"Denarding"

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

This isn't really OT because it's about Denard, but forgive me for sharing a story...I know these types of threads clutter the board.

ANYWAYZ...

Last night I was down for a visit at the Orange Bowl (talk about no defense) and I spent most of my time on the WVU sideline.

I noticed all night the guys were doing the Denard Robinson "we eating":

I asked Tavon Austin what they were doing (like I didn't already know) and he said "WE EATIN! You seen Denard Robinson at Michigan? They hungry, we're hungry too! WE EATIN!"

I've seen guys at Oregon, Oklahoma St. and a bunch of other schools doing the same thing this bowl season. I think it is pretty cool that Denard and the guys at Michigan started a college football trend as if they were pop stars. Every game I turn on I see someone mimicking Shoelace, Tay and the guys in Maize and Blue...has anyone else noticed?

...oh yea, and before I forget "COOL STORY BRO!"

I said that they started "a trend"...not that they invented it. Just like Tebow didn't invent praying to your Lord and Savior after scoring a touchdown or before a big FG. Or some nameless knucklehead didn't invent laying like a "plank" on two random objects.

I just thought it was cool that they're getting credit for the trend and for how players are currently celebrating in college football.

It's 2012, NOTHING is orginal...what I'm saying is it's cool that Denard is getting "credit"

Is Tebow the first to bow on one knee and say a prayer? No. I used to do that in 6th grade football...and I got it from someone I saw in the NFL. But somehow it's called "Tebowing."

Listen the OP did not say that Denard invented this, but he was the first high profile guy in college football to do it and got a lot of attention in the process. I think its a cool ass story that Austin, one of WVUs best players, singled out Denard. They sure looked hungry last night, btw.

Just to put this rumor unequivocally to rest:  I started this trend and I was literally hungry and eating.  People saw me eating and it just caught on like wildfire.

the Florida State-Maryland the night of the OT Braylon show at MSU.  Got tickets outside the stadium for less than face to sit in the Seminole section, and am permanently scarred by the 'tomahawk chop' ever since.  25 times in the second quarter ALONE.  Seriously.

Denard did not start the trend, but with the exposure of the OSU game many people now associate it with him. Pretty cool other teams reference Michigan to this tho.

Let's cut the OP some slack, it is kind of a cool story. Who cares that Denard didn't start the trend, he's the one who made it so popular. And before you ask, no I don't care that this has been discussed before. So in other words:

I can't look up the video of the famous Raji TD from work, but I think the moves were very similar. For a nose tackle, the guy undeniably has innate talent as a choreographer.

I will say, I saw Denard make the gesture from my seats at the Ohio game and I enjoyed it, and it's actually pretty cool that it is catching on.

I'm glad WVU decided to go all Bob Huggins on Clemson, break records and score 35 in the 2nd quarter...I really don't like either team, I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity and see a BCS Bowl Game which was definitely a good time.

So it turned out to be extremely fun just because I'm a fan of college football. While the quick chat with Austin was pretty cool, especially because he was talking about Denard and Michigan (which by the way, a lot of those guys seem have a lot of respect for Michigan...I was speaking to another player or manager (he wasn't dressed) later in the game and I told him I was from Detroit so my team is Michigan and he said "those boys up there were playing this year...they're tough. That boy Denard, he's niice, I like Michigan.")

I guess when you're up 40 and scoring like you're the Point-A-Minute Fielding Yost offense, you can chat with random people standing on the sideline in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

And you know what the best part was...all those random quick sidebar convo's on the sidelines...not ONE mention of Rich Rodriguez. No ONE. If only our board could forget about Rich Rod so easily.

This is kind of like that aerial side bump thing everybody does after a touchdown. I know they didn't start it, but it seemed like after I saw Arrington and Manningham do it, it seemed like it spread like a wildfire.

It's that he made it big. Ford didn't invent cars, nor were they the only one making them. But they didn't get big until they did it. It's the same with black shoes and long shorts with the Fab Five.
