So the all-time leading passing QB in Michigan history, and the all-time leading rushing QB in Michigan history are on one team. Go Jags.

Anyone else notice that the draft tracker for SI.com did not have an avatar picture for Denard? Take a look under their best available and scroll on down to Anthony Rashad White from little brother... Go on.. Take a peek...

Yar har, we've got some jokers here. Jaguars are on the rise, and those the city isn't as Amazing as say, Miami, it's still a nice, Southern town to start your career in. Plus the fact that the new coach and GM will have them steadily improving, and bringing in some good players.

I mean...Detroit natives insulting Jacksonville?

Don't make me laugh.

Regarding your last sentence, I'm assuming you meant pro football.

BTW, I think "crime, hidden racism and old people" can be said of pretty much any city in the world.

Northerners should stop acting like they live in some racially-enlightened paradise and that the South in still in the 19th century.  A lot of black people will tell you that racism is as bad - if not worse - in the North than in the South nowadays.  The most segregated metro areas in the U.S. are pretty much all in the Northeast and Midwest.

Congrats, Nard Dog! Now I will care about Jacksonville a little bit. Wish he'd gone to a better team with an immediate need for his skill set and not a tire fire.

It's been said in various places on the board, but it is worth repeating - any team which picked him up was getting a great athlete, a hard worker and someone who can step into a leadership role on a team. Anytime you get all three of these in a player, you've just upgraded. Like others, I will admit to having watched a handful of Jacksonville games before now, but as a Michigan fan, how cool will this be to watch Denard at the next level? Pretty cool, I think.

Congratulations to Denard Robinson!

Congrats to Denard! Would have loved to see if the eagles would have taken him with the next pick but it was also possible that he could have fallen further - this might not be a bad situation as it is his home state and the Jags need playmakers (lots if them) and he could make an impact at RB/WR or even KR/PR. Also the chance of a Henne/ Denard backfield would be awesome!

Not much of a fan of the Jags, but I'm glad he can say he was drafted into the NFL.

Hopefully, he will be able to make some better memories than the last time he was down there...

Way to go Denard !

(On Denard Robinson) "I've been watching that guy for as long as he's been playing. Every time I go to Michigan it just amazes me about how passionate he is about football, how loved he is at that school amongst his teammates and how he just goes about his business. You watch that guy practice and he has fun. Not only does he have juice on the field in terms of his speed and play-making ability but just juice in the building. You're going to love the kid. I've watched from afar for a long time. I got a call from Thomas (Dimitroff) and he's like, 'I knew you were going to end up getting him at some point in time,' because we talked about him in Atlanta and I was really excited about that pick."

Apparently, the Lions called Denard and told him they were going to be picking him with the next pick. Then Denard got the call from the Jaguars. That might explain his semi-awkward reaction. You never see the kid without a huge smile on his face....

And there's a video interview on the Jags' site where he's smiling a lot more.  As was the interviewer.  (Is it Eisen? It's taken from somewhere else, perhaps the NFL.com coverage, but it's obviously somebody from Michigan.)  When guy-who-may-be Eisen ends the interview with "Go Blue," Denard answers "Go Blue" and then quickly adds "Go Jags!"  Guy-who-may-be-Eisen's off-screen sidekick says to his partner, "You Michigan guys are so quick!"

Feeling better about his happiness both from that and the GM's interview quoted above (he's obviously followed DR intently), and feeling better about my happiness because I see the Jags are coming to play the Jets in preseason and I now have a reason to scout E-bay for an affordable ticket.

Brace yourself for the ups and downs of long-distance Jaguars fandom, heart. I'll put you on the shelf between Cleveland Browns fandom and absinthe.

Yeah, the Jaguars have been a crappy franchise for a while now, mediocre fanbase, etc. But there's a lot to like for Denard in this situation:

1) He gets to play fairly close to home, at least until the Jags' inevitable relocation.

2) The Jags are a team on the rise. Granted, they have almost nowhere to go but up, but hear me out. They have a new GM, Dave Caldwell, who's been a scout and player personnel guy in Indy and Atlanta, where he learned from two of the best GMs in the business, Bill Polian and Tom Dimitroff. Second, they've got a promising new coach in Gus Bradley, who's been coordinating Seattle's excellent D the past few years. And third, they had what on first glance is a solid draft -- they got their franchise LT in Joeckel, a guy who might turn out to be the best safety in this draft (Cyprien), and two dynamic playmakers in Ace Sanders (whose abilities we know very well from the Outback Bowl) and Denard.

3) It not only sounds like the GM is in love with Denard and has had his eye on him for a while -- it also appears the Jags want to play Denard at the position where a lot of people think he has the best chance to succeed in the league -- RB.

4) Another advantage to being on a (currently) crappy team -- Denard will be assured of getting the time he needs to switch to a new position and adjust to pro football. If he had gone to a team with more talent on its roster, he'd be under more pressure to prove his value on the field more immediately or risk losing his roster spot. That will not be a problem with the Jags.

are rightfully so, thrilled with the idea of having a player like Shoelace. I live in Jax and the local sports figure-heads are all the time on Denard. They're playing radio coordinator with so much "juice!" I caught myself just sitting in the driveway waiting for a commercial break, it's so great to hear. The city has just a little bit more pep in it's step with him coming here. Awesome! Capital 'A'!!!
