Awww man, after reading that story, I kinda wish he has the chance to fulfill his dream of playing for Michigan in the Big House. But deep down, I know that this will not be possible. Best luck to the guy in his future ventures, wherever they may lead.

Why it is not possible for him to transfer to Michigan? He got the determination and belief. I just hope Hoke can take a look and talk to the kid first instead of ignoring him, that would be a huge disappointment. Can't imagine what he will feel one day walk out the Tunnel of the Big House, touching that Banner, and Making plays for us. Wish him the best.

it was a horrible story, since it was the guy who was killed by police for bringing a gun into the Cal computer lab recently, but in the article it said he transfered into the Haas school of business at Cal from a community college.  so why couldnt dorsey get into michigan from GRCC?  Its not like any of us know his grades, he could have a 4.0.  also, i always hear about how credits dont transfer, but what does that really matter when it comes to admission for a football player?  if the kid has a legit shot at the NFL then maybe it's not that big of a deal  and if he doesn't graduate before his eligibility runs out he can come back later and finish up.  Ive never really understood why it was considered impossible.

Cal may not be the best example to use though: 35% of the students who graduate from Cal transfer in after having started elsewhere. This is part of the state of California's idea about how to provide what James Angell called "the uncommon education for the common man." While I'm not saying Michigan doesn't accept transfer students (I knew a few when I was there), transferring in to Michigan isn't necessarily the same thing as transferring in to Cal.

I do hope Dorsey can make it work though.

It's actually not extremely hard to transfer into Michigan, but students are limited in options after they do. You pretty much have to abandon any idea of an undergraduate business degree. The transfer students I know were funneled into relatively useless majors, and some of them were really smart guys(and not incredibly happy about it).

I transferred in after 2 years of JC..  Got an Mech Engineering degree, so not a useless major  - you just need to have a plan on which credits transfer and which don't.  I had to take lots of summer classes to get to that point....So you have to know what you need to do. You can't take a bunch of worthless classes and think you'll get credit for them at Michigan.

Best decison of my life :)

yeah, Cal accepts LOADS of transfers.  It's the way the UC system is set up: lots of people go to CC because CC costs like $2k/year for in-state students.  Get the easy 4.0, then transfer to get that prestigious degree for basically half price.

Id like to believe, but its only been less than 9 months and its hard to really say the person went from aloof to humbled so quickly.  Hopefully he has, but remember that goofy sham of an "academic program" that he went to and got all As in after not cutting it in HS... well coming from those conditions and that academic background, imo he would have to really be on solid ground before M would offer him a scholie...hopefully he is and this is not lip service.

BTW the article mentions that he has a 39 inch vertical jump.  There are videos on Youtube of Ronald Bellomy our future starting QB doing 51 inch box jumps.  Is that essentially the same measurement...so Bellomy has a 51 inch vertical?  if so that is incredible that he could sky like that....

1. it's Russell Bellomy

2. a vertical is measured by the start and end positions of the fingertips, not the feet. A 51 inch vertical would be if Bellomy could jump onto those boxes without bending his knees in midair.

oops too many vodkas tonight...yeah i know its very well Russell and not Ronald...it was just a simple typo and a probably a subconscious ode to a former Michigan player Ronald. ..though with a different spelling for the last name.

The article gives the impression that Demar Dorsey is single minded in his goal of getting to Michigan. Would he be a 2012 or 2013 recruit, if a 2013 recruit he would have plenty of time to make sure his grades are adequate, he is listed as a 2013 recruit for Rivals. Michigan accepts transfer credits from GRCC and if his grades are in order, I cant see a reason why Michigan would not accept him as a 2013 prospect.

It was a nice article and I would love to see him make it to UM, but I will certainly be pulling for him, regardless of where he winds up. Two things struck me: First, his coach describing how poor his fundamentals were. It sounds as if he would not have been the freshman savior we were hoping for when he signed, so I am not sure how much better he would have made last year's defense. Second was the gripe from his family that they never got a good explanation for why he was not admitted, and indicating that he had fulfilled all the requirements. He was not admitted to Louisville either! Did admission offices nationally conspire against this kid?!? Just acknnowledge that you had not done the academic work in HS but you are working hard now having learned that lesson. Comments like that make me wonder if there is still an underlying sense of entitlement.

Demar Dorsey's lack of admission (and I choose that phrase deliberately because despite what the newspaper and Dorsey may say, no admissions decision was given to Dorsey.  It never got to that point.  BUT I DIGRESS....) his lack of admission wasn't due to UM's Office of Admissions suddenly tightening up their policies because they didn't like Rodriguez or because he didn't go through the right steps in recruting him.  There were issues with Dorsey's application that would have existed no matter who was at the helm.

You're right. It was later established -- by Brandon, among others -- that RR didn't go through proper channels when signing Dorsey. Had he done so, it seems, the school would have said no right at the get-go. I hope Dorsey succeeds. But he shouldn't have been accepted at M at the time.
