Derrick Green Post #135

Submitted by NFG on

Mike Farrell has come out with his projections of the highest rated recruits left who haven't committed yet. He has Michigan landing Green for what it is worth. You'll notice Treadwell and others going to Ole Miss, he projects. I really want to make my way down there to see what all the hype is about.

I don't think that the former players from Ole Miss are much of a draw.  I think that it's the game day traditions and the women.  Game day is supposed to be something special.  It's definitely high on my "to do" list (along with Baton Rouge and Lincoln).

I've already been to Starkville, MS for a Mississippi State game.  Nice enough....but not really impressive.

I have a feeling the gameday experience is pretty much the same everywhere. Everyone does the same things (band, tailgate, some form of parading the team) but some are better at hyping up there own traditions. I've been to a few places and haven't found much differences except in the south they dress nicer and drink less, which in turn makes the ladies seem a hell of a lot classier (not a difference I take lightly).

I was just kidding. I think trying to list "recent" NFL players v. "recent" recruiting busts to sort out why a current recruit is considering a school is a fool's errand. Especially when we're throwing around players like Eli Manning and Jevan Snead as examples; it's not like the coaching staffs that coached either of those guys are still around.

Just about everyone produces decent talent from time to time. Purdue and Illinois are currently churning out some quality NFL D-line talent. Every blind squirrel finds an NFL acorn every few years

Hugh Freeze and staff (Ole Miss coaches) seem to be doing something very right down there. Obviously, playing time is a possibility immediately for a lot of recruits, but he's doing a really great job for a program that hasn't done much of anything (outside of a good LB and Eli Manning) in the last 50 years or so.

A while ago I read Meat Market by Bruce Feldman. Its an older book (2007 I believe) which Feldman followed former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron around for a couple of seasons. The focus was specifically on recruiting. Also on staff was Hugh Freeze, which hes labeled as one of the best recruiters. It also gives insight as to what goes on and how they recruit.

They dont hide the fact they use the prettiest co-eds to give recruits tours. They set strict rules though for the ladies. Such as no sex, drugs, or alcohol, etc. Also, they use an online academic program from BYU to help some recruits who are on the fringe grades wise. Not sure if the program is still used or not. But some recruits found that compelling. They use The Grove and the facilities as a key selling point, too. The book mentioned recruits saying how pretty the ladies were and how much fun they had. No shocker there. A lot of recruits loved Hugh Freeze which could explain why some of the elite prospects are considering Ole Miss.

There are some more factors but I cant remember them. This was just to give some insight about Ole Miss and why Treadwell and others are considering them. I know its an old book but relevant bc Freeze was there before and now hes the HC.

It doesn't make any sense at all. Id understand if they' were landing a bunch of 4* players but this is crazy! Landing two players who are in the top ten for a middle of the road to bottom SEC team sounds VERY fishy

I'll admit it. We went down to Ole Miss in the 2011 season to see what all the hoopla was about. It defeinitely lived up to the hype, and I highly suggest anyone able to to make the trip. Tickets are very, very cheap, for great seats. Also, not only are the girls as gorgeous as the ones you google, but the tailgaters are super friendly. Invited into a few tailgates to eat and drink as we please, and stopped by numerous other fans just to chat. Of course there were the jeers and the like, but nothing harsh. In addition, we even saw another group of Michigan fans from afar. Make the trip!
