That too sucked. But understanding that he at least left for gauranteed Yankees millions made some sense. Shazor, Warren, and Manny left with no gauranteed money and all went through the draft process with $0.00 in their pocket Drew ended up with some cash in his bank account. The others did not.

Coming up on my fourth year as an MGoBlog enthusiast, I've often wondered why the commenting practices here don't mirror that of reddit.  What makes reddit such a fascinating place is being able to read all the funniest/well informed/most important comments which are ranked and sorted based on public opinion.  There are sometimes grumblings on The Board about the days of yesteryear when posbanging and negbanging existed, and if this is what I'm requesting for then I apologize for bringing it up once again.  I feel like it would really enhance the community here and, at the same time, take care of the trolling and flamebaiters without as much manual labor (yes, reading can be laborious!) from the mods.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, it seems like one everyone will check out but no real news will be added to it.  I'm still 20pts or so short away on my legitimate account from starting a thread (and figured if it's really that important someone more prestigious than I am can start the thread for me).  Please feel free to comment away, or not, I'm just curious if anyone else would like to see this improvement sometime in the future.

Why not just post this with your normal account? This is a drupal-powered board. That means that Brian enables modules and gets that functionality as-is. If the functionality is not there (it probably exists somewhere) then he can't enable it.

That said, Reddit and Digg's comment systems are good for their sites' purposes, but there is a lot more discussion that goes on here than what you would normally see on those sites. So, if they were to enable it, it would probably have to be a setting.

The other issue with it (maybe it's more of an issue with the communities), is that posters tend to comment to get the most votes instead of contributing. A lot of people complain about the new voting system not allowing unlimited points, but this system seems to limit trolling better than the old system, which is the whole purpose.

I used a new account simply because if I broke any of the written or unwritten rules (which I'm sure I have considering the respectful, no nonsense-ness of the site) I didn't want to ruin my credibility for the future. Nothing more to it than that. And I could have emailed Brian directly but I'm more interested to hear other people's opinions on it before taking it up the ladder .

Those are some good points though, I didn't think about the quality loss that occurs on reddit and digg with their systems, which have absolutely massive communities and therefore exponentially more trolls and pointseekers. If we ever adopted it, I have faith that the 95% of users who are here to contribute would continue to do so regardless.  It's not really unlimited points on reddit (can't speak to digg) as each user can upvote or downvote a post only once.  I think it'd be a cool thing to try during the summer when things are naturally slow but I know implementing the framework isn't as each as click-click-click-publish.

Yeah, I just saw the news on the Espn ticker on Audibles or whatever the show is called.  Definitely scared the mess out of me when I read the first part of the news "Denard has entered papework for the NFL Draft..."  Haha so much so that I created this i.d.  I've been an MGoCreeper for over a year now.  Great stuff

On a sidenote, Robert Griffin III succeeding at the next level would improve Denard's draft stock to a degree next year as well.  I really hope that he continues the progress as a passer. The last two regular season games definitely looked to be a step in the right direction.

He had 179 carries this year. That's almost 14 carries per game. He is a quarterback that runs, i.e. a running quarterback.

That said, Denard is nowhere near where RGIII is as a passer this year. However, I've been saying since Hoke was hired that Denard would have a rough start and would progressively get better through is first year, then be remarkable in his second year in the system. I still believe that and I think Denard will throw for near 4,000 yards next year. His TD:INT ratio will improve (almost certainly not 6:1). If Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, RG3, and Michael Vick are all tearing it up next year and Denard improves as much as he should, there might be a team willing to take a chance with him. If he goes this year, someone will take him as a potential Percy Harvin/Devin Hester type of player.

Run first vs. Pass first is designated by the offense. Player type is comes from physical characteristics and it's not an either/or. You can have a running back that weighs 220+ and runs a 4.3 40 and he would be designated a power back if he played for Wisconsin or a speed back if he played for Oregon.

Denard is a running QB because of the offense that RR ran while RGIII is a Passing QB (in your eyes) because he is in an offense that utilizes the dowfield pass a lot more. Denard is in an offense much more similar to what Baylor runs now. If Denard were to throw for 4000 yards next year and run for under 1000, would you suddenly not consider him a running quarterback? Cam Newton is passing about 4 times more than he is running in the NFL now. Is he no longer a running QB?

I believe that if RG III has success, Denard will benefit from it for a # of reasons.  Like the poster above mentioned, the NFL typically prefers pocket passers.  The success of Newton, RG III and Vick before him, really has opened the eyes of talent evaluators and General Managers.  Not only does a mobile quarterback add stress to the defense, it takes stress away from the offensive line.  ~ Look at Vick in Philly.  That offensive line was pretty bad the past few years.  Vick's mobility has helped to cover that up, and creates extra time for his explosive wr's to get open down field. 

