What I thought denard had no chance at playn qb??
When your starting quarterback is Blaine Gabbert, even the punter is a potential option to take some snaps.
When Blaine Gabbert is your QB, your punter does take a lot of snaps.
With an open points system, both Blaine Gabbert posts would be in triple digits by now.
But I told them no amount of dark magic could make them any good.
But dilithium magic....that is something else altogether. Or so we hope.
Have we given up on that every coming back? Disappeared shortly before I showed up so I missed the shenanigans.
Brian said he'd be making the change back at some time during this offseason... then again, I'm pretty sure he said something similar last year and nothing happened.
That's what I was thinkin. I've been hearing the MgoRumors about it for about 2 years. Wasn't it a system crash or something that originally caused the change to the current system?
Malwarefest 2011. I survived, barely. For a while, t-shirts were rumored, but never came to be.
When Blaine Gabbert is your QB, I'd estimate that your punter has a pretty good chance of taking about a quarter of your snaps.
Trick plays/running the zone read I'm sure. If they're serious, Denard will see 5-10 snaps/game MAYBE at QB.
Blaine Gabbert isn't very good and Chad Henne isn't great either. IMO, there probably isn't a team in the league where Denard would have a better shot at seeing time at QB than Jacksonville.
Henne has shown he can put together a good NFL game, but he needs to loosen up. Late last season, he even played pretty well for the Jags, when he seemed to take the field with a bit of a shrug and a "why the hell not" attitude. The guy just needs to Rex Grossman-up his game a bit (don't we all).
Chad has always been a low key guy.
Sometimes I struggle to remember seeing him EVER talk.
I think you meant rad, not bad. It's a RAD moustache for Henne.
If you put about 40 pounds of fat on Henne, he would be a lot like golfer Jason Dufner, who inspired the golf meme of "Dufnering" when he fell asleep at a PR function.
I have no idea what fandango or that salsa dance is, but the music with chad's expression goes great together.
Get Dilithium the ball... Let's see what happens!
Denard in the NFL is a big question mark right now. It would be kind of crazy if the Jags didn't even try him back there, especially given how their QB play is apparently going:
Worst day of QB play I've witnessed at Jaguars practice in years -- and that's saying a lot. ... O-line not much better
— Mark Long (@APMarkLong) May 15, 2013
Does that include Denard though?
I don't actually know. The guy's twitter feed doesn't mention Denard at all, even though he does call out Gabbert and some of the deeper back-ups.
him getting put in as all else fails and getting savaged by opposing Ds.
When you get drafted by Jacksonville, you are asked to try every position before they settle on one.
"Asked after the session whether that makes Robinson a “quarterback” or a “Wildcat” option, coach Gus Bradley laughed and said, “We don’t have to tell you,” according to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union"
I assume that, even in Jacksonville, the starting QB job would be Gabbert's to lose despite the numbers, but you can't blame Gus Bradley for trying to figure out how many volumes he can add to the offensive playbook because of Dilithium. It really would be fun to see him take some snaps as an NFL quarterback in addition to his other duties, even if it is purely situational.
He needs the practice at RB/WR; the Jags are wasting his time trying him at QB. I wish him well, but that is not where he has an NFL future.
I would agree with you, assuming they're trying him out as a regular QB. But I wouldn't be surprised if the coaching staff just said, "hey, our new rookie RB was a starting QB for the past three seasons, let's make him run some zone reads or something."
Either way, this hasn't been posted yet, and so I'm posting it now to represent your reaction to the Jags' practice time management:
Two guys, one hand-to-mouth move.
Not like henne's not capable of 5 int games. Who knows what they'll do?
but Jacksonville trying Denard as a NFL QB is similar to us having a Sheridan-Threet battle at QB back in 2008. It didn't bode well for us, it doesn't bode well for the Jaguars
Yahoo Sports Article on Denard:
... did they make him tie his shoes :-(
I guess its good to see he's getting the chance to show what he can do, but its probably not in Denard's ultimate best interests to work snaps at QB unless its some basic Wildcat options. I love Denard, but if he couldn't cut it as a passer at the college level, he'll get eaten alive trying to be one in the NFL. If I were the head coach, get Denard as many snaps at punt/kickoff return, running back and in the slot as you possibly can. That's where he will be the most effective.
