spoiler alert: i linked this
Patrick stewart is so much win....nice
Thanks for posting. One for the archives indeed. Pretty sure there were a few people on here calling for Demens to benched after Air Force. Dont they feel silly now.
Nice job. Demens made 2 really good plays on that series.
I want a celebration gif of Denard and Devin's handshake after the first TD.
If you can link me the video I'll gif it.
Did it look like, after they knocked their arms together, that Denard winced heavily and then couldn't move his arm much?
Let's not do that again boys....please.
At first, I thought the same thing - but seeing the replay, Denard reached down to catch the microphone/headset thingy that was knocked loose in the celebration. Not injury-related.
Anyway, if that kind of contact is going to make Denard wince in pain, we might as well right him off for the season. But again, I don't think that's what happened. I did see Wellman come over to him right after that though, maybe telling him to lay off the shoulder bumps for a while.
I didn't even realize how badly Jake Ryan had his guy and would've come in for the clean-up if Demens hadn't tackled so flawlessly. Dayumn.
Jake got chopped and i think would've been a step late to prevent the first down if demens weren't there.
This is why I sit on a couch and not stand on a sideline.
If you're going to hand off to the back plunging up the middle -- don't, uh, -- don't you need to account for the MIKE? I mean, like, assign a blocker to him? As in, I don't know, you know, make sure he's not COMING UNBLOCKED TO BLOW THE PLAY UP.
These football geniuses who get paid billions of dollars to design these high-efficiency offensive plays, they obviously know what they're doing, because I have no clue.
(No, really, I have no clue -- was that a schematic problem for the Cats, or, was Demens just outrageously blowing that up.)
We RPS-ed the shit out of that play. Can't put it on coulter or NW. We did our job on a coaching and execution level.
Man, all I think of when I see that is a song by Metallica's called whiplash! "Slashing all around, whiplash!"
We had a really funky alignment on that down, with only three down linemen spread way out on the line. I think we confused Colter into checking into a run, as he probably thought we were dropping our LBs into coverage.
Can someone make one of Pat Fitzgerald running around and jumping like an idiot?
That pisses me off so much more seeing it again.
Honestly, seeing that made me feel like Northwestern deserved to lose. Completely inappropriate behavior by Fitzgerald, thinking they were going to win. Obviously God agrees with me, thus Roundtree magic catch and Demens smash.
I love how he comes out with the little no-kneed waddle, then he stops, sets his feet and PEWWWWWW!!! Straight up, and his feet and arms shoot out like he's in a 1996 Toyota Corolla commercial.
I always kinda, if not liked the guy, at least I respected him. This is just asinine. What a douche nozzle.
And his vertical is weak....reminds me of James "Buddha" Edwards vertical leap.
wouldn't celebrate that enthusiastically/prepubescently had their team just won the ncg
To be fair to Fitzgerald, he was doing it sarcastically because he felt he was getting jobbed on the calls all game, in particular the Hawthorne holding on the kick return TD.
Also to be fair to everyone other than Fitzgerald, every penalty NW got was legit and he acted like much more of a whingey little bitch than I ever would've imagined a middle linebacker would.
I bet Griese took a little joy in the booth on that ending after the clips they showed during the game..
The Hawthorne holding flag on that KR TD was the least holdingest of the 4 holds I saw when Griese and Pasch spent the entire replay looking for the hold. The holds started 25 yards or so earlier than the flag Hawthorne drew.
when her aunt invited her to Disney.
I normally like Fitzgerald, but that was incredibly douche. It wasn't happiness with a great play as much as a personal foul penalty on his QB. His team didn't "do" anything right other can get hit out of bounds.
I had the same exact thought. I'd like to request a gif of Fitzgerald putting two fists to the sky like a jackass as if he won the game after the Beyer penalty.
1) The penalty was Beyer's fault and he shouldn't have put himself in the situation to be called for a late hit.
2) As a HC, how do you celebrate your QB getting hit THAT quickly?
3) I love Greg Mattison but I felt that today's defense was the least dicplined I'd seen all year.
That was one of the most inappropriate and obnoxious things I've ever seen a CFB coach do on the sidelines. He jumped like Phil Mickleson did when he rolled in the winning putt at the Masters, not because NW won, or even scored, but because Michigan got called for a weak ass penalty.
Act your age Pat.
The guy next to me asked who was the jackass jumping up and down. I said it was their coach and he just shook his head in disbelief.
Not defending Fitzgerald here, but that was hardly a "weak ass penalty." Beyer deserved that flag.
late hit out of bounds penalties only get called based on how violently people fall over. When they don't trip, no flag. If you are pushed into them and they trip over some stray chair, 15 yard penalty for you
I know, it was a good call, I just don't like Fitz. He was a very good player, and is a great coach -- but he's a d bag, and I wanted to emphasize his douche baggery.
