Denard set to break a huge Michigan record.

Submitted by Nosce Te Ipsum on

With all of the negativity around these boards (and redundant posts) I thought it would be a nice change of pace to post something amazingly positive. At this moment Denard Robinson is only 531 yards shy of tying Tim Biakabutuka's single season rushing record of 1,818 yards. He needs 133 yards a game (if we only play four more) to break it with a few to spare. Denard is 207 yards shy of breaking the record for rushing yards in a season by a QB as well. When we beat our next opponent that will give him one more game to accomplish those feats. Our season may not be going the way we would all like but we are witnessing all-time greatness.

True, although I'd hope that in the coming years we can get more production from the RB position such that Denard doesn't have to carry such a huge load every game.  I'd love to see Denard's rushing stats decrease significantly as a result of big numbers being put up by Fitz or Dee Hart or someone else yet to emerge.

I'm so used to him being the only productive runner this year............I agree in that I would prefer more balance in the backfield, allowing Denard to get his yardage, but not having to rely on that aspect of the offense.

Really, the RB position is the only real weak spot on the offense, which I tend to forget since we're putting up 400-500 yards a game already.

I have to add to your post that it will take a healthy Denard in 2011 and 2012 and Rodriguez as coach . . .  I am very afraid of Denard not sticking around if Rodriguez is gone.  All that has already been hashed out but I'm still scared:  [Insert photo of Lloyd Christmas in the bathroom stall after Sea Bass assults him]

He's a sophmore. When our defense becomes existent again next year or the following, we're going to be awfully hard to beat. Look out Saban, we're coming for you.

Thanks MGoShoe. I haven't read any of his diaries on the subject. Appreciate it. +1

I also noticed that Cam Newton is fairly close to Denard and he might be able to play in an extra game. If Denard had 14 games he would undoubtedly break 2k.

Says someone who calls out posters for making mistakes in their posts but makes the same mistakes he degrades?

If you use A in definitely then you're definitely an A-Hole.

Isn't that ridiculous?

Fouls? Penalties.

It's not that hard to find people making mistakes on here. Thanks for the try, though.

I didn't think that his thread was really all that great because he just posted how Denard led the nation in rushing. In my thread I said and did what you've been doing in your diaries (although not even close to as in depth). His was, "Denard is leading in rushing". I knew someone would bring this up. I don't feel bad about it. Everyone on here has been a hypocrite with their posting at one time or another.

Communist Football is not including a bowl game. Unless DRob does not play a significant amount of time in some of the remaining games due to injury, he is going to end up extremely close to 2,000 yards rushing (and might even hit it) if we go to a bowl game. He is averaging over 160 ypg and his three lowest yardage games to date are 84 (MSU), 104 (UMass) and 105 (IA, in which he only played two quarters). Assuming Wisky and OSU each hold him to his low of 84 ypg and he hits his average of 160 ypg for the other three games, DRob will have 1,935 yards rushing by the end.

You must be referring to a Big 10 record for rushing yards in a season by a QB, because the previous UM record for that was 674 yards by Steve Smith. I would guess DR surpassed that in his fourth game, if not earlier.

Regardless, it's a shame how this tremendous achievement has been lost in all the uproar over our poor defense in the last three losses. It seems like ages ago already that Denard was being mentioned as a serious Heisman contender.

Actually, Denard already broke the Big Ten record for QB rushing in a season, and he's well in reach of the NCAA FBS record. This is from the record-keeping guru, Communist Football:

I am going to mention this one again because it is astounding: Denard last week broke the Big Ten single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback. The previous record was held by Antwaan Randle El of Indiana, who gained 1,270 yards in the year 2000.

Denard is 224 yards away from the NCAA record, set by Beau Morgan of Air Force in 1996. While it's not inconceivable that he could break that record next week, Purdue is the most likely setting.

It's nice to read a thread that's about football and not who's coaching the team or reactions to sanctions, etc.   Not that those things aren't relevant or important, but it's nice to focus on the game for a while.

The record I'm most interested in is the NCAA record for rushing yards by a QB.  The D IA record is a little under 1,500 yards by Beau Morgon IIRC.  The NCAA record is about 1650.  I think that Denard will get it and he'll become the first member of the 1,500-2,000 club.  He might be joined in that club by Cam Newton later in the year.
