Aside from the QB battle currently ongoing, this seems pretty close to reality. What's the problem?

I feel like it would've been a larger announcement than just an mlive quick little post, so I'm not sure. On the otherhand, it looks pretty dead on at nearly every position as far as what I expected it to look like.

I mean, Depth Charts are pretty meaningless. It could all get torn up and reshuffled after the next two practices. But as far as a snapshot of right now, it seems somewhat reasonable.

From everything I've read, the starters look 100% correct - except for Steven Threet, who I think will be the backup QB.

Zirbel should obviously be removed from the two-deep, since he's gone for the season.

Kinda surprised to see Stonum as a starter.  Also kinda surprised that neither Shaw nor McGuffie cracked the two-deep but Odoms did and that Threet is listed as the starter over Sheridan after everything I had read about Sheridan looking better in practice.

It is not remotely surprising that Brown and Minor are above Shaw and McGuffie. Also, this isn't written in stone, and is likely a single blogger's stab at our depth chart.

for an MSM chart, its as accurate as you'd expect. shaw & mcguffie don't quite make the 2deep b/c they are tweeners and the MSM never accounts for that stuff. also, the injuries aren't accounted for (lolmsm again). the least they could have done for QB is put OR and bold both names. but using the word 'or' and adding a few names would be too thorough for the msm.

see how Hemingway is behind Babb and Savoy, that has to be a mistake.

I think Stonum would be better starting in the slot than Clemons based on speed/agility.

Anyone know the deal with Mike Cox - I think he is the only frosh that has not been mentioned once during the offseason.

I sort of shocked that the Freshmen appear over Brown and Minor. And this was released by Rich Rod, according to Rivals.

I don't know if that means that Brown and Minor have been struggling because of the injuries or if McGuffie and Shaw are really that good. Hope it's the latter but I don't know. I'd rather have Minor in there than the freshman, at least he's been there before.

We'll just have to see I guess. Depth chart could always change before gametime.

Rivals has the 2 deep up - for RB all 4 guys have an "or" listed.

The thing I have to wonder is if Savoy (who IIRC was a pretty decent recruit) was in the doghouse - because I only remeber him playing in garbage time and now all of a sudden he is a starter over Clemons and Hemingway who as true frosh last year probably got more PT than he did.

Also interesting of note is that one backup CB spot is Boo-Boo "or" The Doug Dutch Bus.

FWIW, Rivals thinks that the defensive backfield situation COULD be difficult to put on a depth chart. Essentially:

Trent and Warren at CB, Brown and Harrison at S. In nickel situations, Harrison would slide down to play the 3rd corner, while Stewart takes his spot at Safety. Booboo would be the dime.

I trust RichRod knows what he's doing.  It's still a total 180 from the previous staff in how open they are.  I love seeing Shaw and McGuffie on there though.  RR wasn't kidding when he said the best players would play if he's going to start possibly 5 freshman.  I'm psyched for Saturday.

I'm thinking the same thing as you with Dutch being in the Lloyd doghouse - but I'm almost sure he didn't play  in the rose bowl.  His only offensive stats are from the '05 NIU, ND, and IU games.
