I just saw this as well. Although he didn't mention anything about transgressions, it shocks me that Birkett is still allowed to write about Dorsey. He also had a couple of trollbait headlines today, and I get the feeling he is trying to ramp up his level of ridiculousness before the sanctions are announced.

Why did he get negged for this? I was about to say the same thing. All these articles coming out saying that we'll know more info soon are stupid.

We'll know for sure once he's done with school, just like everybody else that isn't 100% cleared yet. No one has any "insider info" on a kids grades/test scores, unless they're his teacher.

I'm not sure, but I think he said we should "off the kids who are on the fence", which is a really harsh punishment.

Maybe I'm a softie, but I think we should let them all live.

Not really news, but Rich Rod says he doesn't know what the weather will be like on Memorial day. Fortunately, May 31st is only a couple weeks away, and we will have a better feeling about what we could excpect once we get closer to the holiday.

Update (definition from dictionary.com)

Noun - an act or instance of updating.  not crazy about this definition since it uses a form of the word, but I think it is still clear if coupled with the verb.

Verb - to bring (a book, figures, or the like) up to date, as by adding new information or making corrections.

the key point is new information.  Birkett has proven that he can produce stories without it.  My 4-year-old son is also capable of this same feat.  He told me 3 times last night about his "huge poop" from earlier in the day.  I was far more intrigued by my son's story.  At least my son is using his butt for its god given purpose instead talking out of it.  Birkett could learn a lot from my boy.

The article suggests that its possible Dorsey could be denied admission for academic or off field issues.  Is there really any legitimacy to the chance that he could be denied admission even if his academics are in order?

Just because it's a sealed record doesn't mean it didn't happen, though.  That's my point.  Dorsey and his coach have both acknowledged that he's had problems and would like to get a fresh start.  So to say he hasn't had off-the-field issues is misleading or downright untruthful.

All charges against Ben Roethlisberger have been dropped in both sexual assault cases, but I think we'd all agree that he's had off-the-field problems.  So a lack of prosecution doesn't mean he's innocent.

if Dorsey isn't admitted because of his sealed record. I'm not saying those things didn't happen, but unless he has another bad encounter with the law, an instutution can't legally judge him on those sealed documents.

The Roethlisberger analogy is somewhat relevant, but a little unfair, I think. I'm not sure you can compare Mr. "Drink like a champion" who's been accused of sexual assault (recently) as a wealthy grown man to a 16-year-old kid who wasn't accused of even touching anyone.

I believe it is possible to clear NCAA regs, but not the admissions minimums for UM and be denied.

I think this was the case with Witty, he made it on NCAA terms, but UM did not like some irregularities in test scores, though don't quote me on that I don't have time to research and back it up.

anyone?

That's what I'm trying to figure out.  The article says Dorsey signed his junior college letter of intent, "in case he was not admitted for academic or off-field reasons".  Birkett later writes, "If he qualifies academically but is not admitted to Michigan, Dorsey could sign with another Division I school."

This is the first I had seen anything about Dorsey possibly being denied admission for a reason other than academics and was wondering what others think of this.

My guess would be that they wouldn't have offered him a scholarship if they believed he wouldn't be admitted for any reason other than academics.

I read it in Birkett's write up. But did Rich say that (he's not quoted as saying it)? Did Demar's people say that when they were explaining why he signed with the JUCO? Or did Birkett just throw that in to be a jerk (again)?

Unless Demar has had an off field issue since he signed his LOI (and if he did it would have been higly publciized by Birkett, Sharp, et al), then that is most likely a non-issue.

Stay focused on the academic side, and don't panic about the Birkett curve ball trollbait.

The administration already knows whatever they are going to know about "off-field" activities.

If that is something that would hold up his admission, U-M has an obligation to let him know so he can make decisions about his life. Anything else would be too Saban-like.

If he was advised of problems he had many other options, including schools with easier admission standards.

When asked how the season would go, Rodriguez said:  "We're taking a wait and see approach.  We'll know a lot more after the first game."

However, I am hoping that the he does make it...People said MRob wasn't going to get in and he is coming in June.  Let's hope the same for Demar!  Dorsey + Cullen C + MRob = no fly zone!

So what happens with Dorsey?  Does he go to a JUCO school for a year, get passing grades, and simply transfer to us in 2011 ?  Is this how it works?

he's not qualifying. For certain things, as little as a semester. For other things, he has to go until he "graduates", usually two years, though if you're really motivated, you can cram all those credits into a year if you go full time every semester.