Beyer was stupid, and I hope the coaches got all over him as he nearly cost his team the game due to a lack of discipline.
More inappropriate than a head coach punching a kid in the neck ?
Or how about when he threw his hands in the air like his team just won the National Title after the late hit by Beyer. That did not sit well with me, I thought that was a bit immature.
That is just "gay".
Thank you! ask and ye shall receive!
I thought the Ross (was it Ross?) hit on Colter was similar but even better, though they got a first down on the play. Someone should GIF that.
The more I watch this the more I appreciate the confusion caused by the way Mattison lined up our guys. I'm sure the UFR will be better than my take, but it looks like the guy who went after JMFR really should have gone after Demens. There is another blocker inside who releases to take on a linebacker, but has this whoa moment when he doesn't see anyone to block.
Funny. This play happened right in front of me but I couldn't see it. All I saw was the D-line players. They completely blocked Demens from my view and only after hearing the crowd erupt did I know we came up with the stop.
"we landed on the moon" is all I think when saw the Fitzgerald gif
"Now that's what you call a de-cleater"
I have another gif.
half way across the goal line before it comes out.
Penn State fans are livid about this and rightfully so but we're the ones who're really getting screwed. If the referees in the last two Nebraska games were halfway good at their jobs, there would be a real chance that we'd be playing Iowa next week for a chance to clinch a trip to the championship game.
heartsick, that one.
I personally cannot wait for the flood of Fitzgerald gifs that come out of that obnoxiousness. I am not a gif creator, but I imagine him on a trampoline or wearing a cheerleader outfit with pom poms, pigtails & skirt.
As for Demens, my friend & I watching on TV were both saying before the play started "Why are they only putting 3 on the line? Why are the rest playing so far back? Oh boy...." and then as the play ended "OHHHH!, That's why so Demens could tee him up. THAT WAS AWESOME!" I really need to start trusting Mattison more. He really has earned it at this point.
Although, it was a terrible day for the defense. All Northwestern does all game is pitch the ball or not pitch the ball, and it looked like we had no idea how to defend this simple thing until the last drive. This is the first time the D looked ill-prepared under Mattison.
I know the stats won't look that great but this is a really hard offens to prepare for and adjust to. I don't think it's a case of being ill prepared. Up tempo/option offenses are just difficult to prepare for. Look at what Texas A&M's up tempo did to Alabama today.
See Air Force. It seems the option is Mattison's achilles heel.
All Northwestern does all game is pitch the ball or not pitch the ball
Well, that and also be hyper-efficient at passing the ball. Their two QBs combined to go 14-21 for 183 yards and 3 TDs. Only one of their four TDs actually came on the ground.
up the middle early on. The D had to pretty much anticipate the whole smorgasbord.
There's a reason why nobody stopped Nebraska doing this for two decades, and why Navy and Air Force run effectivelymdespite having no talent: the option is hard to defend.
Don't forget that NU had a bye so they had plenty of time to work on tweaks to the option.
This tackle reminds me a lot of the Brandon Graham hit against MSU in 2010(?) at the goaline.
Edit: Apparently I cannot embed video.
but that defensive alignment seemed like a straight up dare from Mattison. It's almost like he was trying to force the offense into handing off to the dive back by giving them a look they couldn't pass up... then LOL Demens.
One of the great things about this tackle, aside from its technical soundness, is that Tyris Jones, in his very limited time in the game for Northwestern, had 2 carries for 2 yards. This was not the 2-yard carry.
OH YES DOT GIF
Is there a way to make this my desktop background? I just can't stop watching it!
I'll have one, please. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:8617394&startTime=01:40
Gibbons just looks like a nerd in the GIf...I can see him thinking 'What do I do now' alot...
I remember, during one of the (post-game?) pressers last year, that Hoke was asked what he likes most about the team, and he said "I like that they like each other". The random silliness between Roy and Gibbons couldn't be a better example of that, particularly one between a special teams player and one from the offense.
I am rock hard after watching this.
you are not required to share.
my god, perfect form in that situation.
Look at Roh getting upfield to force the give then hopping back the 2 yards to the LOS to remove the cutback. He defies physics with that move.
It's hypnotic. Can't stop watching.
No matter who had that ball, the qb, the RB on the dive, or the pitch man, it looded like we had that play defended and stopped
I saw this play once from the endzone camera. That would make a mighty fine gif. No skills or I would do it myself.
He keeps getting back up and trying to get that first down.
....but Demens...just keeps beasting the kid.
