Denard only needs 78 yards to break single season rushing record for QB!
Let the countdown begin! Denard needs just 77 yards to tie Air Force QB Beau Morgan's 1996 record of 1,494 yards. But I think we all know, once the dust clears this record is going to get smashed, only to be broken next year again by Denard. So U of M student section, organize the countdown during the Wisconsin game, and hopefully we will celebrate a broken record and Michigan victory Saturday.

He'll definitely break it, but will he finish ahead of Cam Newton? (Before Newton's stats are vacated, that is.)
November 17th, 2010 at 5:57 PM ^
He's 120 yards ahead of Cam Newton and both have 3 games left.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:01 PM ^
True, Newton gets to play in 14 games because of the CCG. Hopefully, Denard will get a 14th game as a Junior and/or Senior.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:03 PM ^
He missed 3 quarters vs Bowling Green, in which i'm convinced he may have hit 300 yards.
November 17th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
3 games for both? Are bowl games and championship games included? I realize it's a silly question, but that's always been confusing.
November 17th, 2010 at 8:00 PM ^
Yes, bowl games and championship games are included in official stats.
November 18th, 2010 at 9:19 AM ^
The real question is, can Denard catch back up to LaMicheal James? That would be arguably more impressive, as a QB has never led the NCAA in rushing yards.

Let's hope so.

joeyb, relax brah. the link I included is on topic, relevant to the thread and definitely not spam. let's keep it civil as we're all Michigan fans here.

Sorry brah.

All you did was provide a link to go somewhere else, without even bothering to add discussion to the thread here. Had you said something about the topic, and said something like "i've got an article here that goes into more depth..." it wouldn't be spam. But you didn't, so it falls squarely into the spam category.

Can you speak up? I couldn't hear you.

but he already had the caps lock ON. I'm just not sure how he could have typed any louder... wait... I see what you did there

I actually don't think he'll break this year's mark next year. Sure it's possible, he is Denard, but I see a healthier more experienced core of runnng backs returning next year taking more of the rushing load off of Denard's shoulders. Not just in terms of carries, but I see those RB carries resulting in more yards. Plus, Dee will likely see some time as well. A case could be made though, that Denard will have an easier time running with better RB play and could get more ypc.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:03 PM ^
Good points. I am sure most people including Denard think along the lines of: as long as we win more games, I don't care if Denard gets less yards!
November 17th, 2010 at 6:06 PM ^
I see your point, but Denard's QB Iso is too deadly to not use it next year. He might drop from 20 carries to 15, but his first step is what tears apart defenses.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:18 PM ^
Definitely, I'm just predicting that we'll see higher production from the running backs next year. Denard will still torch defenses with his legs, no doubt.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
312 yards for Denard on Saturday. That is 78 yards x four quarters = 312.
That seems about with his TD passing it will prob be much higher.
Whatever happens with the record, I am glad Michigan has a good player on and off the field in Denard.

It should be interesting. I don't know if Newton or Denard will end up on top this year, but I can't imagine Newton coming back for next year when he is taking so much crap (justified or not) this year. That means next year could be key, but it will depend on a few factors.
1. Will RR let him run as much early next year as he did this year? The entire offense will be more experienced. That will make it easier for him, but also create more weapons at his disposal. RR will probably want to keep him fresh for the entire season if he can.
2. How many extra possessions per game will an improved defense mean for Denard?
3. Will Denard share more time with Tate and/or Devin next season? RR may go to more of a multi-headed approach next year, especially against overmatched competition.
I hope Denard gets it this year, making next year moot. It doesn't matter much, though, because Denard doesn't care about his stats as long as they win. Next year, when they should be in contention for at least a title game berth, he will care even less, if that's possible.

It the NFL lockout happens then Newton will be back ( along with a ton of NFL ready juniors). That is if he is eligible.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:29 PM ^
hopefully for auburn they can afford the $$$ for next year if theres a lockout....
November 17th, 2010 at 6:48 PM ^
nah, by next season, auburn will be under some sort of NCAA sanctions
November 17th, 2010 at 6:39 PM ^
Any NFL lockout will take place several weeks after the NFL Draft deadline, so it probably won't be a factor. (I also think it's highly unlikely that a lockout would last very long.)

break it this weekend, but are passing game is going to be very important this week.We have the players to shred any defense including wisconsin.GO BLUE

Breaking the NCAA record is still conceivable (1,647 yards by a I-AA guy), but to do that, he's got to have one game as the "old" Denard. Even if he doesn't reach that number, it would be nice for him to become the first member of the 1500/2000 club. I thought for sure after the Penn State game that he would have done this by now.
