Derrick Green knows where he's going.
I know what I'm going to eat for lunch tomorrow!
What if Taco Bell were giving away free chalupas tomorrow? Might that change your mind?
Yup, I'm bringing my talent to Taco Bell now tomorrow!
Is it just a visit or are you fully committing? I think Burger King might be a better fit. If McDonalds is running a deal do you decommit from Taco Bell and look elsewhere?
I'm a man of my word once I commit. I will still take other visits to McDonalds and Burger King though.
He was going to go to Taco Bell anyway.
That is only because McDonalds's offer wasn't commitable.
We already have tacos. What if we got Ruebans too.
That'll be the most delectable of commitments.
?
Five-star RB Derrick Green knows where he's going, still hasn't announced ($): http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1456744 …
This has to be good news, right. He hasn't met the new staffs at Tenn and Auburn yet.
Lets hope your right
You're
Disney?
The seat belt is buckled!
Balas has less credibility than random Bleacher Report contributor. I follow him on twitter strictly for the comic relief.
I don't like Balas, either, but the words came straight out of Green's mouth. It's hard to mess that up.
Wiltfong says that it isn't as hard to mess recruits words up as you say it is.
They come is twos right?
Reuben Foster
Cameron Hunt, perhaps?
NT
greedy ass mofos be happy with just a single top RB.
Good news for us 100%...
The thing making me nervous is that it's so obvious he would be coming to Michigan. I'm probably overthinking though
So does Michigan still less then?
Thanks. Can anyone say autocorrect makes a joke not funny?
So does Michigan still less them*
What about Daryl Green? We need corners!
#MichiganState
We all know they're in it with all the top recruits.
We have a lot of good corners. Terry Richardson, Ross Douglass, Channing Stribling and will be leaders for Parrker Westphal and Damon Webb next year.
We have Blake countess coming back off his knee injury as well
Honestly, if I were his age, I think I'd be doing exactly what he's doing. Michigan isn't recruiting any other RBs, so there's no reason to rush the announcement. In the meantime, why not take the opportunity to see other schools? It's a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing.
Most importantly, though, if those SEC recruiting trips are anything like what I imagine, there are some Southern belles in Green's near future.
He's not in a bad spot right now.
Please, let there be SEC Southern Belle Recruiting. His family doesn't roll that way, and that would seal the deal for Michigan. From the ESPN article:
As for a social life, don't expect to see Green at a night club. Aside from the occasional school-sponsored dance, it's all faith, family and football. Going out and partying doesn't fit the plan.
"He doesn't have an interest in those types of things," Fran Green said. "With the football team, he's making sure they stay out of trouble. He's a positive leader and motivator in that way."
Come on...I'm sure she's not the only mother to think that about her son before he started college....
I used to blow smoke up my mothers ass too.
Getting Green would be big for getting Reuben Foster since they are friends.
Would be great for or running game too
Don't you know that the national recruiting championship is the important thing, now?
this Reuben foster talk is such nonsense guys. I mean, come on.
Is that the State of Ann Arbor.
The People's Republic of Ann Arbor.
Looks like somebody's been playing a lot of golf.
so he can milk the process for all it's worth.
Fine with me. As long as he's happy with M and ready to commit I could care less when he announces
BALTIMORE -- Two years ago, Derrick Green looked nothing like an invitee to The Opening. As a matter of fact, he didn't even look like a tailback.
Green, who now is 6-foot and 215 pounds, was once a 5-8, 268-pound offensive lineman. Suffice to say, Green, a running back from Richmond (Va.) Heritage who ranks as the nation's No. 83 player, worked hard secure his ticket to The Opening.
"I was always downhill," he said. "If you look at my film, I'm not really a bounce guy. I'm a one-cut-and-go, real straight, north-south runner and I have the speed to kick it up in sixth gear. All that bouncing and shaking, I wouldn't say that was me. If you're in the way, I'm going to blow you up. I'm not going to try to shake you.
"At my school, they call me 'The Freight Train.' I like that a lot. I'm going to run you over and let you know I'm here. I'm coming."
Green and his family said he has consistently run the 40-yard dash in the 4.3 area.
When Derrick read on a website that he didn't catch the ball well, father and son were outside working on pass-receiving for hours after work and school.
"He wanted to get better, so we had to take the time to get him better," Chris Green said. "The next camp he went to, they were saying he had hands good enough to play wide receiver. He accomplished that. He got over that hurdle."
Derrick led his family to better health, and he's also trying to inspire his teammates. He used to be the only player to run laps after practice. Now most of the team is joining him. When he gets his allowance, it's already spent. He buys food -- probably salad -- for the team on Wednesday evenings while they study game video. He takes his offensive linemen to Golden Corral if the team wins on Friday night.
Good article on Derrick. You can read it all here: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/7923008...
"At my school, they call me 'The Freight Train.' I like that a lot. I'm going to run you over and let you know I'm here. I'm coming."
We like trains at Michigan stadium.
I think Green just got himself #32.
D Train?
Wherever he ends up, he'll do well.
Is this website referenced by the Green family TTB? One could agrue that if he spent hours working on a perceived weaknesses in his offtime TTB is actually improving our recruiting classes.
http://touchthebanner.blogspot.com/2012/05/mini-scouting-report-derrick-...
