged by so many people. Usually when I text a one word answer it is code for leave me the hell alone.
By not having someone text him
He shouldn't have to make it all go away. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry shouldn't be pestering him about his decision. The NCAA says he has several more months to make his decision, and the earliest he can make it is the first week of February. That ought to be good enough.
I'm as interested in recruiting as anyone, but I really don't care WHEN these kids make their decisions. Although I guess I prefer that they don't make them all at the same time, because those commitment posts get painful for the wrists...
Hey Jesus! Where ya going to school?!?!
If his info is pro-Michigan, then we believe him and are all happy.
If his info is anti-Michigan, then he has never been right in his life and there is no reason to even post anything from him.
That is my understanding, hope this helps.
So in this case it is good news, so he is correct.
Mike is usually dead on about most kids, especially those from his region. He's the source you want to trust when it comes to Derrick Green info.
All it says is that DG (NNTDG) is looking for a reason to go somewhere other than Michigan and there's a month for him to find it. So don't count on him going Blue...
I'm 50-50 this will happen. Treadwell was a lock and seemed like a no-brainer for him. We all know how that has played out.
Yeah, but Treadwell's interest in Michigan was early, and diminished the more he visited other schools. Green's interest in Michigan was pretty mild and increased the more visits he took (to Michigan and other schools). If anything, Green was supposedly a lock to Auburn at one point.
Treadwell was never a lock. It was pretty clear to me - and others - that he was going to be a difficult pull. Great high school receivers don't generally like to go to schools that don't throw the ball so good.
Let's do something special these next four years
UF and FSU, plus LSU, perhaps. Has anybody heard anything on that?
It has to be the weather.
I hope he commits to Michigan. I'm sick of striking out on top caliber running backs at the last minute for the last 5 years.
I think he ends up in this class. Just becuase the kid doesn't tweet #GoBlue! every other tweet doesn't mean he doesn't really want to go to Michigan and keeps looking for a reason to go elsewhere. He sounds to me like a kid who's trying to not make an emotional decision, but a rational one based on playing time and program mix that gives him the best shot at making it to the NFL and where he feels comfortable being. Every recruiting expert seems to agree that Michigan makes the most sense for him based on his own stated factors, and Green has named Michigan his leader and said there really isn't a number 2.
Now, It's true that emotion can trump rational decision making, but up to now Green hasn't seemed to have that emotional connection to any program that would make him throw his rational process out the window. This definitely includes Michigan (or he would have committed already), but as others have said, it also includes all the other programs he's seen. I just don't see any other school really generating that emotion, so when all is said and done, I think he goes blue.
anything can happen, but all of his other supposed "favorites" have major factors going against them. tennessee and auburn have new coaches and are going more spread/passing attack. miami is going to get hit hard with sanctions, not to mention their stadium is barely ever more than half full. he also doesn't seem like his style would be well-suited for oregon. he seems like he'd be too north-south running style for them. i think, as far as green as green is concerned, the only knock on michigan is that its not the south.
seems this comes out like 3 times a week. At this point, its no longer news unless he names someone else as leader OR actually commits.
Just a couple of months ago, LaQuon Treadwell was thought to be a shoe-in and Green was thought to be a longshot. How things change.
I know, now we're getting both of them!
