Denard Robinson launches The Shoelace Foundation

Submitted by justingoblue on

I saw tonight that Denard had started promoting his new charitable foundation on social media and thought I'd share a link with the board.

It looks like he has a free youth camp planned for 7/11/15 and is raising money to (among other things) provide needy children with a new pair of back to school shoes. I'd definitely recommend taking a look at the site and even finding ways to show some support for Denard. The store has tee shirts and hoodies and 100% of proceeds go towards the mission.

85 yards to the house!  That has to be one of my favorite plays of all time.

I was reading about the lack of separation at QB in the other thread and the uncertainty therein.  Damn, only if we could bring Denard back for one year to play RB.

I love seeing these former players try to give back to their communities. Vince, Tae Odems, and now this? Also, Devin's been involved with speaking some of the high schools in Detroit, so it's getting momentum, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Word of advice to whomever it may concern, though -- I know their site has been only live for a couple of days now, but I'm getting a lot of webpage errors. I'll see if I can contact their admin, but for now if a page errors out, as much as I hate advising this, just hit F5. You're essentially DoS'ing the site, but if you really, really want to see the page, that's how it's done.

Denard was a BRIGHT LIGHT during a tough time in Michigan Football. I don't know if I haver ever been more mesmerized and frustrated by a player. What I do know is he goes down as one of my all time favorite Wolverines. A worthy ambassador of U of M with a smile that lights up a room. Thanks Denard for all you have done and continue to do!

I always admired Denard for his attitude. He was consistently positive, humble, and worked his ass off for UM. Class act, gentleman, great athlete. One of my favorite athletes in any sport, at any time, and can't see anyone supplanting him.

He remembers his own childhood, and the child in him is still there in his smile.  (When it comes to Denard, we can allow ourselves to get a little schmaltzy.)
