Sure, Jacksonville has the least fans in the NFL, and has been terrible in the last couple of years, but people forget just how truly awful the Lions are/have been: there is no comparsion - the Jaguars have a much more relevant recent history.

Lions: 1 playoff win since 1957

Jaguars: 5 playoff wins since 1996 (last one was in 2007).

Never forget -- the Lions have the worst on-field perfomance of any US team in the four big team sports over the last 50+ years. It's not a fun team to be "your" team, as any Lions fan will tell you.

Im really surprised and maybe even a little upset for the kid that it took this long. Tebow went in the freakin 1st rd and Pat White went in the 2nd. Denard is better than both...

And really don't like him but I do know he got the broncos to the playoffs and won a game. Plus he was one of the best college football players of his decade. Even if you don't like a dude you gotta give him his due. I always thought Jacksonville had every reason to gran him and give him a shot. What do they have to lose? One more game?

Tebow won a Heisman, had better passing numbers than Denard, scored more touchdowns, and took his NFL team to the playoffs as a QB.  Denard has to change positions because teams don't want him as a QB, and it's unclear whether he'll be a RB, WR, DB, or returner.  I think it's a little misleading/presumptuous to say that Denard is better than Tebow, although time will tell...

The dude's practices have become legendary for being so pathetic. Thats why the Jets never put him on the field, the Broncos traded him and the Jets cant get rid of him. I will give you his college resume, but his professional career is pedestrian at best save a few lucky wins...

Your original comment referred to Tebow's draft position, which would have been based on his college resume. It's not like the Bronco's drafted him in the first because they heard about his future practices with the Jets.

Also, to your original point, if Tebow and White were both not worth their 1st and 2nd round picks, why would a team turn around and Denard at a similar position? Doesn't your comment actually directly address why teams might be gun shy about picking Denard?

A) Teams knew Tebow couldnt play coming out of college thats why it was such a surprise when he was drafted in the first rd.
B) Denard was a much better playmaker as a runner than Tebow and slightly better than Pat White.
C) Denard made no beefs about playing QB unlike the other 2 which was suppose to improve his draft stock

You keep mentioning these failures that went early, and yet you seem to expect NFL teams to continue drafting the types of super-athletic guys high in the draft who have failed in the past.

Maybe teams are learning from their past mistakes and not wasting high picks on position-changing tweeners...

This is like arguing Dilfer vs. Marino.  Dilfer won a Super Bowl, whether you like him or not; Marino didn't win a Super Bowl, regardless of his stats.

Tebow had a better college career than Denard.  And despite the fact that he's a backup right now, he has a better NFL career to this point.  If Denard gets cut by the Jaguars and never latches on, Tebow will be a better player in just about every regard except rushing yards.

How did that work out for the Jaguars?

Some people's argument seems to be "Other physical freaks went in the first round and turned out to be shitty, so why can't Denard do the same thing?"  I don't know the answer to that.

Pat White was drafted by a team that featured the single wing/wildcat formation as part of their offensive attack and Tebow was one of the most decorated and successful quarterbacks in NCAA history. The gimmicky nature of the Wildcat makes Pat White look like a bad pick for the round he was taken, but to the Dolphins it made perfect sense at the time. As for Tebow, well...as of now he has won just as many division banner and ONE MORE PLAYOFF GAME for the Broncos than Peyton Manning. I'm not saying Denard couldn't have higher than thefifth round; a few years earlier he might have, based on the White/Tebow picks. But Denard may still have a bit of a wonky hand, too. I'm glad he got drafted and will play pro ball in his home state. I wish he could've been picked by a better team, but you've gotta believe that he'll have a better chance of making (and contributing) on Jacksonville's roster than most.

Great for Denard...gets to play close to his home where his family can see him.  Steal for the Jags in the 5th round.  Denard has top 2 round talent and will make a quick impact in the league.

Glad he went in the early fifth, rather than later as had been expected.  Don't see many Jags here in SF.  I was hoping the Niners would sack up and take him in the Fourth.

Jags are one of the worst run franchises in sports. Everything they touch goes to hell. Hopefully Denard can be the exception or they move to LA.

Who hired Mularkey, went 2-14, fired him and then just hired Gus Bradley.

There is also some stuff regarding one of his plants in Michigan, but that's not for this site.

Thank You!

I couldn't believe I made it so far down this thread without anyone pointing out how insane that clip is. The timing on him popping up is better than anything that could even be scripted.

This clip is going to get chopped up and will be everywhere within a few days. Denard is making his rounds on the viral circuit lately.

Also yes, I now cheer for the Jaguars?

I'm actually very glad he didn't end up with my team -- or the Browns, of course.

I started following JAX when Henne was drafted there, and now? I'm a full-fledged fan.
