Derrick Green Interview - Iowa Week

Submitted by MJ14 on

I look forward to seeing what he'll do this week against Iowa. Love Green as a player and I think he'll be great for Michigan. It's nice to see how respectful he is to the reporters as well.

He knows all the right answers. And he can't help but be honest sometimes, about running over the safety and dropping the weight as examples, Go Blue and Go Green!! That confuses me.....

this guy sounds like an intelligent player.  every question was answered perfectly, it was uncanny how well DGr understood every question, thought about it, and replied back with exactly how he felt (or at least how it was portrayed was straight up)

wow i am crushing this michigan line - i dont care what anyone says.  this interview proves we will win.

you don't want to take too much away from an interview, but I'll say that listening to Green, he just sounds like the type of player we want on this team: respectful, confident, team-focused.  He gives a good interview.  Good for him.

I might be off here, but as I recall, there were numerous articles written during fall camp about how this is something the staff was hoping Fitz would do - become an on-field leader and a mentor for the younger RBs on the team. Glad to hear that it is indeed an active process and that Green is benefiting from it.

Derrick Green interviews well, I think. Very team-oriented, it seems.

I like Green's power running. It will be interesting to see if Green or Fitz will do better against a bigger IA DL. Hopefully Borges spreads it out, no I formation. You could see improvement in OL against NW, may be the confidence will roll over against IA?

I know that freshman lacrosse players had to take media training during their first few weeks on campus, learning how to talk to reporters and learning about building their personal brand for how they want to be known.  I'm sure the football guys are even more prepared and likely practiced.

This game will be bloody knuckles and bloody noses. This is the type of game our Defense can really dominate (as long as they double that behemouth of a TE they have). That should give our offense plenty of chances to establish some tempo and move the ball. I really like when this team passes to open up the run. I believe that we need to do what is best for this particular team as opposed to running what we think we should become in the future. It's ok that we're not there yet, given the drastic transition from midget-ninjas to hulking mass. Go Blue!!!

Very happy that Green has "turned a corner".  I can see a bright future for him at stadium and main.  When the OL gets on the same trajectory its going to be a nice ride.  The duo of Smith and Green is going to be a heck of a gut punch to some other teams, especially when you can bring in a fresh guy off the bench late in the game, and kudos to Fitz's coaching to get these guys going the right direction.

Let your play do the talking.  Let's be honest, he has not had much opportunity.  Happy to see in the NW game he seemed to keep his head up a little more and look for the holes and the cuts.  Keep improving Derrick.

One group was saying "WTF, there's no way he should be carrying that kind of weight" and the other group was saying "Who cares, he's always been big, the coaches obviously are OK with it, and he'll be fine."

I chatted with him before he picked a school, great kid. His parents moved with him to AA, best of all he likes to lead rather then follow and would rather go to church then party. Actually best of all he was a tressell fan and had an offer under him but urban pulled it, he has a chip on his shoulder towards OSU. He may not get back this year but I see him being a nightmare for urban in the future.

I met Derrick and his family outside of the stadium after a game. I asked him to pose for a pic with my kids and he was great about it. I told him he was going to be great for us some day and he gave back a "thank you Sir" with a smile. We chased him down for a pic with my other daughter and he was great again. Fine young gentleman.

He is going to be very good.  Keep giving him the ball for the remainder of the year so we have something pretty solid to build on next year.  If he has a decent game on Saturday, he might breakout agsint OSU.

Someone suggested the line may pick it up a notch when Green is in the game as opposed to Fitz, based on things like chemistry, personality, and a back they have more confidence in.

Based on the kind of guy he seems to be here, you wonder if they are on to something.
