Mason NEEDS this, Pistons, after all you've put him through
Denard 3rd Team AP All-American
Posted this in the Rivals.com Freshman All-American Team thread cause I can't create new threads but it should be here, but the trend of Denard being listed as something other than a quarterback continues with the AP all american list. He's listed as the 3rd team All-purpose player. It seems like they think that he's to good to leave off the lists, but they view there are better "pure quarterbacks" than him.
A minute after this post went up.
You beat me to it. Congrats.
That probably came off the wrong way. Just thought that by reading your post you were pissed or somehow insinuated I stole your thread. Apologies. And +1 to you to help you on your way to being able to post here. Hail.
I don't think he is 1st Team as a QB. But if you're going to make him an all-purpose player, with the yardage totals he had, he HAS to be on the 1st Team, doesn't he?
F the all american
Come on, he's an All American as a sophomore. Can we not complain about anything?
Like... ok, I follow The Football ("both kinds... NFL and college") relatively closely. Can't name every starter on Oregon's second string D, but, pretty closely.
I have never, ever heard of the first team "all purpose player." Ditto the second. Are you telling me, given those three "all purpose" players, more voters wanted the 1st and 2d teamers ahead of Denard?????
W T F ??????
Man, if Denard were an AP voter, he'd dominate.
What about all the option QBs who have won Heisman Awards and A-As? Denard threw for more yards more accurately than many of them, and I never heard a debate over what position to list them as. If anything Denard is more of a QB than those guys.
As far as I'm concerned the QB is the guy who takes the ball of the snap. What he then does with it is irrelevant. But even if you say he has to throw, Denard wins that argument as well. These people aren't thinking straight...
The F are you going to put Cobb as 1st team all purpose player in front of Denard?
79 receptions for 955 yards and 7 tds.
52 rushes for 401 yards and 5 tds
1 return td
Passing: 155/250 for 2316 yards and 16 tds and 10 ints
Rushing: 245 attempts for 1643 yards and 14 tds
So basically Denard broke the all time NCAA record for rushing by a QB, beat Cobb by 17 tds and yet he is 3rd team?
Yea, the NCAA has no problems, sure.
I'm fine with him as an all-purpose back. Denard is a disruptive, terrifying offensive player who is only in his first year of starting at QB. I fully expect him to nab a couple more AA awards in his career, even if there is a predisposition against rewarding him as a QB.
Percy Harvin and Reggie Bush are All-Purpose players. Since Denard plays QB and QB only he should be awarded for his success at the QB spot. However, I'ld rather have Denard as a 3rd team All-Purpose than unlisted as a QB. I like to see Michigan players earn recognition even though I don't agree with the position.
Listed as an all-purpose player, how does somebody who shattered records left and right in relatively limited action
1. He gained a lot of yards, but didn't find the endzone enough. He accounted for 30 offensive TDs. Kellen Moore accounted for 34. Cam Newton accounted for 48 (!). Points are more important than yards.
2. The "relatively limited action" thing is kind of important. Denard constantly got hurt. Being able to play through the hits is part of football. When a guy misses as much time as he did, it has to count against him. No matter whom our coach is, I think it's imperative that we cut down on his carries next season. Denard took a beating this season.
Way to go Denard. Keep up the good work and keep working hard. I think you deserved something a little better, but being an All-American is an amazing achievement no matter how you look at it.
If Denard was slower, they'd call him a quarterback. Players with far worse passing than him have the privilege of being called quarterbacks, but because he's so good at running, nobody respects his ability to pass.
at least he made the team, but he should have been the QB of the 3rd team,or 2nd team!!!
(Offensive POY but not 1st or 2nd team All-b10 at qb) i'm not surprised at all by the results of this AP poll. I'm not pleased and I don't agree, but this is the AP, so we can't expect much from them especially when he's been "disrespected" within our own conference.
Greg Jones - All American - 98 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles
Jonas Mouton - 111 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble
I'm sorry... who's the All-American there?
