Dejected kids in the U of M memes

Submitted by UESWolverine on

Anybody else feel for the U of M students that the TV cameras focused on after the game Saturday? They keep popping up in all the memes and T-shirts making fun of us. I especially feel bad for the kid in the glasses. I feel like that could have been me or any of my friends. Some of those kids seem to be getting an unfair amount of attention and I wish there was a good way to support them for taking the brunt of all the shots people are taking at us. Would starting a crowd funding campaign be a stupid idea? Just curious what some of you guys thought or if there was a better idea to support them. I would donate some cash to the kid with glasses. I feel bad that his image is everywhere and he's not even getting paid.

My advice is if you have some extra cash that you are looking to donate with, then donate it to under privileged youth. Not someone who is upset over a football game. That's just my opinion though.

Yeah - I already donate to a bunch of worthy causes - in fact, my wife just started a charity to help feed people who have nothing.

I just don't love the idea of people profiting off other people's likenesses like they are doing with these kids. I donate money to the school and wouldn't mind diverting some of that money to these kids. I would hate for somebody to steal my likeness to mock and make money. Maybe giving them money is a stupid idea to compensate them, but nobody else is offering up any other ideas. And yes, maybe I'm reading the situation wrong, and they are enjoying the exposure. Not sure. Just thought this was a good place to bring it up.

This week's South Park was about charity shaming like this. You could also be spending the time you're using to post a snarky "just my opinion" comment about how you would make a superior charity decision than some stranger on the internet by instead helping underprivileged children with that time, but you didn't. Also, apparently people on the internet like self-righteousness more than just being nice. 24 "yeah fuck that guy" upvotes and counting...

I actually know/live with him and its definitely been a ride, there was discussion about making a move with the t-shirt company, but I love the idea.

If I was a student and that happened, I wouldn't mind as long as I got the royalties I deserved for my likeness.  If people are selling shirts with his pic, he should definitely demand a share of the profits now.

The added bonus: Sparty trolls would be contributing to a Michigan student every time they bought a shirt.

Maybe glasses kid is enjoying his fifteen minutes of fame and enjoying it. I think I may be enjoying it if I was in his shoes, it would be funny. I'm guessing the crying guy is taking it worse. I don't think I've heard anyone cry like that about a football game. I have cried less for close loved ones than that. His reaction reminded me of Scott Tenorman's reaction on South Park when Cartman fed his parents to him. I almost cried after the game, my eyes were definitely moist. I've wanted to beat MSU bad the past few years and losing this one left a gaping hole in my heart. I take solace in the fact that we have Harbaugh and we will beat those ass holes more often than not in the coming years.

Since they are not players, bringing more attention to them may not be what they want. I definitely wouldn't spend money over as there are other good things you can do. I feel bad for the student who was crying. I am sure that kid would have the final laugh when we beat OSU. Only winning is going to make this better. Those memes and photos and what not would not go away. It is just like our site using some of the pictures of our rival fans.

I don't really care if they make fun of us. With one year of Harbaugh we went from apologizing to them to outplaying them for 59 minutes. Next year the MSU people will be leaving by the third quarter.

Late night post on a bye-week.....

You're killing me.  Unfortunately, I can't down-vote this.

Minnesota can't come quickly enough!

I am the student/fan known as 'glasses kid.' I've been reading mgoblog for about a year now, but I figured this would be as good of a time as any to make an account.

First, I want to shoot down any idea of giving me donations. Other than having to deal with such a tough loss, my life has not been any worse because of my fame. It has actually been pretty fun being a local celebrity. It's unfortunate that it happened in this manner, but please don't think I have gotten much negativity from this. I appreciate the consideration, but I do not need any funding because of my fame.

In regards to the Ohio shirts, as MGoBlayze said, I have started the process of seeing what I can gain from that. Thanks to those that responded to Rogue Rage's board post a few days ago with any legal tips and help. Hopefully I can profit off of how they have used my image, or at the very least prevent my image from becoming more popular among the Buckeye fans.

Once again, thanks for thinking of me and Go Blue!

Dear Glasses Kid,

I find it very impressive that you can make such a level-headed and rational post at 2:30am on the weekend.  I know when I was in college I would have been lying face down in the carpet at that point.  You no doubt have a bright future ahead of you.

Keep up the good work!

My suggestion was to support these people that were singled out if they needed it. My question was whether or not donating a $1 or $2 to a fund for these kids would be a 'stupid idea'. I go to a lot of away games and my wife always reminds me to not look dejected after a bad play in case the camera is being panned on us. I would absolutely be livid if I became a meme or worse, somebody was making money off my likeness without my permission. I haven't posted a lot and thought this forum was a good place to bring this up. I thought it was a good intentioned post and wasn't trying to offend anyone.

People are always going to hate us because they joined everyone else's bandwagons and jumped on hating us because they thought it was cool.. But now we're winning. Ohio fans probably helped provoke this somehow to get the fact off how much they cheat and hate that we do it fair and square

I actually personally know the girl. She's taking it pretty well in stride. The taller guy I keep seeing around campus and he kind of just shrugs it off whenever people recognize him so I kinda feel for him

It's all fun and games until next October. A lot has been said and done and the disrespect card can't be played at this point. The arrogance has shifted and after Dantonio disrespected Harbaugh and was caught on video shortly after giving it to fans he lost credibility and his right to cry. It was a big boy game this year and we had them beat, next year I seriously doubt it's even close.

You've been saying this for 3 years now (I know because I teased you about it in 2014 haha) but I finally agree with you in 2016.  But I thought this would be the year 2 the way the 2 teams went into the game and with the injuries and home field.  I did not count on the fact Dantonio sold his soul to the devil for the right to win over UM.

For the first time since 2011 we'll be the older team and Taysom hill and all... ;)

You are right. I am not sure if he purposefully ran towards the student section to taunt. I was in the next section. The players actually came running there first. Dantonio followed them. Still, he is a Douche. And everyone who said this is like a superbowl to them, it was true. They all acted like it was a superbowl.