The Jags best option at QB at this point is just to survive one more year with Gabbert, dump him after the season, and then go all in on someone like Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel, Tajh Boyd or maybe AJ McCarron in next year's draft.
Re-sign Henne to a long-term contract, in two seasons draft Gardner, then you run what I call the Cerberus package (or the Wolv3rine, but that's going to be hard to call in from the sideline - "Wolve-three-ine" I guess?): Henne lines up at QB, Gardner at WR, and Denard at RB. Quadruple flea-flicker throw-back screen to Henne streaking down the sideline.
You, sir, are a genius. I want whatever Kool Aid you're drinking.
Not sure using the word "streaking" is too accurate where henne is concerned, unless he's taken his clothes off at some point during the play.
What was that? I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of all this scoring.
the Wolver-three-ne package.
Isn't Denard's arm still hurting? I was under the impression that nerve injury is still an issue. Would they reclassify him as a QB without an expectation of him throwing the ball on occasion?
I don't think they're reclassifying him, he just took some snaps at QB. They probably have some designed runs for him or something.
has gotten Henne'd before.
There is always Tom Brady.
Given that there are only 32 NFL teams and significantly more than 32 college football programs, I think having even one starting QB in the league is pretty solid. Possibly two starters, if Gabbert shits the bed again. Henne has shown flashes of starter-material over the years. He's not going to lock anything down for any significant amount of time, but he's good enough to hold on to the job if Gabbert blows it.
I guess you draft the guy to see the field however possible, but if he's giving legitimate heat on Gabbert, that speaks to how poorly Blaine is playing. I love Denard as much as the next guy, but he's just not built to be a great pure NFL QB. That said, he can definitely be a situational player under center and I fully expect him to be a good slot receiver/third-down back.
It does look like he's recovering from the nerve damage. If so, it would be foolish not to include at least some plays with him at QB.
I'm really glad to see Denard recovering. Regardless of where he plays in the NFL, he put everything he had into his time at Michiagn and I will always respect him for that. My biggest complaint while watching him play was that he didn't slide/go out of bounds enough; he always wanted the extra yard. Best of luck to him at QB, RB, WR or wherever.
I just wanted the kid to recover. To not have feeling in your arm/fingers has to be terrible.
I'm glad he's healing. Hopefully he hold on to a beer or 2 in his old age. One of the greatest feelings in the world.
Here is a wild guess: He will never be full time QB and does more Wild Cat/spread sets in the NFL. It's out there, but I just have a feeling.
is that he's the next Desmond Howard on punt and/or kickoff returns. Those postions get him the ball in space easier than any other. Best of luck no matter what they do with him...I believe he will make it in the NFL as a returner though.
Well, hopefully this upcoming season he's classified as a QB, RB, WR in fantasy football leagues...he'd be available in very late rounds in my SEC homer league. Not a bad potential wild card guy if he's really going to see 10-15 touches per game. Plus, DILITHIUM.
But he's not an NFL QB...
Sure, he can run some Pistol Read-Option stuff, but if you're epecting him to line up and drop back, that's not him.
What I do think he is...is one HECK of an NFL player. Not a gimmick RB/WR. I think he's a legit NFL weapon that should be on the field every (offensive) down in different spots on the field.
Put him at RB, FB, WR, Slot and create matchup nightmares for defenses.
I think we have to get past this notion that the only "slash" players have to be QB/WR. Where you take the QB off the field to allow the runner to come on. History has shown that DESTROYS rhythm.
But what if you keep the QB on for every down (at QB), and you have the "slash" player bounce around at other positions?
QB is really the only position in football where you don't come off the field. Probably some OL. Everyone else is used to going in and out. So as you spell players, slide Denard in that position for a down or a series.
Also, if he's an every down player. The threat of him throwing the ball becomes even greater.
Wherever he lines up, I predict Denard will prove himself one of the most valuable 5th round picks of all time.