No, TTB's scouting report was two weeks after the ESPN article was published.
Holy cow, dude was a sphere back then. To say he has gotten in shape would be the understatement of the year. What a turnaround to go from 5'8" 268 to the nation's #1 HS RB
Dang. Is he gonna get sanctions for paying high schoolers in meals?
He is not coming to Michigan because Hoke can't close...right? (sarcasm)
Seriously, just to put to rest some of the nonsense about that, part of me wants him to choose Michigan on Signing Day (HOKE CAN'T CLOSE LATE) by picking a Michigan hat instead of an Auburn hat (HOKE CAN'T WIN HEAD-TO-HEAD BATTLES) and then remind the country that running back is in fact a SKILL POSITION.
Fighting a losing battle my friend. We'll always find something to complain about. Next it will be "Hoke can never get 6'4" WRs from Utah on odd numbered days in January".
Won't you feel foolish once we flip Ammon Barker on monday.
when it's filled by a Freight Train.
Many sources said yesterday Michigan tops his list... Hopefully this is true.
I'll give that 3 fakes out of 5.
Rivals lists him as running a 4.4, while Scout lists one of his weaknesses as "breakaway speed", saying "not a conventional breakaway threat because of raw speed..."
Same people who said a state track and field champion, who ran slightly slower than a college Denard, was slow, after having run a different event shortly before.
I would give that 5 fakes out of 5, that is Denard speed... Green looks to me around a 4.5 guy, which is still fast for someone his size.
in the 2nd half of the army game, Green ran a toss sweep on a 4th and 2. I'll say this he looked plenty fast to me. Not that there is much difference between a 4.3 40 and a 4.4.
its time for Green to become a legend
#1? Braylon no like.
negged for #1 on RB
do we have an estimated date for when he does announce said knowledge?
He has said that he will announce sometime in January. That's as specific as it gets.
I don't know if the wolverine is the only one to break this story, but it usually bodes well for school X when their rivals site is the one breaking the news on omg shirtless guy
I'd like to think Michigan has this in the bag, but a 18 year old's mind can change at the drop of a hat. And I know he's wanted to play in the South.
But ohh, that offensive line he'd be running behind here....
In relation to the U P I have always thought of Ann Arbor as being in the south.
When it comes to Green, I like to remember the old Ziploc commercials: Yellow (technically Maize) and Blue make Green. Let's hope that Ziploc was right all along!
Michigan, He is coming to Michigan
I have a friend who's really good friends with his cousin
go ahead and say what you want
bury me in Bolivia if I am wrong
Based on the time you posted this I'd say there's no chance you're wrong
We're all assuming he's Blue at this stage. We just want him to make it official so we can overreact about the next big recruit thats on Coach Hoke and company's radar befor NSD.
You know what happens when you AssUMe.
Would you be willing to AVPBCI it?
Ok BK
running OMG shirtless during the Army bowl? Probably made Thomas Gordon and Marvin Robinson envious.
he should go to north texas
Erric Pegram agrees.
I had to Wiki that name. The nickname mean green could have dual meanings if he played there
To Kokomos??!!
/saginaw'd reference
That place is awesome!
The McRib is back!!!!
consumed my first ever McRib yesterday, already craving another
oh and WOO, please committ Derrick
I'm just wondering how you unofficially consumed your previous McRibs...
By not posting about it on Mgoblog. Not official until the Mgoboard knows about it.
The few times that he does really break away, he does seem to have decent speed for such a big guy (and certainly faster than Deveon Smith). 4.3ish speed? Eh, I don't see it unless the competition he plays against is so good that they can just make him look slower by comparison. However, he does have very good acceleration. Once he sees an opening, he gets up to top speed very quickly to me. He can make a move in traffic as well, but he doesn't make the open field Reggie Bush type cuts that you often see out of top flight RB recruits. He tends to just head straight up field. His running style does seem very mature. Overall, I'd be increadibly pleased with him at UM. I do think he is the most complete and explosive back we would have on our roster, not to mention a completely college ready body.
I somewhat agree, which is why I'm not as high on him as others. I don't think he's the type of guy who can carry a team on his back without a good offensive line. There are guys who can create on their own because of their speed, vision, and cutting ability, and he's not one of them. It sort of confuses me why Rivals thinks he's the #1 back in the country.
HOWEVER, I do think that if he committed somewhere like Alabama, Michigan (with the line it's building), or Wisconsin (with the way they've blocked in recent years), he could have a very good career like Montee Ball.
Is he the most talented pure running back in the nation? Not in my opinion, because there are several guys I'd put above him. Could he end up having the best college career? Possibly, if he chooses the right school.
The carry the team on his back reference reminded me of this. I'm not going to embed it because some users probably wouldn't appreciate the language in it, but I think it's hilarious.
Hold ma dickkkkkk
Lacy for Bama - very solid player who can leverage a good line. Strong, relatively fast, single cut, some wear on the D after 15+ carries.
Ultimately, we need a Hurd or Mixon to complement a Green and fully stress the D.
I like Ty Isaac, but the blocking was terrible in the Under Armour game. The offensive line was much better in the Army Bowl. Plus the production of the UA game was so terrible that it made it even more difficult to get a gauge on Isaac.
That is all. I hope.