Also, RG III has a similar physical build to Robinson.  This alone could ease some concerns that Denard's frame would hold him back. 

Another point would be that both quarterbacks have spent the majority of their college careers in spread and spread -esque systems.  Granted, Denard isn't the passer of any of the aforementioned Quaterbacks YET, but I believe next year will be a big year for Denard becoming an all round quarterback.

RGIII completed 72.4% of his passes, threw for 37TDs vs 6 INTs, and averaged 3.9 yards per carry this season.  Unless Denard improves tremendously as a passer over the next year, I don't know why anybody would be thinking, "Ooh, I bet Denard Robinson could do that," while watching RGIII throw the ball in the NFL.

NFL general managers are ridiculously prone to being copycats.  When the Giants won a Super Bowl, everyone decided that defensive linemen were all that matter.  When Vick had his comeback, Cam Newton became a viable #1 pick.  The list goes on and on.

As irrational as it is, I actually think that it's true that RG3's performance (if he goes) will impact Denard's draft stock next year.  Denard has more work to do than RG3 in demonstrating that he's an NFL quarterback.  If he convinces people of that next season, he'll cross his fingers that RG3 has a stellar rookie year.

Having seen quite a bit of Denard being interviewed and the persona he takes on when doing so, I can picture this moment with absolute certainty of how Denard delivered the following quote.

 

"I was like, 'OK, put my name out there and see what happens and whatever happens, happens,'" Robinson said. "I thought it was a good idea, so I did it."
 

I wish we had the opportunity to see the Denard the team gets to see on a daily basis. The Denard that is bouncing off the walls and knows only one speed. We have gotten glimpses of it at the end of the season with the Denard "I'm hungry" romps to the sideline after another Meechigan touchdown, but I would like to see more.

Denard is a smart kid, never a doubt he was coming back. Some players recently file their paper work with a magic eight ball I think. Makes you wonder who is telling them what is in their best interest.

I think that Denard filed his paperwork as a way of seeing where others say he needs improvement. Also when and what positions he may be projected in. It seems that he likes the QB position and is hoping to move to the dame in the NFL. I am sure he has no real expectations on leaving early.

people in a position of drafting power also thought Ware and Leaf would be NFL quarterbacks.

DRob is growing; he is doing better each year.  He will continue to work hard and Borgess will provide him opportunities next year.  If he plays 2012 like he did at the the end of this season, he will get some looks.  Even if he grows dramatically, do I think he is a 1st year NFL starter?  No.  It will have to be a "right fit" deal.

All I know, I am so glad DRob is a Michigan Man.  He deserves opportunities and be rewarded for staying.  I say a trip to the 2013 Rose Bowl could fit well in his immediate future and a reward for sticking it out here.

still can't play QB. Winning masked his big weakness which is passing the ball. Once NFL figures out on how to defend Tebow, Tebow will go back to being irrelevant.  Beside most of the Broncos wins came against shitty teams or teams who has shitty offense which makes it easier for the Broncos to come back and win.  If the Broncos face a defense with a pulse, Tebow will crumble just like he did against the Lions.

Its pretty obvious that Tebow's problem is his mechanics.  

I know he's been working hard with the coaches on his footwork & delivery, but its still not NFL caliber.  Just look at the motion he uses; one leg goes out about 2 feet, the knee bends and touches the ground, hand to eyes, head bowed.  
But its not always the same knee that bends!  Sometimes its the right leg, sometimes the left, there's NO consistency.  The up leg is rarely at a proper 90 degree angle, and it's so s l o w.

Don't even get me started on the lazy elbow on the knee, is it helping to hold his fist in his eyes, is it integral to the supplication?  He's practically telegraphing his intentions and absolutely no one is surprised by it any more.  

Opposing teams have studied his film and are now to the point where the entire defensive line can cross themselves and be halfway through the Catholic rosary before Tebow's knee even touches the ground!  He's been exposed guys, it's totally amature hour out there with him.  
I'll tell you what, if Tebow wants to excel at this level he needs to really shake things up, and don't get me wrong he's got the physical skills, it's about mental discipline and creativity.  Maybe some sort of double knee drop-layed back-arms wide-ready for the rapture technique is what it's going to take to make it through the playoffs.  

My guess is that without a drastic change, Tim Tebow doesn't have a prayer in this league.

There are a lot of Juniors who file just to see where they will fit and an overall evaluation of their game. Gives them some idea of what they need to work on and what positions they may or may not translate to. It is actually a smart move for Denard to see what the NFL thinks of his game and his abilities. He does seem to offer an intangible with his personality and his leadership skills. Also his work ethic seems to be high.
