Denard Robinson: Heisman Pose?

Submitted by DoctorDave on

In what appears to be the fortuitous conjunction of time and circumstance, University of Michigan student photographer Sam Wolson captured this prescient photograph:

I love it!!!!  But seriously, can we calm down with all the Denard and heisman talk.  It is a long season, with a lot more games.  I am as excited as everyone else, but let's not let this season blow up like last year.

I'll admit I looked. DR has half the rushing yards through two games that Tebow had in all of 2007, Tebow's Heisman year (and the year he lost to U-M in Lloyd's last stand).

That was a ridiculous year for Tebow though. Over 3,100 yards passing to go with approx. 850 rushing. Also averaged 2 TDs a game rushing, DR is at 1.5.

After all the turmoil and strife that our fan base, team, and coaches have gone through during the last this is not the tiem to calm down.  This is a great day and a great time to be a Michigan Wolverine.  Celebrating one of the greatest, if not the greatest, efforts by a Wolverine ever is exactly what what we should do.  We need to drown out the bad rpess with the good "Denard for Heisman" and such.  And the thought that us calming down would stop the season from "blowing up" like last year is silly at best.

Yeah, let's not injure ourselves celebrating, Grammatica-style. We can wait for Snyder and Rosenberg to do that for us this week: "New Year, same story: last-second win at ND means nothing because U-M tanked last year after a similar feat."

"Robinson can't hold up to this abuse" (Even though Crist went out first and should have stayed out. He couldn't see! That's the brain pain, coach! Malcom Gladwell scowls in your general direction.)

"Rodriguez is creatively fueled by his intense hatred of immigrants."

Just a great two weeks.  His stats will probably take a dip the next two weeks as the coaches limit his touches so that he'll stay healthy, but it is great to finally be on the good side of one of those impossible-to-tackle QBs.

..and who could have even mentioned a BT championship and win over OSU here two weeks ago without being laughed at?

Now, though I would imagine there aren't too many who think it will actually happen, I'm pretty sure that a lot more will at least admit the possibility.

D Rob looks to be an excellent young man as well as an awesome talent on the field!  it looks like he will be making UM fans excited about his onfield play for quite some time, however i believe he will make UM proud of Him as a student and person off the field equally!

Calm down people. We're 2 games into the seaon. Weren't some of you calling Tate a Heisman candidate around this time last year? Just chill out.

And here come the neg bangs for speaking the truth...

Tate played well last year and kudos to him for it, but NOTHING he did comes close to what Denard is doing.  Only 8 other QB's in D1 history have ever rushed for 200+ yds and passed for 200+ yds in a single game.

No Michigan QB has ever accounted for as many all-purpose yards as Denard did last week AND this week, and while UConn and ND were unranked they are not MAC teams or D2 schools either.

Sure, the B10 season awaits.  Sure, the rest of the team has flaws.  But this is no reason to stay calm.  RichRod's offense is working - that means his future is not in question at this point, which stabilizes recruiting, which upgrades every position, which gets us closer to being back to the place where rebuilding ends and reloading becomes a way of life.

Life is sweet and optimism - even wild optimism - is warranted.  Enjoy it!

I know that I am quite late to this thread - unfortunately my mother passed away on Sunday - but I just thought that I would post that this board entry was linked to in the Monday morning Hot Clicks by Jimmy Traina over at si.com in the Extra Mustard section.

That is all.
